General Discussion / Re: Market Report
« on: August 14, 2014, 10:25:17 am »

Here are my (arguably useless thoughts).

1.NXT is the next best thing after Bitshares (BTSX in particular). NXT has been in down-ward spiral for well over a month. Any actual market functionality by BTSX will send NXT if not at, pretty close to 0.000025... MHO

2.If you gonna invest real $, there is a good chance BTC will go down below $500/BTC. Do you want to wait for that opportunity to buy BTSX? I honestly do not know....
I personally liquidated all my crypto hedges (NXT, NEM, Qora... you name it) to go all in BTSX, and can afford to patiently wait BTC to go down, so I can go USD ->BTC -> BTSX

3.Putting all eggs in one basket is not recommended strategy, but if you consider crypto currency as just one egg in your basket, I find it not too risky too put  all my money on that one thing I see most viable.

4. Any Euth investors around? If yes, kiss them good bye. If you get almost all of your money back after 12-15mo you should consider yourself extremely lucky and not try this again!

Good post. However I don't think Maidsafe should be ignored..

I remember 'playing' it last year. It was a similar thing to second life, a virtual world etc.. but it was very buggy at the time. TBH I think they have done away with that side of it. Just logged into my profile now and there are lots of trading screens, news boards, hall of fame etc... It's not a bitcoin payment processor. I don't think there are many users too. Maybe its too early to tell what it is. Just thought I'd alert you guys to it.

Just found this : https://angel.co/seventh-continent

Anybody heard of it?

https://7cbit.com/c7/main.jsp

I remember subscribing to their mailing list last year. Looks like they are live now as they mailed me this morning.
Some sort of digital commodities / second life type game where you can make real profits trading bitcoin and or real currency. Perhaps something like this would make an awesome DAC ?

bitTunesXstream

Or maybe just tag the 'stream' bit to bitTunesX for branding of streaming services later on.

Competition is a very healthy thing, I welcome it. But this early on, it's good to cover as much ground as possible. Eventually we will overlap, and that's fine, that's how we get better.

Wise words

Me too !
bitsharesxblockchain.com

I'm actually focused more on delegates statistics - block explorer I will do last, since there is one already in the client. So this is good because we probably won't overlap (yet).

OK. Well I'm still some way off yet. Coding is something I don't get much time for. So as and when really. But I'll try and keep it as basic as I can, and not tread on your toes!

General Discussion / Re: Who wants btsxtalk ?
« on: July 21, 2014, 11:54:41 pm »

I am real close to setting up btsxtalk.org using simple machines forum.  This means it'll be a lot like this place or bitcointalk

Cons) Splits off users into 2 sites intead of bitsharestalk - This can be bad for traffic in general.  It becomes a pain to now view 2 forums.

Pros)  We get a forum with lots of subforums.  This can help promote discussion.  This also lets Bitsharestalk.org go back to other core interests.  All forums are back to top level.  I'll enforce exist usernames from this forum, but otherwise very pro-speech and sock puppets are allowed.  No more need to hide forums on a second page because of space issues. It can promote discussion because now people can go there straight for btsx.  There will be a lot of different things to discuss once the next stage goes live.  We already have voting, delegate running, etc etc.

I'll make plenty of mods to clean up spam, but no one will be able to see IPs except me the owner.  (Assuming SMF allows that.)  It would be run like bitcointalk.org and here. No personal information given out that isn't already made available.  I will delete over the top maliciousness.  I will only edit posts to remove personal or tasteless content.

The reason I am posting this here is that I really don't care to do it if I don't feel I have a large amount of community support.  Maybe people think it isn't worth it to potentially fragment the forums.  There is nothing wrong with this place btw.  It is just becoming cluttered.

Use Discourse! The best forum is the MaidSafe forum because they use Discourse. http://www.discourse.org/

Why clone this forum and make it exactly the same?

Discourse is VERY good.

Very amateur feeling after navigating it. (only the background is great but it isn't enough)

What about:

Do you think for a potentially huge Industry and marketcap this is better?  :P

Much better!  :)

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. But am I the only one who thinks the website is pretty ugly? It looks like it's been designed by a three year old. For a potentially huge Industry and marketcap, can't the website be designed better? Some of the links in the middle lead to 404 pages, hence no content / dead links.

