I sold some BTS for IOTA because IOTA has free transactions for micropayments, but now BM propose "zero" transaction fees for low balances with scaling algos that still compensate lifetime members. I would sell IOTA and get back into BTS if this happens but committee must still vote right?

For bringing us such a valuable initiative i would like to thank you.  though it isnt much right now i suspect there will likely be times someday in the future when these will have value.

Consider it thanks forngoing above and beyond.

The main disadvantage of no fees is to people previously receiving fees.  People have proposed a game theory idea that if someone shorted investment in the system they could work to destroy it in order to reap a larger gain.  I largely discount this idea though because someone could short a PoW network and equally work to destroy it.

IMO fee PoS never had any advantages toward the larger ideal of cryptocurrency adoption.

always interested in having hangouts to bring people on board.  Also talking to some peeps from other cool projects.

Did you heard about Brave Browser? No?

Here you have: http://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/267089/new-browser-offers-brave-solution-to-ad-blocking.html

this is browser created by former Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich, which integrate bitoins to it.

I have just created an ticket in their github (I hope, that this is the right place, and they will notice it).

https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues/682

Quote
Daniel Larimer (@bytemaster) - lead developer of cryptonomex lately proposed an idea of new way of charging fees in the bitshares network. Briefly... bitshares can be a fee-less blockchain, allowing for truly micropayments.

In first poll [91,5% of bitshares community](https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,21359.0.html) support this idea, what means that probably in near future this will be implemented.

I believe that cooperation of brave and bitshares can introduce a lot of new possibilities. People could not only send fractions of bitcoins, but actually fractions of stable bitAssets like bitUSD or bitCNY.

Moreover, sites could giveaway custom tokens (which are very easy to create on bitshares) to their readers/users, which can act like shares of blog/site/service. In that way, owner of the website can not only offer a ads free service for tiny price, but also a revenue from profits of website/blog.

It would be great deal in the future, to trade "RedditSupporter" asset for a discount buying a airplane ticket on Hipmunk.com (both services were created by A. Ohanian). Possibilities are endless :)

What do you think about this idea? I wrote an ticket, but maybe direct approach by @bytemaster could be better.

great efforts noisy.  I love seeing people reaching out and actually doing something other than just bringing stuff up in a post here (as if it will magically make someone else want to move).

ok... I believe we all see, that majority of community likes this idea. What should be done next to turn this idea into reality? Worker proposal?

I am very much for doing this...but I think we need to TEST it by making it this way for only a small period of time (perhaps 3 months?)  to try it and see its effects.  We can offer it for a limited window of time and couple it with something like a "buy one get two free" for accounts during this period to help offset the lower fees.  If they both work together to bring in more income, while also incentivizing the use of lifetime membership accounts...the ltm's might actually far outweigh the value lost from trading fees.

This also gives people who buy ltm's a good reason to consider sharing it (or selling it) to someone else.  This opens up the market for people to want to start grabbing named wallets (at a significant cost) and selling them or finding other profitable ways to get them into the hands of others.

Technical Support / Re: 29,000SolCERT tx fee?
« on: February 09, 2016, 04:29:20 pm »
@SolomonSollarsNSense has given me 10,000 SolCERTS to distribute to hangout attendees and those who complete quests.

However, when I get to the point when im going to send them to my Sharebits.IO account...it tries to charge me approx 29,000 SolCERTs.  There has been no market fee set...
That's transfer fee.
According to https://cryptofresh.com/a/SOLCERT, the exchange rate is: 0.00001 BTS/SOLCERT.
So a standard transfer fee of 30BTS = 3,000,000 SOLCERT. I'm curious why the GUI wanted to charge you 29,000.

Thanks Abit for the reply. Is there a way to change this? So that there is no fee?

that is odd...the ratio defaults to 1:1 and I didn't change it...

General Discussion / Re: Is Bitshares attempting to get on Microsoft Azure?
« on: February 09, 2016, 08:25:30 am »
If I don't see any movement on this in the coming month I promise you we will head this up and be the lead to ensure that we can be available on the Azure BaaS.

At present we are tied up with other things atm and this would require a great deal of attention money and time to execute.

I think it will be worth the effort though.

@BunkerChain Labs Will you really look into this?

He is busy with committee stuff these days I am sure--which is pretty much a full time job in and of itself from what I see in their discussions.

