Guide: How to mine in cloud with Windows Azure. [windows server]
« on: November 16, 2013, 10:38:48 AM »

Hello good folk!

I just wanted to share this guide, if there is anything you feel need to be added to the below text feel free to PM me!

As SP4RK7 mentions in this thread : http://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=598.0

Azure is giving away 29 days of trial: http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/

Sign up there and enter your name, phone and credit info. (everything needed as stated in the form.)

NOTE: They will not charge you for the trial. When you use up your 29 days the trial ends and it's closed. Same goes for when your 200$ spending limit is used up.

After you have created an account log in through the site and press portal on the right hand side of the screen. (blue button.)

This will take you to your management section where you can create and start your virtual machines.

Press virtual machine in the right menu, and look at the bottom where there is a + and it says new.

Create now 3 machines. Use the xl and large types 2* 8 cores and 1* 4 cores for max profit and length on the trial.

After you have done this and pressed start on the machines, press connect. A file will now download. (It's the shortcut for the virtual machine.)

When it's downloaded log in with the username and password you entered when you created the virtual machine.

This will connect you remotely to the servers desktop.

When you are connected Press the key on the bar with the blue server and the grey toolbox.
The button on the bottom left aka the server manager.

When server manager is open press local server on the left side of the window.
Then properties will open up.
Now find where it says IE enchanted security configuration. It's on by default . Press where it say ON and turn it of in the pop up box then hit the refresh button on the right top side.

When this is done close the server manager window and hit the Windows key.

Open internet explorer and go to this forum/the pool section of the forum and download the miner from there and follow the instructions from the thread creator or the instructions inside the miner.bat file.

Hope this was helpful.

Sincerely

Andhar

Used your guide John D's wasn't working well for me for some reason - plus yours is much less complicated (I'm a fan of windows by far.)

Thank you for doing this - I'll mine till my trial is up and give you a % of the revenue :)

Once I have set up the three virtual machines, installed coyote and started mining to my address, will it continue mining if I close down the remote connections to them? In other words, do I have to manually start the mining on each virtual machine every time I restart my physical machine?

If your running windows on them just add the .batch file to startup. If your running linux I dont think the servers restart unless you do it yourself.

Window really sucks on VPS the windows updates restart your computer alot I had to reconfigure alot of them every day then I finally just turned them off.
If I helped you and want to show your appreciation donate any amount:

Thanks for the tip, I have now added the batch file to the startup section for each virtual session. If I try to close the session it does tell me that any programs running on the virtual machine will keep running until I log back on... So it remains to see if that is true or not :)

Anyone else keep getting angry phonecalls from microsoft regarding this?

m$ - "We see you're using our azure trial, what are you using it for?"
me - "General testing"
m$ - "Any specific program you're testing?"
me - "No, general tests"
m$ - "But what exactly are you using it for?"
me - "Well that's private company information and should you require this info then I am no longer interested in your services"
m$ - "Very well, carry on"

But he knew exactly what was up, so yes they do spy on you but they're not allowed to admit it.

Got the same phonecall :)

Told them me and my wife were testing a script running algorithmic tests.
He just responded with a..uuuuhhhh..are you happy with the service?

Told them i was happy with the service but the prices would make it hard for us to continue.

They were going to send me an e-mail next week, wonder what it will contain :)

i created 3rd trial account on Azure, after i run off credits on previous 1 and 2, is it possible that they charge me additional costs for multiaccounts?

I don't know to be honest.  But i would assume the TOS would say there is only 1 account per person, what actions they will take for breaking that is not known to me at least.

im not a lawyer, but such activity of searching and billing multiaccounts would cost much much more then any charges.. :)
