General Discussion / Btshares Beer & International "Caps" Tournament
« on: April 24, 2015, 10:29:35 am »
This might be completely crazy but the young are the future so here goes....

How about we brew Bitshares Beer, put it in bottles and then organize an international 'Caps' tournament?

Caps is a drinking game where two or more participants sit opposite each other (or roughly in a circle) on the floor or at a table.  They have a bottle of beer in front of them with the bottle cap reversed and sitting on top.  The idea is to use a bottle cap to knock the cap off your opponent's bottle.  If you succeed, then your opponent has a chance to return fire and knock your bottle cap off.  If he fails then he must drink a finger of his beer, if he succeeds, then the round continues racking up fingers until someone chokes and misses.  Once a player has finished his bottle of beer, he adds another in front of him with another reversed cap.  The combination of skill, beer and competition can produce a fantastic spectacle and is a lot of fun.

I'm imagining Redbullesque media/marketing with a dodgeball kind of style.  The prize would need to be significant to initially galvanize attention.  Believe me, i'm ready to be given short thrift on this one! :)

I really like the idea, it's certainly ambitious!  Perhaps with a defined goal of visiting every state would be better though.....you could always do it again!  Also, maybe do this in parallel with trips in Europe and in China or anywhere else that could gather enough participants and support like xeroc suggested.....that would be awesome!

You'd need a clearly defined set of objectives with regard to media generation and how you'd use it before, during and after the trips.

You made me think of the Gumball Rally for Bitshares.....of course we'd be showcasing Bitshares sexy cryptotech rather than cars.  More challenging perhaps but not impossible.

Stan clearly feels that something good is in the pipeline. Stan always feels something good is in the pipeline because he believes in the mission, the principals, the technology, the delegates, the  devs and his son. If the only metric you are  judging the project  on at this stage  is price and/or market cap, then you're going to struggle to be  able to enjoy the building process  along with all  the  incremental victories and defeats. Remember we're building a Blockchain Behemoth here!

If Stan thinks there's something to get excited about, that's good enough for me and I'd liket to hear about it! Bitshares has accomplished some truly remarkable things already. The innovations and development has lived up to expectations time and again. In many ways they've over-delivered.  The integrity of this project, the positivity, the talent, the creativity and  the determination to reach our objective  is what will make it succeed. Whatever you're metric for judging success, one day Bishares will deliver for you.

Thank you very much jsidhu.  There is no immediate rush as our new website must launch first but I'm looking forward to trying out the plugin and will feed back!

I used jsidhu services for my own site http://cryptosmith.info/index.php and I was very pleased.

Not only did he complete the work ahead of schedule but he also went above and beyond in what he was asked to do.

That's a wonderful endorsement for jsidhu, thanks Gentso1.  Lovin your site!!

All sorts of mindset will be free to evolve and flourish once the mechanisms of control begin to degrade in the face of blooming financial sovereignty.  With the bricks of our minds and the mortar of our connections to each other, instead of always building a bloody pyramid (because that is the limit of a psychopath's imagination,) we'll be able to build a thousand pyramids or, more likely a thousand thousand different objects.

With advanced robotics, the way we spend our time and the way we calculate "worth" could be very different....let's hope tyranny has been neutralized before that can of worms is fully opened!

I think it's the lies rather than the physical limitations of economic slavery that do the most damage to us.  Where would 9 billion minds take us if they were all free?

Thank you Bitshares for already having taught me patience!  Without that, i'd be tearing what's left of my hair out with excitement!

That sounds like an interesting concept!  I'm not sure i understand how that would work or what the benefit would be?  Could you explain a bit further what that would mean please?

General Discussion / Re: We need an economist

If paper currencies have an innate value of zero and the central banks are determined to reveal that fact to larger and larger numbers of people, then very rapidly bitUSD and the rest will have a zero value.  We should be somewhat wary of who we encourage to use each of these bitAssets and in what way.

Even if the managed price of Gold goes to zero, it won't be long before a physical market price exerts itself and your bitGold reflects that.  bitAnything-that-actually-has-value should be the ones to market!

General Discussion / Re: What is a DAC to you?
« on: April 21, 2015, 01:32:29 pm »
A DAC for me is a set of rules, governed by consensus, that sits upon a network and enables participants to communicate freely and securely with digital information.

DAN - Decentralized Autonomous Network.

What I hope will emerge is a monumentally positive change in how the sum of human interaction manifests on this planet.

Bitshares gateways operate in the same manner. Gateway IOUs are credit, they are not supposed to be fungible. In Bitshares' case you have bts and bitusd for that.

Yes, but Ripple retains power that Bitshares decentralizes and therefore does not.  Ripple apparently pressured Bitstamp into freezing a transaction and they complied.  Would Bitshares be able to do that to a Bitshares gateway?  I don't think so because there is no central authority within Bitshares that could punish a gateway.  A gateway is responsible for it's own conduct and reputation, but in this case, their decision may have been affected by the power Ripple holds over the network.

Really loving your Motivation Monday musings CLains!  +5%

Emotions have a powerful effect on our thoughts.  If a person can associate a powerful positive emotion to the idea of discovering truth or thinking critically, they may find they can more readily disregard unconscious habitual thinking.

It appears that Ripple will support just fine the existing system. Bitcoin whales should just move to Bitshares..

I've said it before, as have others......Ripple and any system like it that retains authority over transactions are the manifestation of central banking 2.0

If the power is available, eventually it will be used to further special interests and the corruption sets in.

I have a stake in a friend's Vape retail company, Vape Emporium, based in Hampstead London.  We also have a website http://vapeemporium.com/ which is currently being rebuilt and should be relaunched in a couple of weeks.  Once the new website is live, i'd really like for us to be able to accept BitShares & BitAssets.  Are the merchant plugins ready to go?  Could someone please suggest a good place to start for up-to-date info and support?

Also, in trying to think of how I could add value to both BitShares and Vape Emporium, I started contemplating the potential issuance of a UIA on BitShares.  I imagined the token could operate like a loyalty scheme that would discount VE's products (is this potentially dangerous with growth needing to pay for the discounts?) and perhaps act as the reward for some kind of referral scheme.  I'm having difficulty working through the economics though; how many tokens should there be at launch, can we involve our suppliers, should we do an asset drop and to whom? Should used tokens be burned?  Should the supply be fixed?  Can anyone imagine a scenario where a competitor might accept our UIA to discount their products etc.

I would appreciate any feedback or insights you may have.  This is a genuine attempt to bring value/transactions and awareness to BitShares.....we need everyday people to eventually start using our BitShares products.  Vaping is a growing trend with numbers and demographics that should appeal!  We could also do a lot to point non-crypto literate people to the right places for more information if the UIA is a success and it generates further interest in BitShares.

What platform will vapor website use? There are plugins for a bunch with more to come.

The website is currently using the Magento online shopping cart software.
