DAC PLAY / Re: Tradable Software License As Asset?
« on: November 04, 2014, 03:44:10 pm »
The issue with this is that game publishers are against selling of used games.
There were huge debates over this.
In Europe it's legal to sell "used software" .. court ruling ..
no matter what the publishers "want" or not ..

Try this on steam.

An example of similar robohash to bytemaster's .
I have another one closer resembling BM's robot (and with lowercase first letter).

Can we update the forum rules to prevent people from taking the same name with a slightly different capitalization?  This is crazy that someone could impersonate me so easily.

Capitalisation isnt an issue. I can get visually exact name like yours if using homoglyphs. And still get identical robohash.
There could be implemented a function that calculates visual similarity of 2 strings though.

wow , you scared me   :P

The technique I used to get the same robo-hash for the forum account name will likely not work well in the bitsharesX client.
However exploiting similar techniques might produce identical robohashes and visibly similar account names.

General Discussion / Warning: Accounts similar to current delegates
« on: November 04, 2014, 11:42:29 am »
I've noticed someone just registered accounts on the blockchain that are very similar to current delegates.

For example:
Nov 4, 2014 10:18:50 AM   30426   delepuppy
Nov 4, 2014 10:17:00 AM   30425   emskibitdelegate
Nov 4, 2014 10:15:30 AM   30424   dacbts500
Nov 4, 2014 10:14:00 AM   30423   daccoolspeed
Nov 4, 2014 10:11:50 AM   30422   btsapp
Nov 4, 2014 10:02:00 AM   30421   dogep2p
Nov 4, 2014 10:01:30 AM   30420   ltcp2p
Nov 4, 2014 10:01:10 AM   30419   dacp2p

If you are going to vote, please double-check the names.
I've shown how robohashes are inefficient for protection (see the first reply).
Until a better system for user protection is implemented (see https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9109.0) everyone should be extra careful when sending money or voting.

We dont know the details of the system. It was extensively discussed here https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9452.0 .
Lets wait until more finalised proposal is formed.
Your concerns are valid but we need to have a bit more clear understanding of the new rules.

good thinking!   +5% +5% +5%
Instead of silence, BM & Stan should actively participate in this discussion!

I'm sure some of them view through the thread and they will correct me if I mislead you somewhere.

Can a holder effectively vote multiple times, by moving his stake back and forth between two (or more) wallets that he controls?
No. Once you move your stake all votes it had previously had are removed and the new slate is accounted for.

Q1: all 101.
Q2: Fully automated.
Q3: Yes

Next answers after dinner...

EDIT:
Q1: Yes
Q2: NA. Each transaction votes for a slate of delegates. The amount of votes depend on the total BTSX transferred.
Q3: Yes. However it is not exactly real-time. More like each 10 sec intervals. Transactions should be included in blocks first.
Q4: Total amount of votes for a delegate equals total amount of BTSX transferred via transactions that include that delegate into its slate. (slate being list of delegates)
Q5: There is no selling of BTSX. All BTSX were initially allocated to PTS/AGS owners. There are some "unclaimed" - meaning they belong to someone but that someone hasn't transferred it yet. You can see the amount of unclaimed BTSX at www.bitsharesblocks.com (also there is a lot of useful info there)
Q6: You vote when you move funds. You can vote with all your BTSX if you transfer it to yourself (and then put it into cold storage). If given amount of BTSX hasn't been moved it doesn't vote.
Q7: I have 100 BTSX and move them to myself and I vote for delegate slate A. Delegate slate A gets 100 votes. I pay 100 BTSX to you and I still use delegate slate A. Delegate slate A still has 100 votes. You transfer these 100 BTSX to yourself using delegate slate B. Delegate slate B gets 100 votes and delegate slate A gets -100 votes. End result => Delegate slate B has 100 votes.
Q8: Yes. The exact system used is called approval voting.
Q8a: All unspent outputs that voted when they were last moved.

EDIT2:
About first 3 questions: Q2: Even though delegate's block production is automated a delegate should setup a price feeds. That is also automated by few different configurable scripts though.

No TITAN for this. Infact you could still have TITAN but you need to be able to prove ownership. And the history of the bottle should be revealed to each new buyer. I doubt anyone would want to buy from an anonymous owner.

Unless the private key is is ingrained into the item somehow, i don't see how this prevents fraud. There would have to be some kind of unique signature that the object produces.

If you possess the item you might be able to fake it. It doesn't matter what you use to protect it. Some fake money, others fake paintings.
This only provides proof how that specific item was stored and distributed. A single person can fake a bottle and sell it... once.
However if you see someone that posses multitude of bottles and has good ratings then it will be more likely that he is honest.
The fact that only the person that consumes the bottle can rate will greatly improve rating system.
Once you rate you cannot sell again.

What about this?
The wine is consumed. Then the wine consumer has an incentive to sell his certificate to a counterfeiter who labels a cheap wine like the expensive one that has been consumed and sells this with the token he acquired.
You can still track who owned the item.
You can buy only from retailers with good reputation.
Anyone who consumes the item (another blockchain transaction) can rate all on the supply chain back to the manufacturer.
Very quickly counterfeiters will be exposed and anyone selling his wine.
You would want to buy a bottle that has been only in reputable distributors/owners. And if you happen to buy a fake you can consume it (using special transaction that allows you to rate) and downvote anyone on the chain. This will decrease the value of all their products.

The concept is explained in vinfolio's blog:
http://blog.vinfolio.com/2014/10/06/the-future-of-wine-provenance-is-bitcoin/
It is basically the same idea realised using bitcoin blockchain.
I think I remember a site mentioning a possible investor. But I was unable to find it so there might be no ongoing projects after all.

General Discussion / Re: BitShares Promo Video Request
« on: November 03, 2014, 04:50:03 pm »
I'd like to see an Apple-esque promo video capturing the essence of what BitShares is. The focus should be on what is unique about BitShares: company metaphor and market pegged assets. Starring Dan, Stan and Toast. I could really use something like this in my upcoming advertising campaign.

I'm envisioning it being something like this. Talk about company metaphor and market pegged assets.

You realise how expensive that video was, right?
Just by watching it you can imagine how many hours of development the video itself costs.
Similarly to this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shirth1OjRE .
These are one of the finest advertisement + informative videos ever made.
I doubt there are sufficient resources to accomplish something remotely resembling the quality of such video.
You'll have to lower the bar a bit.

PS: I'm not an apple fan but the videos in question are pretty well made.

Glad to see you didn't get offended by Testz, cass's work is indeed very nice :)

Maybe you could try your hand at a logo for Bitshares Music which was the topic of the thread he linked? We could definitely do with some more graphical designers around here.
I was also intrigued by previous comments that compared subjective properties.
@Ika - Good Luck!
