General Discussion / Cleartracks, anyone see it?
« on: December 02, 2015, 08:25:44 pm »
https://www.cleartracks.com/cleartracks/insidetracks/23/cleartracks-now-accepting-bitcoin-at-checkout

There are ads for it on Reddit. It's not Peertracks but remarkable in how it's being marketed while Peertracks doesn't seem to have any Reddit ads.

When will we see OpenLeger, Bitshares or similar Reddit ads? If OpenLedger is a decentralized exchange where are the ads?

I read somewhere for example that many people are trying to encourage CCEDK to put a gambling link into OpenLedger. While I'm not against advertising which includes gambling, I don't want to see the Bitshares community make the same mistakes of the Bitcoin community.

Psychic costs include for example the lack of privacy. Many people will not use Bitshares if all their transactions are public because it adds an additional layer of stress and concern. Transparency has a psychic cost.

Psychic costs include legally controversial features, and it is for this reason that Bitshares should never be directly associated with gambling. Doing so would create unnecessary psychic costs for the Chinese while offering nothing that Bitshares community users can't do off the blockchain. In addition it also brings risks to the developers even in the United States, and could be misconstrued in the same way that Augur was presented as as "The greatest gambling platform in history".

In my opinion part of the design of Bitshares, from the interface, to compartmentalization, to unnecessary legal risk reduction, all can contribute to lowering psychic costs. Lowering psychic costs can increase the rate of mass adoption. To market Bitshares and make it successful will require allowing people to use it guilt free, to use it with low psychic costs, at least as low as Twitter or Facebook. And finally the Bitshares team should figure out ways to increase the psychic benefits, this would make Bitshares sticky, and just like Facebook and Twitter offer psychic rewards and other intangible benefits, Bitshares will have to do similar.

Quote
In managerial economics, economists examine the issue of psychic costs and benefits.[1] An example of a psychic cost is the guilt that a US-restaurant-goer feels if they do not make a voluntary tip to a waiter. There is no requirement for the client to give the tip, but if they do not, they may feel bad when they leave; to avoid this psychic cost, people are inclined to tip, even if the service was sub-standard. On the other hand, a psychic benefit occurs when one of the rewards of an action or choice are non-monetary.

How will the semantic web and blockchain change the concept of the firm, the corporation, business, and allow us to achieve prosperity?

General Discussion / Now is a good time to tell people about BTS.
« on: November 09, 2015, 09:13:11 pm »
From the look at the price it's at the cheapest price it's ever been, even cheaper than it was at the Protoshares stage. Anyone buying now would be buying in at the early adopter prices.

And eventually the price is going to go way up again, just as it did with Bitcoin, Litecoin and any of the others. As long as the developers continue to add utility, improve UX, improve the UI, these low prices will not be sustainable.

At the same time Ethers are cheap also, but at $1 people might not get as much ROI as they could get in BTS. This makes BTS as underpriced as it is, a very good buy at this time. At the same time if anyone can earn it, it would be very wise to hold onto it.

I did some math, and Ethereum could someday be $50 or $100 each if the market cap gets high enough and it probably will. Bitshares on the other hand could someday reach 50cents to $1 each, with a reasonably high market cap. This would mean you could acquire potentially $200,000 worth of Bitshares for the price of 1 Bitcoin?

You would think every Bitcoin holder who has more than a few Bitcoins would put at least 1 BTC into Bitshares, but it is likely the Bitcoin distribution is extremely centralized, and this would explain why we don't see that. On the other hand with a fiat onramp you might not need BTC to acquire BTS and if people are willing to earn BTS you also don't need BTC to acquire BTS.

The rise of Ethereum, SAFE Network, NXT and others will also have interesting implications for BTS. Altcoin holders might be more likely to diversify, and individuals who feel that Bitcoin is too expensive might be more likely to diversify as they have in the past.

A prediction I'll make is that December-Janurary will be the best months to acquire large stakes in BTS. Save your money for those months.

Let's create a thread of best practices for referral marketing, and for buzz marketing.

