MemoryCoin / MMC forkerd!
« on: August 09, 2014, 11:04:11 am »
After mmcpool down, memorycoin was forked.
Dev's seed-nodes on different forks.
I have tried many times to redownload blockchain, and it stops always on block 56208

Some improvements on DwarfPool

1. It's possible to separate your workers without changing the wallet-id now. This allows to get personal vardiff, if you have many rigs located behind stratum-proxy.

To specify the workers just enough to add in username (which is as wallet-id now), a number after point: YOUR_WALLET . NUMBER

Example:
Code: [Select]
HA5FPuWibнvoqiMPeUVptyGAwqg7y7uV5C.1
 HA5FPuWibнvoqiMPeUVptyGAwqg7y7uV5C.2
 HA5FPuWibнvoqiMPeUVptyGAwqg7y7uV5C.3

The main way without number works as before.

2. Implemented a monitoring of your workers. In case of disconnection from all servers you get an email within 5 minutes.

To enable monitoring just run miner with an email instead of your password. To disable it enough to restart the miner without email as password.

Monitoring works for each worker and IP separately. With WORKER_ID you can separately monitor your rigs.

DwarfPool German quality you can trust!

3. Deployed a new server in Japan! eredluin.dwarfpool.com

For customers from Asia this will be faster than using our European or American server.

You should use the closest server to your location for best performance!

DwarfPool German quality you can trust!

This is a first. Finally some user friendly improvements to the pool.

I would still like to use worker names with characters instead of numbers.

YAM won't accept my email address as the password.
Currently there are only numbers.
Concerned your password I will redirect it to yam developer

in the interview with ghashio you can read, that they reduced their market share by themselves how I mentioned, because they didn't just want to make a profit out of the coin but to expand bitcoin community and develop the large bitcoin economic structure.

Well, of course it made sense for ghashio back then: PR attacks on them were undermining the bitcoin credibility and value itself, and they were heavily vested in bitcoin. Please note it was not them doing bad, but rather those attacking them. However, the MMC has something like a central authority by design: it is, naturally, the largest wallet in the system (save for bter perhaps who cannot bother playing voting :) ). This authority has already been executed on Newmine, and essentially nothing happened.

It isn't good to turn the subject ..

"Central authority by design" of voting in memoricoin is a little technical feature which is only interesting to some miners. But if you understood the point is, that success and value of coin do not depend on the miners, but on services and investors!
They prone to the influence of PR companies, NOT code is important in this context, but reputation of coin! if it is centralized at the POOL-LEVEL (do you realize the difference?) then the risk of fraud become very high, that means less confidence and interest.

Well, if you've mentioned the technical side, there is also no absolute certainty for investors in only one large pool
Just your article http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/658/what-can-an-attacker-with-51-of-hash-power-do
enlightens that the 51%-owner can prevent the confirmation of some transactions and so tricks.. ))

6
I'd suggest that you educate yourself about 51% attack actually: http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/658/what-can-an-attacker-with-51-of-hash-power-do

Or are you well aware and just spreading FUD? :)

I am well aware and I'm just wondering, why you can't catch the sense of an "attack 51%"..

The sense of the cryptocoin is that it could not be controled by any centralized organization. If an attack 51% was to be carried out, the reputation damage would be irreparable, calling into question the reliability of coin as a universal means of payment. It would undermine confidence in the coin and destroy its value.
Investors are not interested in technical details. Cryptocoins as an innovation system is just highly vulnerable to emotional state of the users.

You know how it works for ordinary users (95%) that's enough to undermine the confidence in a service etc.(for example by dint of an attack..) and it is under distrust in spite of the fact that it is the best one.

I do not suggest, just if you want to expand your knowledge in this subject educate this for the beginning:

http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2014/01/09/warning-ghash-io-nearing-51-leave-pool/
http://www.heavy.com/tech/2014/01/ghash-io-51-percent-attack-bitcoin/
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-miners-ditch-ghash-io-pool-51-attack/
http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2014/01/ghash/

in the interview with ghashio you can read, that they reduced their market share by themselves how I mentioned, because they didn't just want to make a profit out of the coin but to expand bitcoin community and develop the large bitcoin economic structure.

