For the life of me, I cannot decide whether I prefer NXT’s SAE or BitsharesX more....

Nice article, but it seems to be missing one important thing. I'll let the most interesting BitUSD purchaser in the world answer...

+5%!  It sounds like CoinoUSD is an IOU for the gateway which is a centralized entity, no?  Is it backed by anything or fungible in the network?

It is fungible and available for sale via multiple channels yes (other exchanes including NXT's SAE). How well those channels track the dollar remains to be seen.

General Discussion / Using BitsharesX platform for an ICO?
« on: September 14, 2014, 11:11:07 am »
I'm researching for my next article, specifically in regard to ICO and how effective each platform might be for that style of business funding.

Has there been a case of any companies using the BitAsset system to raise funds yet? It seems like it would be an amazing tool for businesses (except that it currently costs over 6,000 USD worth of BTSX to create an asset which seems a tad excessive).

But cost aside, does anyone know of any organization even considering an ICO on the BitAsset platform?

I was really surprised to see how closely both have been tracking actual dollar value:

Referring to teleport tech yes?

I was extolling the wonders of BitsharesX to a friend and she asked me a question that I couldn't answer with complete confidence, specifically, "how private the entire platform can be for an end user?"

I can answer that question (more or less) for other, more typical, crytocurrencies but BitsharesX is obviously an altogether different beast. I've been so stoked on the trading platform I haven't even stopped to think if it is possible to find myself or another trader via activity on the platform somehow.

Anyone have any thoughts on the anonymity issue in regards to the BTSX platform?

Hmm, is there a rule in effect that won't let you short BitUSD below the lowest ASK price?

I've offered to match a bid perfectly but my Short request just hangs in limbo as an open order. The transaction doesn't match to the available bid and I can't see the short request on the board.

Seems peculiar, no?

I'm currently running another test transaction but the price of BitUSD went up and I ended up walking away with more BTSX on a short... which seems backwards to me but maybe I am simply thinking of the market backwards already.

I will report back with exact numbers this time (didn't write everything down last time and as I mentioned in another thread the transaction history needs a little work).

General Discussion / Re: A suggesting for transaction history

Glad to hear your working on it. I'm enjoying using the platform a great deal. So much so that I think I'm going to do a weekly column focusing just on the Bitshares platform but there are also a lot of places it can be improved dramatically.

If your team can make it so that the average joe can look at the system and get a feel for what's going on, you will have a trillion dollar platform on your hands.

I thought the first line was clear enough, I shorted BitUSD at one price, the price went up and then when I closed the short I ended up with more BTSX than I has started with. Which seems exactly backwards of what should have happened.

11
The last time I tried to short BitUSD the price went up but I turned a profit somehow. While I'm glad to see the amount of BTSX I had increase as a result that is exactly backwards of the way shorts are supposed to work, if I'm not mistaken.

A short should simply be an agreement to return X amount of BitUSD to the bidder at a future date. If the BTSX price per unit of BitUSD rises it should cost me more to do so thereby eating away at some of my collateral. If the price falls I should profit the difference... but that doesn't seem to be how it's working.

Am I missing something here?

General Discussion / A suggesting for transaction history
« on: September 11, 2014, 10:55:35 pm »
It would make a lot more sense to me if transaction history showed the price you bought or sold BitUSD/BTSX for by using the same inputs you used when you initiated the trade. Currently, it expresses the values backwards so if I sell BitUSD at X amount of BTSX per unit it will read something like "pay bid @ 0.04 USD / BTSX" in the transaction history.

That's all well and good except if I don't write down the sales price it's very tricky to figure out what I actually sold it for. The transaction history should have at least one line that matches my inputs and the information it's currently showing should be something like "details" I can see if I open up that transaction, is what I'm asserting.

edit: this would also have the added effect of cleaning up what the transaction history looks like. So instead of showing all the bits and pieces of a transaction separately you have a single, time stamped, line item which clearly matches the info I inputted to make the sale. The details of which should only be seen if I expand that transaction. I think you'll find users will have a much more pleasant experience if you do this.

General Discussion / Re: When will short function work?

Still no word on when the feature will be working again? See plenty of shorts that I'd like to be on the other side of but attempting to buy them just leaves my order hanging indefinitely.

how come my comment on the site was deleted??

A comment on the Bitcoinist site was deleted?

I know the admin was wiping some spam from the site earlier but to my knowledge they don't police actual posts. If it happens again please let me know and I will bring it up with the editor.

What did you say in the comment?

Feel free to add to the discussion!

Thanks again for all the help.

Very nice read.  You forgot to mention which exchange to avoid.  ;)

I DID FORGET! I think I tried to block the negative experience out of my psyche.

I'll have to mention it when I get around to doing my next article that hopefully is NOT titled, "How I lost all my money holding BitUSD"!
