Updated BitSharesX, asking me to create an account?
« on: August 28, 2014, 11:52:08 PM »

Just updated BitSharesX and it's asking me to create an account instead of typing in my password. What happened to my account? Have I lost it?

You're lucky it's half time.  ;)

Try this:

2a. Browse to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\.backups\
2b. Copy & paste the 'default' into the following directory: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\
^ Note: replace UserName with your Windows user name; AppData is a hidden folder so you need to type it in manually or turn on the viewing of hidden files and folders ^
2c. Windows will ask if you are sure you want to replace the existing folder & files, select yes.
2d. Open the BitsharesX client and your wallet should be restored. You will likely need to re-scan the block chain using 'wallet_rescan_blockchain' to pick up any transactions you have made/received since the last time your wallet was automatically backed up.

If this works, make sure to back up your wallet using the other method just in case for future use: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=7768.0

Actually found your other post about automatic backups while searching around for answers. I'm on Linux but I found the /.backups folder in ./BitShares X/wallets/

Imported that wallet. It brought up my old account, but now it says I am unregistered and have no balance. Hopefully the wallet just needs to be synced and then everything will show up?

edit: rescanning the blockchain and hoping for the best. thanks for the help.

Yes a rescan should work to bring up your balance and transactions if it recognized your account.

Thanks for the info on Linux, I'll have to add that to my post.

No problem & Cheers  :D

The rescan seemed to work up to the point until the BitSharesX client crashed. This is what came up in the terminal after the crash:

Quote
QObject::startTimer: Timers can only be used with threads started with QThread
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Tried again and it just said:

Quote
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Any ideas? It seems my keys are not lost. One incoming transaction is missing from my account and it also still says it is unregistered.

Maybe this will work:

Dump your private key using wallet_dump_private_key <account name>

Copy down your private key

Move BitsharesX folder to BitsharesX.old (just in case u need something from there)

Recompile from git and import your private key with wallet_import_private_key <private key>

Then resync

Are you using the current version.. 0.4.9 ??
