It seems trivially simple to say

"We're working on Bitshares, which does for business what Bitcoin does for money - We're making tools that empower people to build profitable, decentralized global businesses and giving them away for free."

Um, we're missing an intro that states our business model is to build tools and give them away for free without any further explanation?  ??? :o

I know your text was just an example, and I see what you mean now  :D  Excluding the 'giving them away for free' part, an intro sentence/extended slogan isn't terrible.

Though I think as long as people are directed on the website (which they are) and elsewhere to the 'What is BitShares' video first then using a sentence to explain what our company does in every subsequent video (Beyond a good logo & slogan) may be slightly redundant and is not something I think I've seen a lot of other companies do much either, but it is an option.

I would say they could improve on the intro, by starting with an image that has the BitShares Logo and slogan instead of just the logo.  (I've also suggested in another thread using a slogan that makes it clearer BitShares gets you shares in a range of DAC's or alternatively placing some DAC/Industry icons on the image.)

(If there was budget - you could even put the above into some kind of animated logo, that could be used on the website too, perhaps with voice over for videos, animated logo examples - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fOdWFNcvxM )

But I thought the current intro was fine, and as I said, I thought the video in general was great.

Has a public television vibe to it which I like.  Good initiative making it happen.

Two critiques

1 - You are an invictus employee, right?  Your intro just seems odd to me.

Quote
This is brian and today i’m meeting with the bitshares development team, this takes me to blacksburg, a small town in the foothills of western virginia

Why say your name, or why act like you're an outsider?  I'm confused

2 - Nobody ever actually talks about the product beyond saying their broad project name.  The second quote from Nikolai was painful, I've transcribed it.

Quote
I think that there is a lot of innovation happening with our team that people don’t realize.  People are really excited about nxt or uh ethereum... but uh we have some pretty pretty cool technical achievements that um... once we have one or two blockchains out people will really start appreciating them.

This video felt like a little bit of "meet the team" and a lot of "we're so happy we're working on this project, and we're really getting close"

so if the target audience is the forums, I think you've nailed it.  For someone who does not know what bitshares is, this seems really out of context.

+1

Adam brings up some good points

Also is this an ongoing series type of thing? .... "and next time....bitshares summer of code"

I disagree, I found the intro fine, I also thought Nikolai's comment was probably one of, if not  the strongest one.

Yeah I think that was the intention. A 'meet the team' video, I want to hear that they're passionate and working, '15 hour days' and that there's some talented & intelligent people that are excited about the future and that progress is developing well.

This isn't a 'what is BitShares' or 'what is crypto-currency video', it's for an audience that already have a basic idea what they are.  I don't know what Brian's background/experience is, but it's clearly more mainstream and I think this video, while a bit cheesy in places strikes a nice balance, of appealing to a more DAC savvy audience, fairly new to the scene investors & is also the kind of thing VC's would like to see at this stage.  So in this specific instance, overall I would say great job!

I think the main criticism will be 'deliver something already...' but that is something that is out of his control.

The video isn't about me, it's about the developers.  A product video (bitsharesX) is coming next as well as a "summer of code" video.  B

Yeah, I realized the audio needs to be turned up (and music turned down). Working on this now and will edit the video... B

If you're doing a small re-edit, the part where Toast starts talking, in the current edit, looks like the guy in the shot before has started talking, it's a bit jarring, but no big deal.

Are we supposed to hear when people are talking? Cause all I hear is the music, and a faint inaudible whisper of people talking.

you should hear them usually talking

Thanks, you made me double-check the headphone cable and I realized a colleague had borrowed it during my vacation and plugged it back in incompletely. I was only getting one channel as a result, and it happened to be the one with the music and not the voices :)

Do not use this post as information for making any important decisions. The only agreements I ever make are informal and non-binding. Take the same precautions as when dealing with a compromised account, scammer, sockpuppet, etc.
