General Discussion / Using BitsharesX platform for an ICO?
« on: September 14, 2014, 11:11:07 am »
I'm researching for my next article, specifically in regard to ICO and how effective each platform might be for that style of business funding.

Has there been a case of any companies using the BitAsset system to raise funds yet? It seems like it would be an amazing tool for businesses (except that it currently costs over 6,000 USD worth of BTSX to create an asset which seems a tad excessive).

But cost aside, does anyone know of any organization even considering an ICO on the BitAsset platform?

General Discussion / my latest article: I compare BitUSD and CoinoUSD
« on: September 14, 2014, 07:12:13 am »
I was really surprised to see how closely both have been tracking actual dollar value:

I was extolling the wonders of BitsharesX to a friend and she asked me a question that I couldn't answer with complete confidence, specifically, "how private the entire platform can be for an end user?"

I can answer that question (more or less) for other, more typical, crytocurrencies but BitsharesX is obviously an altogether different beast. I've been so stoked on the trading platform I haven't even stopped to think if it is possible to find myself or another trader via activity on the platform somehow.

Anyone have any thoughts on the anonymity issue in regards to the BTSX platform?

The last time I tried to short BitUSD the price went up but I turned a profit somehow. While I'm glad to see the amount of BTSX I had increase as a result that is exactly backwards of the way shorts are supposed to work, if I'm not mistaken.

A short should simply be an agreement to return X amount of BitUSD to the bidder at a future date. If the BTSX price per unit of BitUSD rises it should cost me more to do so thereby eating away at some of my collateral. If the price falls I should profit the difference... but that doesn't seem to be how it's working.

Am I missing something here?

General Discussion / A suggesting for transaction history
« on: September 11, 2014, 10:55:35 pm »
It would make a lot more sense to me if transaction history showed the price you bought or sold BitUSD/BTSX for by using the same inputs you used when you initiated the trade. Currently, it expresses the values backwards so if I sell BitUSD at X amount of BTSX per unit it will read something like "pay bid @ 0.04 USD / BTSX" in the transaction history.

That's all well and good except if I don't write down the sales price it's very tricky to figure out what I actually sold it for. The transaction history should have at least one line that matches my inputs and the information it's currently showing should be something like "details" I can see if I open up that transaction, is what I'm asserting.

edit: this would also have the added effect of cleaning up what the transaction history looks like. So instead of showing all the bits and pieces of a transaction separately you have a single, time stamped, line item which clearly matches the info I inputted to make the sale. The details of which should only be seen if I expand that transaction. I think you'll find users will have a much more pleasant experience if you do this.

Running on Win7 64 bit - "The version of this file is not compatiable with the version of Windows you are running"

Is there a 64 bit version of 4.12 hiding somewhere?

Hey guys, I've got about 24 hours left on my deadline for part 2 of my Bitshares coverage:   http://bitcoinist.net/bitsharesx-i-join-the-grand-experiment-part-1-of-2/

I'd really love to be able to focus on the fact that I was able to execute trades in this economic system that resulted in a profit (which my trades have, thankfully) however I keep encountering problems right at the time I want to execute a trade that conveniently prevent me from making the trades I want and instead lock me in position long enough to make less or no profit.

If it happened once or twice I'd just chalk it up to a bug but every time the market turns and it's time to move either into BitUSD or out of BitUSD, the system inconveniently decides that it won't execute my trades (for a number of different reasons ranging from "insufficient market depth" or a bad version of the application). My point being that I have the growing suspicion that something is rotten in denmark given the timing of the problems (always as BTSX is changing directions).

Rather than simply be paranoid I'd rather bring up the issue here and see what everyone has to say. More than anything I want this system to work as advertised but so far (despite making money) it has fought me every inch of the way.

Right now the market slowed and I wanted to dive back into BitUSD. However, my open orders just hang even though there seems to be people willing to sell at that price. Any clue why that might be happening? (mind you I am losing money every second the sale does not execute, which has happened numerous times already)

General Discussion / Are shorts not able to be purchased right now?
« on: September 04, 2014, 04:45:16 am »
I executed two BitUSD purchases, of which there are two short sales within range. For some reason they aren't executing though. What am I missing here?

I want to buy BitUSD at the price being offered... is the system not allowing the people that are trying to short BitUSD do so right now?

General Discussion / BitUSD trading going to resume anytime soon?
« on: August 30, 2014, 02:29:58 pm »
Having value trapped in one currency, even if for a day, can be costly in a market this volatile. Especially now that BTSX seems to be inching up, thats when I want out of BitUSD, after all.

General Discussion / Does BitUSD pull marketcap from BitsharesX?
« on: August 30, 2014, 04:29:53 am »
Hi again team,

Does purchasing BitUSD or any BitAsset pull value from BTSX's marketcap? Or is it calculated in such a way that once we push value into the whole BTSX system via purchasing BTSX, BitsharesX's total market cap will reflect all all BTSX plus all BitAssets? Just trying to understand the dynamic there.

Would be a very easy explanation for the price drop on BTSX.

Can anyone explain why the order board would ever look like this:  http://imgur.com/1QqIUwb

It seems there are Buy order matching or in excess of the asks/sells/shorts but they seem to just be hanging there, looking at each other instead. My system is synced and working, it seems those orders are just not matched properly? Is it that the amounts aren't exact? So instead of fulfilling a partial order it waits until is can completely fill either side or is this just some kind of lag/bug?

Technical Support / Not connecting, not syncing
« on: August 29, 2014, 12:28:57 am »
Been having trouble all day with connecting and syncing. At first it was simply stuck syncing for a long time but now it won't even connect.

I'm sitting in on the webinar currently so I know my connection is functioning properly but I can't get in to see how some of my trades are doing.

Any advice? I've re-installed the latest version but I still have the same problem.

Just thought I'd drop it off here since everyone has been so helpful thus far:
