Technical Support / Re: Where does the interest come from?
« on: December 07, 2014, 07:51:28 pm »
It comes from shorts who borrowed the BitAsset into existence and it comes from transaction fees on that asset.

I still find this explanation of interest confusing, and I doubt its helpful for beginners.

I prefer this simpler explanation: shorts are super bullish on BTS, so they are willing to pay interest to whoever takes the opposite side of their trade, which bribes/incentives them not to dump their shares.

Thank you for replying.

So, primarily its from Shorts and some transaction fees. How high are these fees associated with Bitshares? Fractions i would assume.

Technical Support / Where does the interest come from?
« on: December 07, 2014, 06:35:06 pm »
I'm trying to explain BitShares to a friend and i need to clarify something.

I think interest earned from holding BitGold or BitUSD comes from other peoples transaction fees because i'm providing liquidity but i'm not sure. Please can someone clarify where the interest comes from if i buy BitUSD and hold it for a few years.

Appreciate peoples help.

Thanks
M

General Discussion / These Things Could Mainstream
« on: December 07, 2014, 02:04:02 am »

I just read the following article on bitcoinonomics. Now dont these sound like some of our DACS
Exactly. Mainstream baby :)

These Things Could Mainstream Bitcoin

Stock trading, gambling, pornography – these are just a few of the things that could contribute to the so-called “rise and rise” of Bitcoin.

Many of us ask, “What is going to make Bitcoin mainstream?”  One would think it was reasonable to examine these areas and ponder how Bitcoin could improve them.

Stock Trading

Online stock trading is the norm for investors and traders over the past decade.  This is a big improvement over the old ways of doing things, which entailed calling a stockbroker and placing an order on the telephone.

There are many companies, like TD Ameritrade, Etrade, Scottrade, Fidelity and others offering such services. In a study July 2013, Brian Bloch found that, just like online gambling, online stock trading gives the participant an addictive rush.

Bitcoin could streamline the experience of buying and selling stocks online namely due to the ease of obtaining and sending bitcoins.

What’s more, there are already plenty of ways to play public markets on the internet.

Gambling

Between 2009-2010 in the UK, 4% of adults had bet online, and from April 2010 to March 2011, online gambling yielded £660.74 million. The global online gambling industry represents one of the largest and quickest growing markets in the world, with a current net worth of $30 billion.

Betting was the highest grossing activity in global interactive gambling last year. Some dominant games in online gambling are wagering, casino and poker. One of the main driving factors of gambling industry growth is internet penetration.

In 2012, European online gambling operators saw an almost 45% increase in their total online gambling yield.  Approximately 51% of the global population gambles in some way every year.

Unsurprisingly, online gambling is also one of the most addictive activities online. Because online gambling has become so popular, the youth of today are more apt at those finding corners of the internet in which one can gamble on almost anything.

Gambling has already adopted Bitcoin. Here is a list of the most popular, Bitcoin-accepting gambling sites.

Gaming

Video game addiction is a know addiction and even causes death. Its severity has grown in the 2000s, especially with the help of massive multiplayer online role playing games like World Of Warcraft, which is known for its “WoW Gold,” a virtual token for use within the game. One clinical psychologist claims 40 percent of World of Warcraft players are addicted.

One could reasonably assume that, for many of these games, instead of using fake digital tokens with little real-world value, the use of Bitcoin would raise the stakes, attracting more players to online gaming.

Bitcoin Mainstreamed

The abovementioned sectors are ripe for Bitcoin penetration and could go a long way towards increasing velocity of Bitcoin on the internet. Importantly, many of these sectors have been first movers into the Bitcoin world, but it is likely we have not seen the final exodus away from credit/debit to Bitcoin in many online activities.

General Discussion / Re: BitGOLD & BitSILVER and other BitCommodities

If the Fed does this, it's unlikely to be in 2015. As long as energy prices are this low, the economy is looking pretty strong, which is why the Fed actually pulled back a bit. Gold is a great place to be as inflation kicks in, however, which should be the next stage.

Agree. But you can't increase the amount of USD in circulation by a factor of 4 and not have inflation. They're trying to hold the balloon underwater, but its gonna come up eventually. In the old days, inflation by definition was an increase in the money supply.

I would love to invest in bitgold and bitsilver.

After the 2008 financial crisis, both these commodities sky rocketed over 2 years.

