BitShares AGS / Re: help! do i understand?
« on: March 06, 2014, 08:14:20 pm »
I think this window right now, before Bitshares X is launched and while PTS and AGS are cheap, may be one of the greatest buying opportunities in history.

BitShares PTS / Re: Price

They have said that when the time is right, they will act to protect the PTS price. Right now, I'm buying as much as I can...great opportunity.

Revelation 22:18-19:

"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book."

I'm not a Bible thumper, but that's a pretty good hit on those with forked tongues. Honor ye the Social Contract or else...build your own "community" with eight pages of brand-new "interested" newbie posters on the bitcoin talk forum.

That's right. These DACs may cost a lot of jobs in the short term, all of them in the greedy and wasteful financial sector. But oh, the opportunities it will create! If we think eBay and the Amazon storefront created a lot of new chances for do-it-yourself businesses, we ain't seen nothing' yet! There will be many, many new opportunities for people to make great incomes...from anywhere in the world that's connected.

General Discussion / Re: Estimate of the dividends

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway doesn't pay a dividend either. If he's any good, he says, the price of the stock will go up. So there you have it.

Awesome. Thanks for the assurance, Stan, and I appreciate your hard work. I, for one, am buying up PTS and AGS in anticipation of good things to come!

Sounds fantastic! Bytemaster, can you be sure to check with legal counsel to make sure that no one involved would need state-level insurance licenses? I think it's on the same, slightly indirect 'hedging' level of Bitshares X. But I'd want to be double-sure it doesn't come under state regs.

I'm really excited about this DAC. Insurance companies make a killing by doing nothing more than what a pool of people can do by agreeing to combine their strength and cover each others' risks. This can work, help people save money, and be huge!

General Discussion / Re: [POLL] How much would you sell your BTS for?
« on: March 04, 2014, 05:30:11 am »
Excellent. I think the most important thing is to get this first one right. Once it is in place and working well, then the sky is the limit with others, but no need to duplicate the formula until it's proven. It WILL be a winner, but some short term tweaking may be needed.

To all of you working long nights on this, the rest of us "passive investor" types do not take this for granted. You are helping create one hell of an opportunity, not only to make lots of money but also to improve the world for tons of people. Thanks for everything you are doing.

BitShares PTS / Re: Price

Falling PTS: Best deal in town, even substracting the Bitshares X premium. I thought they were worthwhile at $16. At these prices, I'm scooping up all I can.

The student was enlightened when he relaxed and stopped asking. He realized that either he knew all along or that he would never truly understand.

General Discussion / Re: Bter will Redeem BTS for PTS holders
« on: February 28, 2014, 10:41:51 pm »
The people on this forum think BTS is worth $1000. I'm right there with you on that. But aren't there plenty of soon-to-be BTS holders who are not active and may have just purchased it to speculate? Gotta be a few who would sell for less than $1000. How about everyone on here agree to buy it up right away? I sure will if I see any for sale. It will be great if real long term stake holders can prevent that sort of erosion.

General Discussion / Up Yours, DAC
« on: February 28, 2014, 07:31:51 pm »
Pandora meets Autosurf. Advertisers, musicians, videographers, and website owners pay to have their work seen by a captive audience (or it could start with one or two of these categories). Viewers earn a small amount for watching a channel continuously and upvoting/downvoting content. Possible Facebook integration to add "likes" for the best content. Content with a high upvote ratio gets more airtime per dollar spent. Over time, either the channels get more specific or else (if someone can program this in), the content is specifically tailored to a viewer's past history of upvote preferences. Maybe some kind of coordination with the Music or Radio DAC?

Nice of them to offer that. But I really wouldn't risk keeping PTS in an exchange, especially during this snapshot. I'm sure Cryptsy's gonna keep its BTS.

General Discussion / Re: Associated Press, DAC
« on: February 26, 2014, 06:57:15 am »
This is a great idea. I could even foresee some articles or e-books (good ones, not crap) being clustered into different topical areas, perhaps different DACs. I've written a number of nonfiction e-books that sell on Amazon, where I net $2K-$3K per month on those. That's just me writing in my spare time, side income, so multiply the possibilities with multiple authors. If articles or e-books were topically focused, there could be a profitable company there. It's not low maintenance, but it can generate some steady returns. Article writers, particularly, are not accustomed to earning royalties, and this could be a draw.

Two concerns I have. First, I'm pretty sure "Associated Press" and "AP" are trademarked. I know I'm a little nervous about government interference, etc., but I really would suggest being ultra-careful about not throwing around names that are someone else's property. It would really suck to have some jerks come in and shut down this whole thing just for some ultimately insignificant reason like that; I think the names here must be unique or generic. Please tread carefully; Invictus' work is too important to mess up.

Second, with articles, books, or anything people write, there is good content and there is crud. There are plenty of lousy writers who are also some of the first to become attracted to a moneymaking concept. There is a large group of people who believe they are born to write, yet have never made a dime off it before. For good reason. So my question here, having written books and articles (and having worked with print publishers before also) is: who filters content? With enough volume, you can let the market do it using ratings, like Amazon does. The good stuff (with high ratings and sales) comes up in searches, while the crud quickly drops off the map. But this filter only works when you have sufficient volume.

The other way to filter content is to have a non-digital human being (no, heaven forbid!) serving as editor. Initially, this may be a good idea, since this person could commission certain content and steer it a bit so you end up with a high quality newsroom/bookstore/library. As the store gains enough content/volume/traction, you could let ratings and the market take over. Or else you could empower the publisher/editor to continue to filter out the worst and highlight the best. Without some smart management, I think you end up with enough junk that it turns off too many would-be customers.

General Discussion / Re: Insurance DAC
« on: February 26, 2014, 06:33:13 am »
I think an Insurance DAC would be awesome. But I wonder if it would need to be worded differently. Insurance, like gambling, is heavily regulated and you need a license (at the state level in the US) to sell it. So essentially you would be hedging with the DAC. I agree that life insurance would be the easiest way to get into this, since the only external legal instrument you would need to verify is a death certificate. Other forms of insurance (car, property, etc.) can get pretty messy.
