General Discussion / Re: Bitshares Music Presale begins in 2 hours
« on: October 06, 2014, 12:55:40 pm »
Edit 1: Right now around 17.4BTC donated today, not that much IMO.

I'd like to disagree, that's more than AGS got on many days (in BTC, although that has tanked) and the day is only halfway through.

Yes, but AGS ran for 200 days (instead of 60). My judgment was based on that fact. Combine that to the fact BTS tanked, I don't think it's so bad.

Tell me if I´m wrong...

When buying notes on the presale... you don´t know at what price you´re doing your purchase... until the end of the day...

is this right?

If is right... in my case... I don´t want to get into something with so low information about price...

Well, you can look on:

How do we know how many BTC has been used so far to buy Notes per day? is there a website like AGSexplorer ?

Yeah, it's called blockchain.info :)

https://blockchain.info/address/37X8DHpfiimB7PU5y35rfBcg5Vxj2R6umL

So basically you wait and see what are the donations during the day, and on a day you judge the donation are not too high, you jump in. Not very risky, except maybe if a big donor comes in and put 50 something BTC a few minutes before the end of the day, and smashes all you reward expectation.

But hey, that's auction style.

Edit 1: Right now around 17.4BTC donated today, not that much IMO.

So let say PeerTracks is closed down. The Notes will tank buy-backs will stop. But I could open a PeerTracks 2.0 and in the Bitshare Music blockchain I have all the information need it to continue normal operation, because I have all the information on artistcoin holder, Notes Holder and bitUSD holders. In fact if PeerTracks goes down people will still have ther bitUSD and they could still trade artistcoin, the only think that will stop will be the buy back mechanism witch will resume as soon as PeerTrack 2.0 is up and running.

Thats all true, but if you have to rely on a resurrected PeerTracks after a government takedown, then it seems like the DAC has a flawed business model and that PeerTracks would have been better off avoiding regulatory hurdles by not using a blockchain.

But then you wouldn't have an army of artistcoin holders to promote their favourite artist, and being incentivized to do so through the buy back mechanism. That's the other layer added on top of the song selling that require a blockchain. Yes, if Cob wanted to create a second iTunes with the same functionalities, then a blockchain is not required and certainly not wanted.

Thats what I suspected. In that case how does a blockchain make any difference to the PeerTracks website? They could just accept fiat and their business model is exactly the same. That way they would even save on transaction burn fees.

What I understood from Cob's description is that the blockchain provides a decentralized way to validate that a user actually bought the song. PeerTracks will scan the blockchain and confirm the sale, allowing the user to download the song/album from PeerTracks directly.

So if PeerTrack's site gets taken down for any reason, any other site can come up and do the same thing, and all the users would still have access to what they previously bought, assuming the new site would have the same songs/albums available for download.

Edit 1: And assuming the Bitshares Music DAC is still up and running

Wow, almost 2.3M$ worth of Nubits as per CMC. A volume of 1550BTC traded in the last 24 hours...

That's a large community of bag holders there.

Well, good for those who will cash out first.

General Discussion / Re: Super Delegates - The Future of DACs
« on: October 05, 2014, 12:13:31 am »
The CFO Super Delegate, can try finding funding using:

-Outside financing (aka loan of some kind) - success of this is highly unlikely...

-'Issue' DAC Bond - hopefully someone will figure a way how to do it technically.

- Finance the DAC by issuing new shares... aka the d.../i.../d...

The first two would require BitsharesX to pay back either the financial institution providing the loan (+ interest), or the capital to the bond holder (also + interest). In both cases, if tx fees aren't increased to cover those expenses as Oldman proposes, the third one becomes inevitable.

So basically the tx fees would be adjusted to increase revenue, instead of using dilution to get funds for particular needs in the future?

General Discussion / Re: How to protect my BTSX investment?
« on: October 04, 2014, 10:13:52 pm »
Holding would be a good choice IMO

As I'm writing this, BTSX is the only "currency" in the top 10 on CMC that has is market cap fall less than 2% in USD value compared to all the other coins that followed the Bitcoin it its fall, except for PTS of course.