It's likely it will happen again, when the us federal reserve does quantitative easing #4, which many predict in 2015.

I agree.
I would also hold so BTS  .01 to $1 is an awfully big move.

I would love a guide as well. Preferably a video tutorial.

When the usd dollar collapses, the price of gold will inverse.
Obviously holding bitgold is better than holding physical gold for security from theft reasons.

A video tutorial would be excellent!

Totally agree.

A short video explanation for newbies would be helpful. Maybe a series on to include each bitasset.
Also, perhaps we should have a series of ? that when you hover the mouse over pops up a 1 sentence explanation of what you're about to click?

People are lazy, so the easier the better.

Thanks

General Discussion / Re: Proposal: nullstreet.p2p
« on: December 07, 2014, 12:24:02 am »
I intend to register nullstreet.p2p and set the .com as a mirror. I'll use multi-sig to spread the .p2p private key amongst the founders of Bitshares. This is the same technique used to secure nuclear launch codes. Once Invictus is disbanded, I believe this model is necessary for Bitshares to operate on a similar level of efficiency as a centralized company while still remaining decentralized.

Great idea Method-X. Anything we can do to help?

General Discussion / Re: Proposal Voting for User Issued Assets
« on: December 06, 2014, 03:03:51 am »
... allow every UIA creator to generate proposals that can be voted on by the UIA holders.    This process leverages the same infrastructure as BTS uses to vote for delegates.   Every balance of a UIA can vote for up to 110 proposals by specifying a "slate" in the same way they specify a delegate slate.    Instead of voting for delegate it will now vote for proposals.

Voting for asset proposal to replace corporate shares seems like a great leap forward to me. I love this new feature.
Nice one guys  +5%

Good work trying to get the word out there; keep going.  +5%

I keep tweeting Max Keiser to ask when they will have Daniel on his show or start tweeting about BitShares. No responses yet but i'm making him my new hobby ;)

Its impossible man. I have contacted him like 20 times throughout the past via twitter.  He is not interested for some reason.

I'm starting to notice that. He's pushing his StartJoin, Maxcoin and that banktothefuture stuff.
- Come on Max, don't you recognize the real genuine breakthroughs being made here?

General Discussion / Re: Lamassu ATM
« on: December 06, 2014, 02:25:48 am »
"Thanks for reaching out.

We'd be happy to have an integration for Bitshares on our system. We do not currently have the resources to devote to this project, but our software is all open source and should be easily modified to your protocol.

Here's the link to our repository: https://github.com/lamassu

Would be happy to point you in the right direction and look forward to having a module for Bitshares. "

Anyone want to grab this project? Maybe a development delegate for ATMs and similar services?

Great new. Thank you hpenvy

Urg. Sorry about that.  I normally just set them up, record and edit them. Ill open the access to it :P

What do you mean tony?  Are you having a psychotic break?

THANK YOU FUZZY.
Appreciate your work

Man, i wish i had 5 million BTS

Same!  I sure as heck would not dump them for .106 CNY. ;)
If I had 5 million BTS, I'd sell a million if we get to about $1-2, and not sell more until $10.

Depends what if you had 100M BTS?  Would you sell 5M?   What if you had ~$0 USD and 100M BTS?

You see it is very hard to tell what people are thinking and it is all relative to how much someone has vs how much they need and the balance of the rest of their portfolio.

If i had 100M BTS i would likely be sat on the beach with my new friends soon - "Pass me another drink, Daniel"  ;)

General Discussion / Re: Why BTS is falling like this?
« on: December 05, 2014, 06:52:46 pm »
More onramps are in the works, both the official marketing team and the community marketing team are working on these, both to buy BTS as well as directly into bitassets.  Its going to take some time though.

Great. We cant have everything at once, so as long as its do'able and people are moving the ball forward .. thats good news.

"We need to get those shares into strong hands who want to hold for the long haul.  This has been occurring to some extent, but clearly its not finished yet, since here we are, the dumping continues."

... for me, once we have the debit card functionality i would like to start banking with BitUSD and start holding more and more BTS. Its ease of use that makes a difference. We're getting there though.

Buying bitshares takes way way to long and it involves coverting fiat to bitcoin then bitcoin to bitshares.  Until you can buy bitshares straight with fiat...

Just wondering ... Has bytemaster said anything about being able to convert fiat to bts?

Thanks
Mike
