Nice idea, sounds like it could work.

It was 3I who were going to be creating the vast majority of new DACs for PTS + AGS.  Now that 3I are going to be working on only BTS, the work for those future DACs is included in the PTS + AGS allocation.  There aren't tons of developers as far as I gather planning to release lots of DACs so it's almost entirely taken care of by airdropping to PTS + AGS as proposed.  PTS + AGS feel they are missing out on future DACs, when realistically, almost all of those future DACs were going to be made by 3I and now PTS + AGS have a stake in all their future work.  And just in case there are other developers with other DACs, they can snapshot BTS and include everyone.  It's not perfect as everyone knows but people talk as if they were expecting most new DACs to come from third parties when in reality PTS + AGS was another way to invest in 3I, and that's what they are getting.

Edit:  It appears there isn't a 'social consensus' anymore anyway on who 3rd party DACs (in the rare occasion they exist) they should snapshop in the future so it will probably just be up to the devs as it always was.

General Discussion / Re: The NEW Bitshares PTS - superDAC slayer!

I disagree.  BTS was never intended to be a store of value or global currency, its an investment.  The bitassets are the product, they are scarce because they track the price of real-world commodities.  Bitassets meets your requirements "(i) fairly distributed, (ii) scarce (non-inflationary), (iii) efficient (DPOS), and (iv) secure."  (you could argue they are inflationary but they're not really because users have to buy them so equivalent value flows into the system).

Worth translating this into Chinese and posting in the Chinese forum to help everyone see the bigger picture!  I'd tip 100BTSX to whomever does that.

Wow that is some vision!  And this is awesome sales copy (among other things), good stuff  +5%

These incentives combine to form a system where every new employee added to the company, DO NOT have diminishing marginal returns due to an increasing lack of information.

There is a limited amount of time stakeholders have to perform research on delegates as it will take a lot of time to read all the stuff they transparently reveal about their work and keeping up with the discussion among stakeholders about delegates could easily become a full time job for those with large enough stake to make it worth their time.

How efficiently this discussion + research takes place will be crucial.  Some kind of social platform will be needed for delegates to showcase their work and propose plans for fund spending.  This forum may become over run soon, we'll need a more advanced platform where individual comments can be voted up reddit style to help sort though the junk (maybe it should require a small stake to do an upvote/downvote).

Anyway I like this kind of thinking, it's good to have a long term vision for BTS.

Maybe in the mumble hangout tomorrow there can be a live chinese translator translating what is said?  Big Chinese whales could ask questions and have the translator translate them and have them answered etc.  It would slow the conversation down a bit, but worth it if it means everyone understands why the merge is happening.  Q n A with China needed.

@CossCrypto, interesting.  Care to draw a prediction of what will happen in the immediate term?

Someone in the chat on bter a few days ago said they saw an order 750BTC appear and immediately disappear.

Music DAC is staying independent.

He said the merger should be complete by the end of November.

End of November, Why and how?

I don't know anything more, I guess that's the time needed for the software development.  There's a dev voice hangout on mumble tomorrow, maybe more information will become available then:

General Discussion / Re: BM:i tell you why you are the bigest bug of bts
« on: October 23, 2014, 02:36:03 pm »
If we look at the numbers:

PTS/AGS got 20% of BTSX = 400,000,000 BTSX
BTSX gets 80% of BTS = 2,000,000,000 BTS
PTS/AGS get 16% of the 500M BTS = 80,000,000 BTS

So in total PTS/AGS gets 19.2% of BTS. So the social contract is only short 0.8%.

Now any DAC that snapshots BTS to bootstrap their DAC will effectively be honoring AGS/PTS.

So PLEASE tell the Chinese community that even if they are furious about this situation that they DO NOT destroy any of their accounts that have a balance.

Yes but BTS will only be snapshotted 20% I presume so they will get 20% of 20% which is 4%.

But I do understand the people who object.
We have to acknowledge the wound in order to heal.

Agreed. After reading your post about how many of the Chinese only held PTS/AGS I can understand their pain. However keep in mind the following:

While the company formally known as I3 has honored the social contract twice (once for BTSX and again for BTS) they most likely won't in the future as they will all be working for the BitShares DAC and not releasing new DACs.

There is no reason other third party DAC creators (like Music) can't honor the social contract of PTS though likely they won't need to because...

If you hold PTS/AGS you are in the genesis block of BTS. Any DAC that forks BitShares Toolkit is also going to have those PTS/AGS in their genesis block if they decide to do a BTS snapshot (and I don't see why they wouldn't). Am I misunderstanding that?

To AGSer,it's not a really big deal, just the percentage seems to be smaller than 10% social consensus.
But to PTSer , it's not only about the number,it's about the liquidity ......

As to third party DAC,if AGS fund is not going to fund third party, then I don't think any third party DAC would honer  AGS and PTS.

Like I said , people are mad for a reason,it would be foolish to think they are foolish.
Unless you can convince them it would be a better deal , which I don't think anyone here can say they're sure the stake they got in BTS is going to outweigh the percentage and liquidity they've lost.

It's totally reasonable for people believed in something they already have.
Just like some of the Bitcoiners,if you want to sell them BTSX in exchange for BTC,they would laught at you..

Do they understand that without the merger they would have may have ended up with a stake in a bunch of under-funded DACs competing for a limited pool of developers and with competing bitassets?  That's not a recipe for success, like 1000 bottle rockets will never have enough thrust to get into orbit, but if you can combine their thrust it can do it.  Once the a new all time high is reached I'm sure any doubters will be happy to become fans again.  It seems they don't understand this move rescues them.  Now we have a well funded DAC with a strong strong leadership team and little competition, and the foundation for a true decentralisation with stakeholder voting on dev funding.  They are getting more control than before.  Do they understand they will be able to vote with their stake on dev + marketing funds?  Seems like these arguments aren't getting across to them.  I could be mistaken as I can only read the google translation of the Chinese talk, but there seems to be hardly anyone arguing the positive side of this.  Whereas here there are tons of converts.

Edit:  I know it's not a black and white issue and maybe there is a higher proportion of PTS+AGS investors there than here, still, it would help to have a full time translator to translate all the discussions.

The delegate campaigning is going to get more and more fierce and discussion among stakeholders on who to vote for will keep increasing.  There will need to be some kind of social platform other than this forum to do all this.  This whole thing is so exciting, I mean its a first of its kind!  Decentralised self-governance is my go to explanation for how to save the world (besides being really really nice to each other :) ) and bitshares is looking to become a vital experiment in bringing about that vision!

My thoughts go to what social platform to use, liquid democracy from the german pirate party?  DemocacyOS?  There are lots of them out there.  Or maybe the VOTE features will cover it.  That may be a discussion for another day, it's pretty intense around here.

I just want to point out that enthusiasm can be real and not purely money-motivated!  :D