Has or will this be addressed does anybody know?

Auroracoin example of big Sharedrop vs. alternative -

If someone said to me - 'Iceland is ripe for bootstrapping a crypto-currency, they've recently experienced huge economic upheaval and still have capital controls in place.  They also only have a small fairly wealthy population of only 320 000 that would be easy to effectively target.' - I would agree.

But when they said we're making 'AuroraCoin' and giving 50% away in Sharedrops - I just laughed. Some (On this forum) also got excited about the guys bootstrapping Silicon Valley with a 50% Sharedrop coin,  but again I find the idea crazy. (Then people say oh if only they'd done the Sharedrop this way or that way, or supported them like this, it would have been better, but I'm still mostly sceptical.)

If however someone said - we're making 'ICE-Coin'

Instead of a benefactor getting half the developers equity and trying to make a price floor as you're suggesting, I would have - 'We have a benefactor who's given us $250 000 for 5% equity.'
$50 000 is being used to purchase 10 'ICE-Coin' branded ATM's & rent space in 10 of the most popular locations around Iceland for a year.
$50 000 is being spent renting two billboards, one on the main road from the airport and one in the main high street advertising Ice-Coin for 12 months.
$100 000 is being targeted at incentivising smaller retailers, hotels and travel agents to trial 'ICE-Coin' payments and advertise at their store fronts for a year. So far we have Z, B & Y on board...
$50 000 is being spent on creating two Icelandic videos, one a 30 second advert which will be played on radio & TV for three months.
We're  giving 10% of the equity to Hagar, one of Iceland's biggest retailers in exchange for agreeing to trial ICE-Coin as a payment option for the next 12 months.
2.5% is being made available via a faucet  and we're going to give 1.5% equity a year to charitable & popular Iceland based causes based on shareholder votes.

40% of equity is being divided between AGS & PTS as we are using their DPOS Blockchains and Toolkit & they provide a strong distributed base of shareholder support and ensure that our benefactor and retailers who are given equity don't have a stake that is big enough to manipulate or control the currency. We are announcing a snapshot to take place in one month from PTS allowing other interested parties to get on board and sell their PTS afterwards if they wish. The remaining 40% of the equity is being released via delegates over 5 years to be directed at activities shareholders feel is best suited to developing ICE-Coin.

Now you actually have some sort of a currency that might be able to bootstrap itself in Iceland that I would consider buying.

Even better news if Ice Coin launched at the same time as AuroraCoin -
'Hey guys some people think you can bootstrap a currency by giving away 50% of the equity! Obviously this will result a fairly worthless crypto but hopefully it will make some people aware of crypto-currency so the advertising will certainly be useful to us! In fact we're offering a service encouraging people to claim & quickly sell their free Auroracoins while they still have value and exchange those free Kr. into ICE-Coin - A currency which actually has a strong stable shareholder supported value, is useful within Iceland and has an effective business plan to grow and benefit Iceland.'

I know most people here who favour sharedrops agree most of the previous attempts have gone about it the wrong way, but I'm just tying to communicate the idea that shareholder equity can be spent in ways other than sharedrops (though I'm not against reasonable faucets & charity of up to 5% total equity.) & the amount that would be wasted on 'free marketing' can be put to better use. And personally I would be more fearful of forks that use shareholder equity to implement a credible business plan vs. giving most of it away when AGS & PTS already gives you a strong supportive base and can bring in 100's/1000's of new people via a PTS Snapshot announcement.

Cryptsy = Horrible

All eventually to be united under the banner of BitShares X. The first iteration, currently in testing and OMG OH SO CLOSE to being rolled out to the general public, is BitShares XT. The 'T' does not stand for "test," as far as I can tell it's an arbitrarily chosen letter. This string of DACs comprising BitShares X will use BitShares (no letter after it) as the primary currency. It will implement the first few features, including a small number of bitAssets, and the ability to short them.

Just pointing something out. On the main bitshares.org site (see http://bitshares.org/faq/). The :

What is the difference between BitShares X and XT?
BitShares X is a family of DACs based on the decentralized exchange concept. Each one will have its own blockchain and will implement different variations on the core idea. The “T” in BitShares XT stands for “Test”; it is the first DAC in the BitShares X family.

Might need changing..
