General Discussion / Re: Core dev respond to GUI criticism
« on: October 18, 2015, 04:21:40 am »
Valantine - thank you for your work. I was a bit critical at first, but the more i use this the more i am beginning to like it. The improvements you mentioned as well as the feed back you are getting in this thread will make this even better.

Muse/SoundDAC / BTS and MUSE
« on: October 18, 2015, 04:02:49 am »

Apologies for this basic question, but if i own BTS would i benefit from the growth of MUSE? It uses graphene. I just wonder if i need to own NOTES in order to gain value or whether BTS encompasses Bitshares AND MUSE.

Thanks

General Discussion / Re: The 2.0 launch - lessons learned

Good points on things learned.. UI is only a framework and rightly so.. the refer program is to bring in competition.. now the stage has been set.. cue the heros to appear with various wallet solutions, and more on/off ramps. For now we just need to break in this amazing network.

Exchanges and volume. We have to reach out to the exchanges in a professional and coordinated way.

But first we need to have a GUI that looks and feels like an exchange and not a BTS wallet with a mediocre exchange page attached to it.
So I guess I'd agree with Ander: we waited for 2.0 for so long and now we need to wait again, this time for 2.1 which will offer a proper GUI.
Ideally available in two incarnations: (1) a BTS wallet with an integrated exchange and (2) an exchange with an integrated BTS wallet.

A little frustrating, but i think thats true.

Your concerns have merit.  It goes both ways.  Either you cut costs or you bring something new to the table.  WIth Bitshares we can charge more right now because you offer greater financial services (dex exchange, hedging, hopefully bond markets).  The differences in fees have to be competitive.  A consumer is willing to pay more in fees because they gather more services from bitshares.  I don't think they will go to lesser transaction altcoins unless they offer the same quality in services.  This is the hypothesis at least.

So the referral is not the flagship feature,  but a additive one  that brings more value when bitshares already has value to offer to begin with.  Simply put, referral system cannot work alone as a stand alone feature, but needs the other value additive features of bitshares to bring out the best of the two.

I agree with your analysis. However, its still comes back to ease of use. The front end has to look and run professionally without a problem. Personally, i think we need to copy something like cryptsi as a layout with our features.

The UI is not ready yet, that's the main reason I guess.
But we will get there, it just a matter of time and having the resources to do it.
The most important thing is that we have now a very solid technological foundation for the GUI (web sockets + react.js), so it shouldn't take much time to make it similar to Poloniex or Yunbi.

Even if Cryptonomex doesn't do it, some other third-party company will take this opportunity having the financial incentive in the form of the referral program. 80% of the job has been done, this is the last 20% missing.

I agree with what you're saying, but after the trouble with the client in 1.0 we need to make sure it just works when launching 2.0. I think we should not have launched until it was done because the back end is amazing (i dont think they could have done a better job on that) but its looks like we cant get a decent front end finished in 1.0 or 2.0. I'm hoping this gets resolved quickly and moonstone have a decent looking alternative. Something that can compete with the professionalism of cryptsi for example.
Its a work in progress, but the launch implies its ready and clearly the GUI is not yet.
My 2 cents.

Firefox:
https://graphene.bitshares.org/ - unable to connect every time.
https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/explorer - works every time

If you want quicker adoption by exchanges, please consider adding authenticated HTTP access to your API

@bytemaster - is there a reason we dont do this?

Question: Can you change the brain key to be a phrase you want?

I have a question regarding how to backup to paper. I read that you can do this in 2.0.
The wiki doesnt return anything as yet.

Just wondering.

I agree, 21 seems like a good number to me. I just dont agree with being wasteful at this critical time.
It needs to just work, be intuitive and user friendly.

I agree, you should do this on bitshares 2.0.
Please share your thesis when you're done, i'm sure it will be an interesting read.
