I doubt BitShares ME, BitShares Play and BitShares Music is factored into the PTS price. Even the double announcement caused only a minor bump on the charts.

I agree with you.

There's a theory with stocks that you shouldn't bother trying to time the market because all the available information is already factored into the price. This may even be the case already with Bitcoin, but I've come to realize that this isn't the case with alts - there is too much going on, the landscape is too complex and there are too few people applying their knowledge for this to be true.  If you have some real understanding of what's going on, or what news is good or bad for a coin, even something as basic as the dates for a PTS distribution, the market price usually doesn't reflect it with any kind of speed.

That sounds right. Speculation seems to be a greater force in price determination than a relevant valuation with all available information factored.

Well I guess those who care about how the ecosystem works will see an opportunity to grab cheap PTS...

But there's something else I think might weigh in favor of low PTS prices... Since BTSX was awarded to only those who had PTS on Feb. 28 (and Keyhotee founders), all those who missed the train might think it's a better investment to put their money directly in a DAC that is already out there rather than invest in PTS and have shares of potential DACs in the future.

You have to be a believer to invest in something that will give you shares of future DACs that "might" perform in the future.

i seriously doubt PTS should be at this low price ...

Yeah, I hear you, it's very low as we speak, and it seems a lot of people sold at low price (0.0080-0.0085) just before DNS/Vote snapshot. The volumes were fairly high... Don't quite understand why so many people sold just before a snapshot for a price that low. Could miners be responsible for dumping just before snapshot? Or is it that faith in those DACs isn't high enough so the supply met the demand for PST pre-snapshot?

Just thinking out loud here...

BTSX made a very good start on the markets (yes, the service/product offering is very nice and will be worth every penny of its market cap, even though there's a lot of speculation). LTS volumes seems to be increasing a lot in the last 24h, even though the distribution to PTS/AGS hasn't matured yet, so it's probably due to the artificial scarcity and we'll probably see an increase in volumes and a price drop upon the maturation of several big players' stacks.

I don't know if there's a link between the impressive trading volumes of BTSX and the increase in volume for LTS...

I do have a feeling though that BTSX gives some serious credibility to every future DAC that will be released from the Bitshares community. I think several investors who missed the boat for the initial increase in value of BTSX will rush to buy shares of DNS as soon as it hits the market.

I might be wrong, but I'm very bullish regarding the future market cap of DNS, as well as the future increase in BTSX market cap as new features will be released. And even though we haven't heard about music DAC progress in a while, I'm pretty sure it will also be a success right upon release...

Everybody, any thoughts about this?

LottoShares / Problem with client upgrade
« on: August 22, 2014, 12:42:49 am »
I'll try to explain my problem here, not sure if it's exactly the right place to do it, but that would be a start.

I saw there was a new client version for LTS, I guess because of the "hard fork"... anyway, not sure I did it the right way, most probably someone will be able to help me.

I uninstalled the older client (I had redeemed my LTS for my PTS/AGS already, but I guess since I didn't erase manually the wallet, it might still be somewhere) and installed the new version. I thought about it after, I know now I should have made a backup of my wallet file first.

Now when I try to start the client, I have the message "Incorrect or no genesis block found. Wrong datadir for network?" message appearing, and I can't seem to find my wallet either. I might appear to be incredibly newb or illiterate of how all this work, but I can live with that.

Is there a solution, or have I just easily got rid of my LTS without having the pleasure of playing them?

Thanks for the help!

In order to be taken seriously by those outside the community, I sure wouldn't bet on a meme to represents the namespace DAC...

What does holding or buying the tokens entitle me to?

How do I redeem the services offered with the tokens sold/distributed?

Example:
I donated enough AGS to receive 10,000 Vote tokens. I want to hold an election at a high school for class president. How many tokens do I trade in to use the service? Who organizes the structur for the election?

You set up the terms for the election and the fee could be just a basic transaction fee.

