General Discussion / Re: Meanwhile - Ethereum quietly overtakes Litecoin
« on: January 24, 2016, 06:01:00 am »

Has Ethereum run into the same problems that we had i.e. running out of donation funds and having to resort to dilution to pay developers?

That should start to bite at some point.

No.  Their devs, like Bitcoins devs are paid by a centralized company who has significant backing.  It is called Consensys and the Eth team is paid directly by this wealthy benefactor out of New York City who owns the company.

So the talk about it being all decentralized compared to bitshares is illegitimate farse. :D

fuzzy , you're way out of date about your conspiracy theories . Eth team is directly paid by what's left of their IPO money , and consensys is a private company that provide technical solution to earn money for themselves . If the Eth team start to go rouge , there will be plenty of companies can balance it by providing redundant development force  .

You can choose not to believe it . But if you're gonna do a decent conspiracy theories , at least make claims that's not verifiable through open information . that's how conspiracy theories  usually works .

I don't think they're gonna .
Ethereum started to kick developers out and let them start their own business built around Ethereum .

And many of them have running quite well themselves , and raised funding themselves from other sources .

Finding jobs and building their own companies are much easier than to rebuild the reputation after destroying it by changing allocation model .

You have to wonder where all the money went, at least for AGS there was a public list of expenses. Here I can't help feel like it's all gone to travelling and "networking", which I'm sure has been productive but there's been talk of websites and a wallet being developed, did that actually happen?

Oh and TroopeerS, really? Sounds like something for 10 year olds imo, and it makes no sense for an international product.

my thought too ....
BTS money was crappy spent , but at least BTS did provided some failed product ( 1.0 )  and several versions of failed website .

I have no problem seeing failed work . but ...  at least there should be some failed work after one year , right ..

i'm not following . BitShares is not capable of second-development on the public chain . So even if on Azure , it would be doing private chain development , right .

We never stop working and spending our own resources to grow the ecosystem.

You may disagree on what we work on first, but it would be incorrect to say we are not working if someone is not "stuffing our pockets".    Our pockets are actually quite fat-free right now.  :)

Our key objective was to get the platform out there in the open so other people could build on it in parallel without waiting for us as the bottleneck.

Judging from the number of independent projects you can see being discussed, that seems to be working.

I spend most of my time supporting independent third parties with great ideas.  Some of them have since become well known here and others are still working on building teams and getting funding.

I expect to have more to say about this in a month or so - but Cryptonomex is increasingly just one of many ways to get things done.

As for change, what has changed since the big 2.0 upgrade which incorporated a year's worth of lesson's learned?

Market cap doesn't reflect underlying value because it takes research to see how much is going on here and many would rather just analyze short term chart wiggles.  Crypto capital is not stable.  It can move from trend to trend since it is not locked up like it is with normal startup investments.  Allocation of capital is not driven by fundamentals and speculators often sell following great news.  To take our price out of the hands of short term speculators we need to create other, more stable sources of demand.

And that means helping real businesses bring real services to real customers.  And each business will explain their own value proposition to their own customers in their own way.  Marketing BitShares is not "one size fits all".

So that's where we are focused -- building on top of BitShares and encouraging other's to do the same.

When is the last time you use a BitShares related service  :P ?

The suppose answer is not a lot .

But I highly doubt they will run a company whose profiting and even income related with BitShares without holding a lot of voting power(theirs and their friends') in their hand .

Just like you wouldn't buy a house when you don't know if you have a job next day .

General Discussion / Re: Hedge Fund Expects Massive 50% Yuan Devaluation
« on: January 21, 2016, 06:40:29 am »
I didn't see "predicts" in that article; the quote said China "should" devalue its currency. That actually would be great for the world economies if it happened, but my money is on slower responses.

not sure . if yuan devalues , China will have a better advantage exporting products , but higher expense to import products .
so those who want to sell things to China will be hurt .

Because people don't need crypto in general .