Edit 1: Except Ripple also, but in my mind it's not the same...

Bitshares rocks!

General Discussion / Re: Is it time to close the curtains?
« on: October 04, 2014, 12:15:55 pm »
I just have one concern regarding having the forum public to whoever wants to access.

Several groundbreaking ideas are brought up by brilliant forum members, ideas which are then at some point added to the "to do list" of the dev team. They do a terrific job, but they are humans and there's only 168 hours in one week. What I have in mind as Bitshares X (or any other DAC for that matter) being "open source" is basically developping the software, releasing it to the world and then let the others know about all the innovation contained in that release. But you still get the first mover advantage, because while the comptetition is trying to figure out the implications of what was released, the devs are already on to something else.

Having this forum open, several of the best ideas can be "copied" or modified and integrated on another platform even before the dev team is able to integrate them in the software. Then you lose your first mover advantage for that specific idea.

On the other hand though, it's all about which dev team is the most innovative and fastest to implement new ideas, and in that matter I really believe Bitshares has a solid lead over the competition.

Anyway, it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider having a "closed" section where the most innovative ideas could be discussed and debated without the competition spying on those ideas.

General Discussion / The reason behind low BTSX trading volume?
« on: October 03, 2014, 11:54:21 am »
I was just wondering if there was a plausible explanation for the suddenly very low trading volumes for BTSX? From the data available on CMC, there's a volume of about 180BTC across all exchanges...

It's very low compared to what it was in the last few weeks...

At least the price is fairly stable, so it doesn't mean people are losing faith in BTSX (how could they be anyway, it's awesome!)

General Discussion / Re: An open letter to Tonyk

I maybe late on this one but tonyk was the MAIN man why cob reconsidered his stand on allocations of shares in Bitshares Music which was the 10% for each AGS/PTS holders. He has a firm grasp of what he is putting on the table.
I wish but I highly doubt that - Dan, Stan, Nikolai (Sorry if I missing someone) are the one that did the true work.

Yes, but you did voice the general concern regarding distribution more *convincingly* then the average user. That at least had some influence on the discussion with the I3 team. Keep it up!

General Discussion / Re: Sports Betting DAC based on BitsharesX
« on: October 02, 2014, 11:00:52 pm »
So basically it would be a sport pool (whichever sport) where you put *dynamic* bets -meaning you can change your "bets" along the way by buying or selling a team asset, and the value of that bet change depending on the valuation of each team, or what the people think the odds are-

Wow, that's interesting!!

You could hold and hope your team win, or trade actively for each game along the way...

But what happens with the assets of each team when the season is done? Would something like the PTS dump after a snapshot would happen, so holding too long on a winning team wouldn't be that good since everybody gets out when the season is done?

General Discussion / Re: BitNu - Funding BTSX without Inflation...
« on: October 02, 2014, 05:24:53 pm »
I think this is a bad idea...
We should try to stay as far away from the word "Ponzi" as possible. I think this could easily be spun in a way to make it seem like bitshares is the ponzi scheme or it supports ponzi schemes or something like that.

Doing this will give detractors all the ammunition they need to spin this against Bitshares. In the public perception, even if it isn't true, it doesn't matter. What matters is what "appears" to be true and what they heard about it. And it's enough to cost serious credibility points to the Bitshares ecosystem.

I find his posts refreshing. Maybe he is a bit too aggressive, but this forum is full of people trying to be extra polite and/or are cowards so that balances it out.

I agree, some people are really annoying and spaming this forum, and Tonyk definitely brings something to the table in those cases. But new comers need to be dealt with respect and kindness.

What we need is an army of knowledgeable, up-to-date, patient, kind and open-minded people that would be on this forum around the clock (easier said than done) that could answer all the questions of the new comers. I know there's a wiki and other posts that probably answer all their potential questions, but sometimes people have very specific questions for which the answers have already been answered, but those answers are buried deep in the forum/wiki, and sometimes would require several hours of reading to get to it. Not very practical and new-user friendly.

And having the feeling of being welcomed is what is called in marketing "user experience". They will be back if they feel they have been answered properly and respected at the same time.
