DevShares / Re: DevShares ideas to consider before launch
« on: December 18, 2014, 04:16:54 pm »
DevShares will launch this week.  A snap shot of 33/33/33 AGS/PTS/BTS is being prepared by Toast.

Why do AGS+PTS get 33%?  Isn't 10% the 'social contract'?

Look opposite, AGS and PTS brings funds to toolkit development, I think 50/50 AGS/PTS will be more fair than 33/33/33  AGS/PTS/BTS :)
PS: 'Social contract' says not less than 10%, 33% not less than 10%

'Social contract' says not less than 10% for new DACS.  DevShares isn't a new DAC, it's a BTS test chain.  It's part of BTS.  This logic is infallible because otherwise it means the developers are working on something that is not BTS, which they said they wouldn't do.  Therefore DevShares must be part of BTS, so there's no reason to give 66% of BTS test-chain shares to non-BTS holders.

Is this unreasonable?

As a BTS test chain it should be 100% BTS, or 10% each to AGS + PTS for the sake of peace keeping, even though that in itself would mean it was a new DAC which is not supposed to be happening.

The nullstreet repository is practically completely empty, I could really use some big and impressive branding materials.

Bitasset icons.  We've got these:
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=4167.msg52384#msg52384

Which are good but they are just for bitUSD and aren't really big enough to use in many types branding.  We are branding a currency, it's really important that it looks stunning and captures people's imaginations.  We want people to see a bitUSD or bitCNY image and think 'woah, that is cool'.  Something futuristic and energetic, yet simple enough to be understood and strong enough to be trusted.

So we need to think about images of bitUSD coins and notes, bitCNY coins and notes, bitEUR coins and notes, bitGOLD coins and notes, just to start off with.  The images of the notes can double up as paper wallets.

For off-site branding we need graphics for the press to use, banner ads, graphics for bitshares blogs posts and threads on bitcointalk.  We need dazzling graphics with the bitshares logo on - bigger images, with shiny and abstract patterns on which represent the bitshares ecosystem, a bit like this kind of image:
http://bitshares.org/bitshares-prototypes-much-more-than-an-altcoin/ or this kind of thing:
https://www.facebook.com/officialbitshares/photos/a.408139679332800.1073741827.408134445999990/508672572612843/?type=1&theater

A question:  Do we want all bitasset icons or coin/note images to look basically the same but just with a different name + colour?  I think there needs to be a careful balance struck between distinctiveness of each bitasset's images and a shared theme with the "b" for BitShares on all of them.  There could be different levels of variation between different type of image.

So in summary we need sets of images for each bitasset.
- Coin image - moderate differences between each bitasset, e.g. size stays the same + "b", but different colour, thickness, possibly different fonts.
- Note image (+paper wallet) - overlapping theme, same size, different pictures on the notes (that's a whole discussion in itself)
- bigger banners, for ads and press (for BitShares + bitassets) - Can be very different for different bitassets (with a "b" on each bitasset images)
- smaller icons for use in white papers and less image-heavey explanations. - Can be basically the same for different bitassets with just colour differences.
- more 'accepted here' icons.
- Images uploaded to the repository individually and also in sets where they are likely to be used together (e.g. icons for all bitassets grouped into one image, like a 'vending machine' or game.)

Once all this is done we will have a gold mine of branding materials to use in all markets.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Disappointment and Hope - Delegates, Unite!
« on: December 16, 2014, 09:26:28 pm »
I've repeated over and over that most people are not voting to keep their funds safe.

Next version will have voter keys and we will start making voting a much bigger part of the culture.

I agree: do some work, let people believe you can, then ask money

If you don't has money
Why I trust a man can't make money

If you don't want spend your money
OK
Tell community how many money to do the first thing
We donate you the money to do

If you want 2500USD to do
Do you mean you will do after you have 100% delegate pay a month later?
Because now a delegate a month earn 2500USD

I did put in my own money, $1400 so far. ($1200 delegate fee + bitusd.com.ar domain + hosting).

Funds will be spend on:

Argentina campaign:

Reimbursal of the Buenos Aires meetup giveaway + video production cost (video coming soon, see photos of the event here http://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Argentina/photos/25792368/)
future bitUSD giveaways at meetups and video production in South America
bitUSD drops to online Argentine groups
Spanish translations of texts + video
Editing of Western marketing videos to target the Argentine market (western videos not yet produced)
Advertising campaign (banner ads, optionally adsense).
Press release

Western-marketing:
Sponsored sig space on bitcointalk
+ more if the budget allows it.

