For ease of use I'd do this:

go to the programs/qt_wallet/bin
sudo cp Bitshares /usr/local/bin/.

go to the programs/qt_wallet/bin
sudo cp Bitshares /usr/local/bin/.

That way it's on the path.

Thanks Riverhead for your help!  I finally got it to work. Now I see the user agreement and registration page. So I assume that everything is done now? Where are my private keys stored so I can make a copy of them?

Have you cloned the source from git yet? If so, remember it is case sensitive and they changed some letters to capitals.

I only see the Windows and the Mac clients. Is there a Linux version download link?

I love google trends as it can give you really good information.

I noticed that on other bitcoin/crypto currency forums Bitshares hardly ever gets mentioned, and most people still don't even know about Bitshares yet. Just an observation.