I have tested the stratum server: not quite working yet, however I could give you some sympathy for how many getwork requests that pool owners are receiving.

My stratum server crashes after a minute or two of running, and none of the shares get submitted from stratum+tcp://moria.dwarfpool.com:3334
I'm sorry, how can you test stratum?
Stratum works on pool because the stratum is the core of pool, and getwork is just proxy for stratum.
We don't have stratum-clients currently.. it is just in development

8
s, how does adding other alt-coins to the pool server affect server load?
not at all

9
The pool is occasionally reports slower HPM speeds for me.

I am losing 20-40% of my hashing power to this inefficiency.

My payouts are not affected but it is unlikely that I will continue to stay at this pool if the pool cannot process my shares while other powerful miners transfer over to this pool.

You do not lose any % of your power! The server stats only displays the rough approximate speed on the main page. But your payouts are calculated on the real sent shares.
Please, see it at your example. You get about 90hpm, that is ca.100 coins a day according to the calculator.
You mined incomplete 3 days, according to the calculator that makes 250 coins as a solo-miner, minus 2%fee =245coins. This compares with your payout 247MMC.

By the way, the DwarfPool is the most transparent pool, there is the most detailed and open statistic, no stealing shares and no hidden fees!

No matter what pool is, the miner's get the same mined coins. On the large pool you get often but less, on the small one rarely but more.
Profit depends on the pool fee, for instance, the middle-"big" miner(5khpm) could save around 500$/month by dwarfpool due to difference fees.

>if the pool cannot process my shares

The pool processes all your shares! Some shares are rejected on every pool, this it through an old getwork protocol used by pools.

I started the pool because of my sympathy to algorithm of memorycoin.
but the danger of extinction of coin is big because of too high concentration of the network hashrate on the one pool. if the system is compromised, there is not much faith in a coin and no big interest on buying it. This also can be one of the reasons why memorycoin is not accepted on the stock exchanges. At the moment the price falls, as well as difficulty of mining, minus 30% for 2 weeks means leakage on miners..

The same happened to bitcoin when ghashio almost closed to 51%, the pool cut down its power for itself.

Pool owner, Please,
read this.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1976.msg50002#msg50002

I am very tempted to just hop to the luckiest pools to grab the most amount of MMC.

We got two blocks with ~5k shares and now we're up to 27k shares.
With this capacity at the pool it was still a good luck to find two blocks, especially in such a short time. I already explained in other thread, because of the small capacity you have to look at a whole period of time, but not at a statistics for some hours. Generally, our pool with such dimension finds the blocks within the normal rate

thanks, I'll have a look at your link the next time

90-100HPM has joined the pool!
You are welcome!  :)

12
why is the HPM displayed on the pool is different than HPM displayed by the miner?
The server stats displays the rough approximate speed and based on the speed of the sent shares.
Miner-client shows the own stats based on the real inner calculations.

what is the server config the worker MLkkYvuqdTGfcBuyCc2UVhNuK585X4GLMS is using to get 98 HPM?
It is not a server config, but the rigs with radeon-videominers (link to videominer in the first post of this topic)

Hmm... I was showing 2800HPM, running 100 machines with 30HPM each showing in client. Now it's showing 1500HPM, that can't be right, I wonder if they switched to another server.
But afterwards you've disabled it manually..

Unfortunatelly you havn't found any blocks during your work, this is because there was only a few capacity at the pool. Our power was never more than 5% from the network hashrate (even with your HPMs), while the other get ca.90% and 10%.
Too high concentration of power at a pool means a negligibly small probability to find a block for the other one.

I'd suggest we three (with "MFH4DrpkfWWfFRvtdu6TJuT4D8txKAKM6b" with his 2K HPMs) try the same HPMs at the same time. The idea is, we'll be able to reach the "one-block-in-one-hour" level.

The system works correctly, I didn't change anything there, but three blocks were found for last hours. If there is a pool with a few capacities you have to look at a whole period of time -a day (with a constant speed!), but not at a stats for two-three hours.

For example, the earning coins of working hours of "MFH4DrpkfWWfFRvtdu6TJuT4D8txKAKM6b" conside with calculator.
But it works only by the same speed the whole day.
