This is a step-by-step guide and meant for complete crypto newbies without access to an exchange, credit card, or other methods except for PayPal/Paysafe Cards.

Note: There are fees involved.

In order to buy BitShares, you need Bitcoin, but before we start, here's what you need first:

* Open an Account at https://blockchain.info/wallet - it's your Bitcoin Wallet
* Open an Account at https://www.virwox.com/ - there's the magic
* Open an Account at wallet.bitshares.org - your BitShares Wallet

Steps Overview

1. Deposit PayPal to Virwox
2. Exchange Money to Virwox' Currency - Dollar/SLL
3. Exchange SLL on Virwox to Bitcoin - BTC/SLL
4. Send Bitcoin to your Blockchain.info Wallet
5. Exchange Bitcoin for BitShares on metaexchange.info

1. Deposit PayPal to Virwox

* Login to your Virwox account and move to https://www.virwox.com/deposit.php

* Search for "PayPal Express Checkout" - deposit money.

2. Exchange Money to Virwox' Currency - Dollar/SLL

* Exchange SLL to BTC and Place Order!

4. Send Bitcoin to your Blockchain.info Wallet

* Go to https://www.virwox.com/withdraw.php - Withdraw to Bitcoin

We need our Bitcoin address now,

* Head over to https://blockchain.info/wallet/ and Login. If you don't have a wallet yet, click "Start A New Wallet" and register.

* Copy Your Bitcoin Address - for me it would be 1NQuMQgzLwUbp7rRfAXC1X27RwEjxzJq5C

* Go back to https://www.virwox.com/withdraw.php - enter the Amount of Bitcoin and Paste your Bitcoin address.

* Click "Request Withdrawal" - NOTE: 1st Withdrawal can take up to 48 hours!

Check your Blockchain.info Wallet once in a while - in the meantime let's create a BitShares Online Wallet:

* Go to https://wallet.bitshares.org/

* Create an Account - you only need a Passphrase, make it long! Make sure to write down your Brain Key!

* Click: "Create New Account"

IMPORTANT: After you entered your account name you MUST register this very account name with BitShares -

* Use faucet to register your account and follow the 1 step needed.

If everything went as planned you should see this

* Open https://metaexchange.info/ - select BTS/BTC (https://metaexchange.info/markets/BTS/BTC)

* Click the Green "Buy BTS" Field

Now it's time to enter our BitShares Name

* Click "Submit"

You should see "Your bitcoin deposit address" now

* Copy bitcoin deposit address and move to your blockchain.info Wallet tab "Send Money"

* Paste Bitcoin address in "To:" Field and set the amount of Bitcoin you want to exchange.

* Click "Send Payment"

That's it - if everything went as planned you should see a fresh BitShares deposit in your BitShares Wallet

I think this is essentially a promotion for Virwox. There are many ways to acquire bitcoin, you can buy them from tons of exchanges, you don't need to use this one.

Correct me if I'm wrong!

For the intermediate step of BTC->BTS, there are several options now.

* Shapeshift
* Metaexchange
* Blocktrades.us
* Make an account on an BTC38, bter, poloniex, etc and do trades yourself.
