I would say that the definition of a stakeholder fits well with what BM is talking about. The definition and application of stakeholder almost perfectly align with the overall view of the community.

A corporate stakeholder can affect or be affected by the actions of a business as a whole. The stakeholder concept was first used in a 1963 internal memorandum at the Stanford Research Institute. It defined stakeholders as "those groups without whose support the organization would cease to exist."

Stakeholders:Stakeholder's concerns: Applications
Government - taxation, VAT, legislation, employment, truthful reporting, diversity, legalities, externalities.
Employee - rates of pay, job security, compensation, respect, truthful communication.
Customers - value, quality, customer care, ethical products.
Suppliers - providers of products and services used in the end product for the customer, equitable business opportunities.
Creditors - credit score, new contracts, liquidity.
Community - jobs, involvement, environmental protection, shares, truthful communication.
Trade Unions - quality, worker protection, jobs.
Owner(s) -profitability, longevity, market share, market standing, succession planning, raising capital, growth, social goals.
Investors   return on investment, income.

How is a stakeholder looked at in the eyes of the law? I would say that we are all more or less stakeholders in a Distributed Autonomous Community. I think this would also offer the easiest branding switch to make without confusing the hell out of people even more than Bitshares already does. Having a stake in this new community is more important to me than a share in some distributed autonomous corporation.

Thank you for clarification on user-issued assets.

What would determine the value of the user-issued asset in this scenario? Would the value ultimately be tied to the performance of the company? How would that be handled contractually?

And why are they not just issuing a user-issued asset and sell their 2B shares? I don't see the need for a separated chain and I also don't see how this can be a DAC?
do you already know about the differences bitween
 - market pegged assets
 - user-issued assets
in bitshares-x?

I know about market pegged assets, but I have not heard of user-issued assets.

why not just simply use bitUSD?

Because they are interested in the concept of issuing shares using blockchain technology, and they understand the value of early adopters. They would want their own set of assets to trade like the would if they were on the stock market. They are private and at some point I am sure they will go public. Why not go public with Bitshares, and leverage those assets within the transportation community?

They wouldn't invest 50% of their revenue, but they could choose to public with 50% of the shares. To be honest I don't know what they are valued at, because they are currently a privately owned company. They are on the cutting edge of technology in the industry but I would still have to be very convincing, and present a solution with bulletproof logic. I was just using a hypothetical situation to help me understand what the correct approach would be. They would need easy exchange to fiat, and that would be a deal breaker. This is very important from a usability standpoint because the industry isn't highly technical.

General Discussion / Bitshares Tranz
« on: October 08, 2014, 04:37:54 am »
Today I had an interview with a freight company that does $500 million in revenue each year, and they are growing at a very rapid pace. They are the leading TMS in the industry, and they were looking for a product manger to help build better tools. Somehow we got on the topic of cryptocurrencies and the recent announcement about Overstock issuing stock on the blockchain. One of the questions that he asked me is how they could create a currency that is used by the transportation industry. The transportation industry in America is fairly antiquated, and fees for Comchecks and transfers are extremely high. So I talked to them about the Bitshares community and all the great things that have been created by the developers. Below is what I told him would probably be the best idea for creating a stable currency that could be used as a means of exchange in the industry. If what I am saying is off base, please tell me how you would achieve the goal of stable currency that could be implemented in the industry.

Company A creates a DAC using Bitshares technology. They take 50% of the companies equity and use it to issue 2 million Bitshares Tranz. The new DAC would have an initial Market Cap of $250,000,000 or half of the companies value. Each share would be valued at $125 at the time of the IPO, but would initially increase due to speculation. Company A then creates a dollar pegged asset called BitTranz that would be used as a currency for the transportation industry. BitTranz would be integrated into their software platform as a payment system to be used as a stable and cheap means of exchange between brokers and carriers. The software platform would include an exchange for entering and exiting the market, and an option to automatically convert to fiat if the carrier so chooses. The value of Bitshares Tranz would increase and decrease based on the performance of Company A and speculation.

Please let me know if my logic is correct. If it is not please advise what you would do in this situation, because they sounded very interested in pursuing something like this. I have thought for awhile about a cryptocurrency for the Transportation industry, but lack the technical understanding to see it through. I love what the Bitshares community is doing, and I am very interested in your feedback. Please let me know if this is a viable concept.

Thank you all for your answers. My wallet seems to lose sync if it is inactive when I am gone. Sometimes it can take a few hours to sync again. As a not-so-technical user I see how this would be very frustrating for new users. What are the odds that a platform like Coinbase could emerge to make it easy for non-technical users? Something that could automatically convert any assets or equity to BitUSD when a merchant transactions takes place. IMO one of the major issues with all cryptocurrencies is the psychological barrier of the decimal place. Average users have a hard time processing information to the right of the decimal point, because they have always used the numbers to the left in commerce. Do you see an online wallet and vault in the near future? I wonder if Marc Andreessen would fund it?

What happens when the BTSX blockchain becomes 10 years old? Would it take a really long time to sync with the blockchain for a new wallet?

General Discussion / Re: Importing PTS-AGS and claim BTSX

When I try to import my PTS wallet into the BTSX client I get an error that says: The wallet spending key must be unlocked before executing this command (0) The wallet spending key must be unlocked before executing this command.

My BTSX wallet also says that it is not connected in the lower right hand corner.

I also get the error: RPC Server Error: In method "blockchain_list_assets': Assert Exception 10

Delegates are not just in the US, isn't that the point of a decentralized system? They can't arrest everyone.

Technical Support / Re: Investing now to live from dividends in 4 years

I would disagree on that as the (really) poor don't have ANY savings. Most people on this planet buy food with the majority of what they earn or plant their foods themselves. Inflation would be good for them as it redistributes the money (in relative terms) that others made from capital intensive investments. But on the other side inflation makes economies inefficient which is bad for anyone again...

While inflation is certainly redistributive, this does not mean that it redistributes to the (really) poor.  Even if it did, once that happens inflation will immediately turn against them until they're back to zero again.  In any economy with non-zero friction and barrier to entry for serious investment, inflation will tend to redistribute from those struggling to overcome the barrier to those already well above it.  The better solution is to work to reduce economic friction and barriers to entry, as well as redistribution, not to try to redraw the lines so redistribution works in your favor.

I don't understand how inflation has re-distributive properties, can you please explain how this happens? The only redistribution that I am aware of is governments taxing their working population, then redistributing it based on income or ability to produce. The only way to end poverty that I am aware of is through education which leads to economic development. Sound money can have a huge impact on poverty, because money is needed to create an environment that is conducive to development. As far as poverty is concerned education and knowledge is the only way out. IMO

Muse/SoundDAC / Re: Revolution in music. How would one go about it?
« on: February 09, 2014, 10:52:32 pm »
I do not know how simple this would be, but it would be cool to create an "Independent Record Label" which funded the development and promotion of artists by creating a DAC. Imagine how lively that discussion forum would be. You would literally have a battle of the bands to figure out who to fund, and artists would be signed under the distributed label. This would be taking the American Idol concept to a whole new level. I wouldn't think that you would create a new DAC for each artist..right??