Experts who can prove they've made a lot of referrals can step up and share what works.

Chinese friends, please translate all posts on the referral program into Chinese. It is of my opinion that the Chinese marketing campaigns will be the most important.

General Discussion / Facebool mobile app ads
« on: October 28, 2015, 07:17:19 pm »
The suggested apps work very well and could be used for Bitshares mobile ads.
Where is the Bitshares Android/IOS app?

Money should be set aside for an aggressive ad campaign or two.

General Discussion / My Wealthy Affiliate
« on: October 23, 2015, 05:12:31 pm »
A training site which seems geared toward affiliate marketers.
Something like this could be useful for the Bitshares community at some point.

Is this like what Max is working on with Success Council??

Two methods which could bring in whales. The ability to borrow through the bond market, and crowd sales. Bitshares is capability of doing both.

This means in a crowd sale in theory an individual would be able to borrow Bitcoins to invest in the crowd sale. If after the crowd sale the price is higher then they can take their profit, pay off their debt, etc.

How far away are we from these sorts of usage patterns? How far way is the bond market from implementation? Do the bonds pay interest? If they pay interest wouldn't that be reason enough to hold lots of Bitshares?

General Discussion / Bitshares 2.0 will be tax free in EU
« on: October 23, 2015, 04:45:53 am »
http://cointelegraph.com/news/115447/breaking-eu-court-rules-bitcoin-exchange-is-tax-free

So this might have some impact on the fee debate. When you consider the fact that taxes are lower for certain demographics they might be willing to pay higher fees. At the same time Americans also will gain exposure to global opportunities, while today it's very difficult for Americans to invest in Chinese stocks. Americans on the other hand also might have lower taxes depending on what they trade and how courts treat it.

These are all selling points. People in the USA rely on ETFs specifically because it's more tax efficient.

General Discussion / Use optional ad revenue to lower fees.
« on: October 21, 2015, 01:45:54 pm »
A person who wants lower fees should be given the option to accept advertisements. In exchange their fees could be lowered and the ad revenue could go toward purchasing and burning BTS.

I notice many participants in China and other places expect it to be free or nearly free. Offer a freemium model for people who want lower fees but do not lower the profits of Bitshares. All transactions should be paid for one way or another.

Technical Support / Still cannot import wallet
« on: October 17, 2015, 11:04:36 pm »
Cannot import,  after some failed attempts now it shows when importing the keys empty balances, and says the wallet has already been imported, only this is not true or somehow the balances are missing.

In windows
Cli wallet also gives an underlying transport error but the witness node appears to set up just fine. In any case something is going wrong in the cli wallet and it looks like it doesn't connect.

Could it be some sort of firewall setting?

An email sent by them is saying they are shutting down.

Quote

    Dear MasterXchange customer,

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing we
are going to shut down the exchange in a few weeks.
It was a great adventure for us, filled with a lot
of challenges, that taught us a lot and was very rewarding.

The cryptocurrencies ecosystem has changed a lot since
we launched in december 2013, and we are facing a lot
of competition. With shrinking revenues, we are not
able to provide the quality of service we have always
thrived for and so we decided to move on to other projects.

Please check your account balances and withdraw your
coins before November 15th 2015. Passed that day,
    we will not guarantee anything.

We are still very confident in the long run success
of Bitcoin and will stay actively implicated in the
    Crypto Currencies ecosystem.

We stored millions worth of your mastercoin and
maidsafe and were never hacked. We did our best
    to provide a quality service.

We want to thank you all for your loyalty and
trust and wish you all the best for the future.

    Best regards,

    Emilien Dutang
    Adrien Lafuma

This is actually one of the better exchanges in terms of interface, ease of use, etc.  If they are shutting down it is an opportunity for someone in the Bitshares community to take the front end and run it through Bitshares on the backend while also keeping the Mastercoin/Omni backend.

The idea of having both an Omni/Bitshares hybrid exchange hasn't been done, but I don't see why it couldn't be. MasterXchange has good brand recognition, a loyal customer base, but as the email said the market is very competitive now.