Because people only need blockchain technology , they don't necessary want to pay for a speculative object . Sooner or later , if people does want to use this tech , there will be companies build a platform using bitshares/ethereum/bitcoin code and disregard the allocation . And they will provide better development (really, someone want to tell me how awesome the team is that even Google throw out 100000 million USD they couldn't find 100 people like them ????  ), better service , better network effect  .

Speculation is the only thing that's keeping a easy-to-copy software code on tens of  millions of marketcap . Usage/applications on the news is just topic for speculation world .

And BitShares killed speculative drive on the ground of getting more users . Even merger, dilution , was an excuse to get more users (and pay for development in the process) .

But users are picky . They won't show up just because you can do 1 sec transaction or you claim you can dilute forever that you have enough development to add value . They like to go with a company that can provide nice service . Godaddy , ebay ..etc ....

Speculation and their capital/liquidity contribution is the only value in BitShares . Users' usage depends on the value that the speculators provides .

When you make speculators/capital scared to come in , you make marketcap low . When you make marketcap low , users won't have decent liquidity to use your service . It's all connected .

I think the only thing that can save BitShares now is cut cost , cut big dreams , big plans ,  stop and burn dilution , and use outside funding to fund basic development and let them pay for a common platform . Stop taking money from where there is no money to be taken . Find money in where is plenty of money.

And don't tell me about Bitcoin mining is the same as BItShares dilution . I know a lot of BItcoin miners shutdown their mining when the price is too low . But that's hardly happened in BitShares . When BTS price is low , the magic word is "dilute on market rate " .

I know bitcoin miners buy Bitcoin when the price is low . DO bitshares dilution do that ?

oops , I've become a FUDer . ....

General Discussion / Re: Bitcoins Chaos is an Opportunity?
« on: January 18, 2016, 06:09:58 am »
We've seen Bitcoin 2.0, Bitcoin Dark, Bitcoin Classic, Bitcoin XT, etc., etc.

How about we think up another Bitcoin name and launch it ourselves, promoting it as the successor?

Name ideas welcome. Some suggestions:

Better Bitcoin, Bitcoin Shares, Bitcoin STEALTH, Bitcoin X, Bitcoin Decentralized, Bitcoin OL, Bitcoin DEX, Bitcoin Gold, etc.

unless you are willing to map 1:1 of the bitcoin allocation , you're not a bitcoin fork , but a alt-coin

There is no Bitcoin Chaos .

The guy Mike Hearn wasn't even Bitcoin's core developer .

He's a part time developer who submitted a few lines of code on the Bitcoin full weight wallet (aka. Bitcoin-core ) .

So , he's a Bitcoin-core develop , but not bitcoin's core developer .

Manipulators just use the news to justify a dump .

It seems the media is a buzz so I am not entirely sure the average joe agrees.

The average joe will forget about this once the price recovers . Just like 3 months ago , the forking argument .

I dont understand how this makes it less opportune for us in the moment.  Open to hearing your thoughts though.

Bitcoin has "failed" so many times , there was never a real chance for any alt-coins to take its position.
As long as Bitcoin can be transferred , can be traded , that's good enough for the whole world .  They don't care about block size , etc , only tech geek think they should care .
The entire Bitcoin eco-system is based outside of the bitcoin software , no matter how many flaws the software has , the outside power can always keep people in the eco-system .

General Discussion / Re: Fees are a real problem for the DEX
« on: January 17, 2016, 06:16:20 pm »
The major problem -- which is actually in itself not a problem-- that the is not enough PR out there to explain bitshares, one of the reason seems to me is that everybody is still busy building and perfecting the product. Once that is eased a little , some resources should be allocated to advertising and displaying some real use cases. We all see what PR can achieve just as in DASH or some other products out there. None of them actually has what BitShares has.

Dash have active development and developed some cool stuff .
They can transfer money in 0.1 second using master nodes or whatever .
The Dash devs are known to "propose an idea and then finish it" .

A little birdie told me .