If you want to limit voters to high-school students then you would have to certify valid students IDs yourself.

I thought I had it figured out, but by reading this it shows me it might not be as clear as I thought... So basically, I receive vote tokens for my PTS/AGS holdings and then trade those vote tokens to people that want to set up an election/poll (As I won't be setting up anything like that personally). So if an organization wants let's say 15 000 votes for an election, they buy those votes at the market price on an exchange? Then they set up the terms etc.?

I still don't see why CountryXYZ would need to buy BTSVote tokens to use the system?

In terms of validation, you would need an entire county's eligible voters validated in the system before it becomes worth something to that particular country. You can interchange country for city, county, state etc. It seems like unreasonable expectations.

My understanding is that it would be somehow preferable for the devs to start this DAC as a small scale experiment within a willing organization (that would pay for the service by buying tokens) and learn from there, improve the flaws and find solutions for the scalability issues. I see this DAC as a potentially very powerful tool, but the project is still in its infancy. I'm not a developper, but imo it doesn't have to have a huge amount of ressources put in to have a working DAC (contrary to, for example, BTS-X), so it can grow organically from each new project that emerge from the initial DAC (which will ultimately add value to the shares as the DAC gets new clients).

I might be wrong, but that would be my approach with a new and revolutionnary project that almost no one knows about and is a complete paradigm shift compared to what's in place right now.

The nice thing about this DAC is that it is scalable and it doesn't need a lot of big players to be sustainable. Governments will surely avoid this DAC in the long run as it is not regulated by them and not created by their unefficient bunch of civil servants. But private organizations and NGOs will definitely see the benefits of having a simple and efficient DAC to run their voting process. They just need to know about it and how easy it is to use.

I think the big thing here is the DAC will have to provide an easily understandable user interface and a comprehensive "user's manual", so that any non-developper guy can set it up and get it running for their organization.

The big paradigm shift won't be for non-technical people to understand the basic principle of "one verified profile, one vote", but rather to understand that it cannot be tampered with because of the blockchain technology.

I guess the biggest issue will be there... Making sure people understand it's as safe as any other voting method (and probably much safer), while much easier to deploy and use. Marketing will be the key, as with all the other DACs that imposes a paradigm shift.

 +5%

Good distribution, it takes care of the community supporting the DAC as well as those developping and keeping it running afterward.

Good job Toast!  +5%

Woot Woot! Can't wait to see the final results and the action on the PTS price! Not that I'm going to sell, I sure want my DNS shares!

Good job Toast!

The price LTS trades for is impressing...

As soon as the shares of several players mature, a whole bunch will it the market and the price will drop. But hopefully at that point a lot of people are going to play those shares so that the number in circulation drops... I'll have to decide if I try to get lucky and win some by playing some or if I'll simply hold to it and hope there's a lot of gamblers holding LTS!

Anyway, my shares mature in only 6 months in average, a lot can happen until then!

Just throwing ideas around, if it can inspire great ideas to others!

- Blast it
- Bump it up (in reference to the idea of pushing the song up the charts by buying shares and promoting it)
- Crank it
- Boost it

BitShares PTS / Re: Just bought a load of PTS
« on: April 25, 2014, 06:41:15 pm »
I'm just starting to wrap my head around the concept of PTS and decided it's a great opportunity to invest in.

I do understand the idea that the PTS value just before a snapshot increases as the anticipated value of the new DAC is included in the price, just before 10% of the new DAC shares are given to the PTS holders. So what I'm wondering is what happens with the new shares after the snapshot? Do we need another wallet than a standard PTS wallet? Is the wallet compatible with all the various shares? Will these new shares be convertible in some way in more PTS? If so, is there a mechanism in place as we speak? Will the future dividends from every new DAC shares be given in share value (share buy back with destruction of the share, which then rise the price of each share) or in another crypto-currency/equity?

An answer to all these questions will help a lot my understanding of "the gift that keeps on giving".

Thanks
