How do you get this invictus ID? Im still not clear on that and is the invictus ID required to get the forked bitshares when the are realised?

On the mining rig topic, Its not worth buying a dedicated mining rig. I have two intel haswell i5 computers. One is overclocked to 4.4ghz and it only manages max about 170 c/m. The slower one about 120 to 140 c/m. Iv had both them running virtually 24 hours a day for a week and not even made 3 pts yet.

I currently got 2 i5's blazing away virtually 24s a day on beeer pool but its slow going. Only made 2 and a half pts in a week, pretty dismal tbh.

Your ID can be mined and I think its 10 pts to add. How shares are mined is up for discussion at present.

Can someone explain the ID part? How do you receive the ID and is there a time limit to get your 10pts? Currently I have only managed to mine 2 and half pts.

I hear that its possible to mine pts with GPU's now? Could we not get one of those up and running for the pool? Would be good to get all 4 cores and the gpu blazing away...

If its all going to be Proof of Stake how will we get shares in the new DACs if they aren't mined?

yeah can you answer this one?

Still not a whole lot wiser tbh

General Discussion / Somebody explain Protoshares to me in laymans terms
« on: December 04, 2013, 12:36:12 pm »
Ok first off I am not a technophobe, I work as a php developer and as such have a fairly good understanding of computers, the internet and all things geeky. I get the general concept behind bitcoins and remember hearing about them when they first started, only wish i had paid more attention to them now. I realise that I really missed the boat on that big time and spent 2 years helping seti@home rather than mining bit coins (fool >:( ).  However, I know very little about economics and financial stuff so answer these questions as if you were talking to your average joe on the stree.

I started mining PTS as it was a new coin and it was supposed to be CPU only so I figured I would be able to get some before it got to difficult. But what I am not sure about is all this stuff with dividends, DAC's and Proof of stake?

So let me see if I am correct here:

For every pts I own I will get some form of new coin that derived from pts when they are released? If so how will this work? Will I need a new wallet, will I have some id? Is there a minimum amount of PTS I need to get this?

How do the dividends work? Will I get more pts for every transaction somebody else makes? is this based on the amount of pts I own?

What is a DAC  in layman’s terms?

What does proof of stake actually mean? and how will it change the mining game?

@recci:
protoshares is 1 year ahead of it's schedule... just saying  :)

Not sure what you mean? Also It turns out I was mining more than I realized. I missed a couple of payouts, turns out I have 0.6 of a PTS  :-\

Love how people come in here expecting easy money. Get a job if your that desperate for money, don't put your hopes into mining a digital currency.

Have a job mate! and don’t expect easy money. Just pointing out that this is probably not profitable for the average user to mine.

Love how people make over blown reactions to comments :P

This coin is incredibly hard to mine, I have been mining on an off for 4 or 5 days on 2 intel core i5's with 4 threads each and I still only have 0.04345 PTS. I thought is was meant to be mine-able for anybody, at this rate its not going to be profitable at all! Especially with the sky high cost of electricity in the uk....waste if time imo

I just used wine and it seems to work.

What is the difference between avx, sse4,  sph ?

I am running an intel core I5 on ubuntu with the experimental client, what is the best settings for me?

Also I assume when running the experimental client you dont need to put in -poolip=ptsmine.beeeeer.org -poolport=1337 or that?