I can't give specific amounts to each yet as those decisions will be made as we go forward but the funds will be spread over these activities.  E.g.  The exact size of meetup groups is not predictable.  Successful aspects will be funded more, less successful aspects will funding cut.  I will measure results wherever possible.  E.g.  $300-400 bitUSD for a 1 month trial run on buying sig space on bitcointalk.  If it goes well, can increase funding for that next month.  If the conversions are not high enough, it will be dropped.

I will start by paying the local Argentina team for the giveaways + video production.  At some point I will pay myself back the registration fee, I wont do it straight away.

I've started a BitShares News thread on bitcointalk:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=895637.new#new

I'll keep posting regular updates in it using http://www.scoop.it/t/aboubts.

It's possible in SMF to have a forum category be an external link. Peershares does that.. see [Official Peercoin Thread on BitcoinTalk.org (External Link)] link on http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php#c2

Perhaps we could have the same, make boundaries porous and draw people both ways.

Nice idea.  I'll get started writing a post for a big official BitShares thread, which to my surprise doesn't seem to already exist on bitcointalk.  Aiming to have it up by this time tomorrow, then we can ask for it to be linked to directly from this forum.

I suggested yesterday engaging BTT - having forum here is all very well and this one does work but too many forums become circlejerks that noone else gets to appreciate. The market cap suggests something is working but we need to avoid complacency. I see no surprises from the voting presentation - an idea is all very well but bedding it down and becoming the biggest consensus out there, is all about convincing more people to engage with BitShares. Marketing needs a big voice - which is why there is disappointment with the official marketing team.. noone can hear them scream.

General Discussion / Re: Help Wanted in setting up a new DAC...
« on: December 16, 2014, 01:55:04 pm »
Here's a more detailed explanation for you Niel.  I hope this is more useful.

There are user issued assets (UIAs) which either your users could issue themselves (each issue their own currency) or crowdbucks could create its own UIA. UIAs can be used for many things including different types of crowdfunding.  e.g. A user could issue 100,000 project coins and put them up for sale at a fixed price, say, $1 per coin with the aim of raising $100,000.  Or the issuer may choose to keep a chunk for themselves to align their incentives with the investors.  The seller could pledge to offer buyers certain rewards.  This could be as formally contractual or informal as you wish (more legal legwork if a traditional "company" is raising funds).  The issuer has the power to pay dividends to the investors.   Smart contracts are an option in the future but it's not yet finished being developed on Bitshares.  These UIA features are actually still in development too but should be ready early next year.

Using bitUSD as the currency on the network gives the benefits of bitcoin with the stability of the USD.  The side effect is your users would have to be sent somewhere to buy it to get access to the network, but once they've done that they could participate easily in the ecosystem, buying UIAs with it, transferring bitUSD it instantly worldwide with virtually no fees, earning yield (variable interest rate).  It's a banking solution.  People can keep their money in bitUSD and earn interest while keeping it safe in a place it can't be confiscated, or have it value eroded by inflation, other than the inflation of that asset.  bitUSD tracks the price of the USD so it is just as stable as the USD.  1 bitUSD = 1USD.  So bitUSD could be the lubricant of the network and a savings account which gives people easy access to the crowdbucks network, if bitUSD was integrated as the standard currency on the network.

The other aspect is being a Bitshares gateway, which is explained here (document is a work in progress):

« on: December 15, 2014, 08:43:13 pm »

Do we have presence on BTT?.. perhaps more could be done to engage there?.. I hardly visit it now but perhaps there's a new generation to hook. What everyone needs perhaps is the next wave of Bitcoin buyers looking into what is beyond Bitcoin.

BTT = bitcointalk?  I've thought about running a low cost campaign of paying hand picked members for their sig space to promote Bitshares there.  Something else I would do once elected.

I can run a campaign, or get somebody to do so if needed; I am pretty active on BTCtalk.

I suggested the same when the Music fundraiser was ongoing.

Great, that will make it easier, I just need to get a few more percent of the votes and we can get started.

Let us launch other initiatives and assume nothing will come from the 'official' marketing.

That is what fran2k + elmato and I are going to do with the 3 month Argentina campaign.  It's time to vote for it if you want it.

General Discussion / Re: OIL. Let's get this asset going.
« on: December 15, 2014, 02:07:01 pm »
yhea ... as they "apparently" also did for bitUSD :)

It just depends who gets themselves publicly known by them first, to me BitAssets, imply decentralisation and we'll probably still hold the small crypto market, but our lack of marketing & not opening up BitOil/Silver and pushing BitGold may cost us the BitAsset brand in a few months as customers will be too confused between the two.

Could be a good BitAsset to start now. Let's not miss the OIL bus opportunity like these guys... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sLB-uMPj27s

Maybe bitreserve could accept our bitOIL 1:1 payment for their bitOIL? ... or could there be a gateway/integration of some kind?