As far as Azure goes, I have some leads I am working on with Ronny.  Nothing else to say yet though so I am giving what I have at this juncture with no promises other than "I am actively looking into our options and opportunities".

May I suggest you amend the roadmap to include some time post-vote to:
  • Develops the code
  • Test code on the test net
  • Solicate active witness intended [adoption | rejection]
  • Allow stakeholders 14 days to vote a witness set matching their intended network direction
  • Hard fork block (if then active witness set is running revised code base).
Although this proposal is largely a set of parameter changes impacting fees, market order mechanics may be impacted thus the potential to change resource requirements of network nodes. These impacts must be considered and compensated to ensure future success.

Respectfully,
Fox

[edit: formatting]
This fee schedule change doesn't require a hard fork, so nothing to do with witnesses.
If we can't reach a consensus this time, no need to think further.

I think @Fox is thinking in terms of:   "Although this proposal is largely a set of parameter changes impacting fees, market order mechanics may be impacted thus the potential to change resource requirements of network nodes. "

General Discussion / Re: [ANN] Sharebits Sharedrop Date Confirmed!
« on: February 07, 2016, 02:10:41 pm »
+5% working on doing my own sharedrop.

+5% looking forward for announce, will be excellent if sharedrop will be at same date  :)

Yeh and if it is, what tokens will it be dropped on?

I'm plain on using the sharebits to drop on FISTBUMP, because they are popular and  it's the price range I was looking for. The 14th sounds like a good day to try it. No guarantees thou. This will be my first attempt at something new.

if you want help i think i can.

You already gave me help too get to this point, so I know I can count on you.

We are trying our best.  I'm just glad to be able to use a tool to help bring us closer together and give us some real bait to put on our hooks so to speak.

If it makes us lots of money in the long run too---then, um, cool!  I can honestly say that I feel comfortable that we took in minimal outside funding and received something quite empowering.  This is the stuff i live for...lol.  Been waiting so long for a tool like this that shows the power of bitshares (and alllll its tokens).  :D

@tbone you need to login with the security code to be able to withdraw. If you don't have one you can generate one on the Security tab and you'll get a PM on BitsharesTalk.

Hey unosoke.  First thanks for helping him with this.  Second, just out of curiosity...did you realize you only have 16 posts?  I am sure you are not that new to the community...lol.

General Discussion / Re: Metatrader 4 and Bitshares
« on: February 07, 2016, 12:05:55 am »
Metatrader4 is the defacto forex consumer trading platform http://www.metatrader4.com/en

The key feature of MT4 is the ability to buy, create and run your own trading bots - this is a massive source of liquidity and trading volume and there are vast libraries of such bots available on the metatrader marketplace https://www.mql5.com/en/market/mt4

There has been some discussion about how to integrate metatrader 4 with bitshares, and I have good experience of both platforms so I know what it will take. I've created this thread to open the discussion about how this might be achieved.

There are a few things to know about MT4 first:

1. This is a margin trading platform. You go long/short with your base currency as collateral in your desired market, and you always close your order with one of the opposite type, so if you buy, you must sell to close your position. This means you always end up back in the same currency you started out with.
2. There is typically leverage available, the amount varies depending on your broker
3. I *think* the available markets are hard coded into the platform, so you have to offer markets like EUR/USD, JPY/USD etc
4. The is no orderbook available to traders (this is a big negative point)
5. The spreads are typically denoted in Pips, which are fractions of a dollar (this is a bit of a sticking point for integration)
6. The metatrader 4 client side app communicates with the broker via a custom protocol - there would need to be a bitshares bridge server
7. Placing and cancelling limit orders is free
8. There are order types bitshares doesn't support right now, buy stop and sell stop which are resting orders which do not activate until the price reaches them (opposite way to regular limit orders)
9. Metatrader the corporation would almost certainly be opposed to this integration, so this would need to be done with no central point of failure in terms of legal ramifications

I propose something radical to address point 7, which is a huge point for existing MT4 users who would never accept having to pay for that: require a Proof of Work for placement and cancel orders, but have 0 transaction fee. That would prevent spam while costing no currency.

Point 8 could easily be addressed by adding these order types into the DEX.

In summary, I think it would be possible to integrate IF bitshares supported margin trading in a compatible way.

Cheers, Paul.

you wonderful man....
