General Discussion / Re: New bitshares.tv video

Very fresh presentation!  +5%

Weired thing: If you move (your face) there is a quite noticeable drag. It makes the picture in the area where things (your head mostly) blurry.

I noticed it too, but could not fix it.  It was an iMovie thing..   I might go back to recording in screenflow.

I think the reason it i unlikely is the lack of leverage in the bts system.

Consider with $1million dollars you can control half a billion dollars worth of gold on the COMEX.   That is why in those markets the tail wags the dog. ie:The paper price of gold dictates the physical price of gold.

On BTS 1 million dollars would only allow you to control $500k of gold at best.   There is no chance of the tail wagging the dog on bts. But even if it did, then the COMEX and other markets demonstrate that when paper products out number physical supply the markets still function.... until they don't.

In the 4th video "How do bitAssets like bitUSD work?"  @ time: 8:00  you mention DPoS  and a prior video describing it.   In this video series I don't recall a prior DPoS explanation video.  Perhaps your referencing some other video outside the series?  If so maybe add a clickable link to that video or  insert the missing video into the series.

I've only watch the series twice now so I may have missed the DPoS explanation.

Great work by the way.   +5%

You are correct.  DPOS will actually come later in the series and the and the proper vid 4, instead of this place holder reflects that fact.

If it is because I have been there before can you tell me (perhaps via pm) how to reset that.  I intend to make several getting started videos and need to repeat that process.

I don't think this is because you've been there. Very strange issue - I'm looking into this.
By a chance, do you have any ad block installed?

That was it. Good thinking. I disabled adblocker plus and the site appeared as it should.  That is a popular piece of software though.  IS there something you can do?

1. So I downloaded the latest bitshares client direct from github and as soon as I downloaded it and went to log in it said there was a patch I needed to download.  Is this a legit patch?  I would normally have trusted an internal client message but I was just playing with the webwallet and started to doubt it.

As long as you downloaded the official 0.6.2 client it's a legit GUI patch.

Thank you Vikram.

2. When I go to the faucet page in any browser, I do not see the buttons to register (eg: facebook, reddit, etc)  I have seen the problem before in Firefox and switching to chrome solved my problems.   Now I get the same problem in all browsers.

Did you go to the faucet directly or from the wallet?
Probably you've already used to the faucet to register another account, in this case it should show you a warning - "you are running out of your free account registrations"
Thanks.

I have used the faucet before and thought that perhaps that was the issue.  I deleted the faucet cookie and still had no joy...

Here is what I get as soon as I click on faucet in the webclient

Thank you.

YouTube now has the ability to add links on the mobile client. I would suggest adding links at the end of the video for mobile viewers.

Can you be more specific please.  I am not quite following

At the the end of the video when you click here (somewhere on the video) to continue, the links do no show when viewing on a phone or tablet. YouTube added a feature where those links would be active on phone. I'm not sure if it availaible for everyone or still in beta for a few.

Ah ok.  I will put the links i the description as a back up for now.  If you figure out what it is called or an find a video explaining let me know.  Thanks.

May I make a suggestion?

Being the media contact is exactly what I would like to be doing for bitshares.  Positioning and messaging is one of my strong suits and I think I would be good at it, perhaps even as good as Dan and he would be free to spend his time on tasks with more value.

I am not sure if I have Dan's star power and so Journo's may not be as excited to talk to me as they are him, but I think that would change in time.

What do you think?  Should be put on the site as the media contact and allow journo's to come straight to me?

i like it.  +5%
but pls use a better camera
360p isn't enough these days

+5% Maybe just an encoding error? I'm pretty sure you had better quality in previous videos.

Defo encoding error.   And mostly because I lost my editor and I had to do the final edits.  I don't have the software to do it right, but it was driving me insane not getting these videos up faster.   Hopefully if Edilliam has the bandwidth he can make them final touches and replace them.

Feedback welcome.
Woah great! Edit: The longer I watch the more powerful the message. You are doing a great job at that!

Is that the bitshares 101 book word by word (1:1)?

Edit: Just watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC1cDPLjAyY&list=PLjgfpSQFJTLpKmTGCG8FjvDFbfst6F-x5&index=3&feature=iv&src_vid=kWpV-5Z8FuM&annotation_id=annotation_158859345 .... I would really like to thank you Max for producing these videos. They are a great resource to point to in a discussion!!

Feedback for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC1cDPLjAyY&list=PLjgfpSQFJTLpKmTGCG8FjvDFbfst6F-x5&index=3&feature=iv&src_vid=kWpV-5Z8FuM&annotation_id=annotation_158859345:
- You say BitGLD instead of what is written on the screen (BitGOLD).
- BitEUR has a white background unlike the other bitassets without a reason.
- Min 12.36 "...you put in more security to cover your position, that is called a margin call". As far as I understand a margin call is when the collateral is given to the other party in case the price of the collateral falls to much. That doesnt sound like what you described a margin call to be... Wouldnt a margin call equate to what you said after that: Giving the 50USD to me and I can guy a new contract with it?
-16:30 "...to be released into the ether?" :)

Feedback to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNCgG2goP7E&list=PLjgfpSQFJTLpKmTGCG8FjvDFbfst6F-x5&index=4&feature=iv&src_vid=yC1cDPLjAyY&annotation_id=annotation_3734053241
- different background was on purpose?
- since I watched the previous video which was about how derivative contracts work and I now have the impression that a bitasset is such a contract I do not yet know how a bitasset becomes a stable crypto currency. That transfer has not been done for me...This video just states that bitassets are stable crypto currencies as opposed to the impression about bitaasets I got from the last video.
- 2.20 the term "bitshares" is used in the sense of BTS the token... I think that is not yet clear to the viewer. I guess the viewer that doesnt know much about crypto currencies associated bitshares with "bitshares the project / the overall name for the whole thing". I would like to see the viewer being reminded that bishares are the shares in the Bitshares company.
- 4:00 the term private key is introduced. The newcomer probably doesnt know what that is and why its important though it is critical to what a crypto currency like Bitcoin and BitUSD has to offer. Not everything can be explained at the same time but maybe that is inspiration for what crypto currencies in general have to offer. Maybe that would have the potential to go viral in the bitcoin community if it is done well and this way would bitcoiners find their way to the rest of the bitshares.tv videos :)
- 5:04: You say "When sally comes along THEY.."
- Around 9.20 it could be mentioned that the price feed results of the MEDIAN price feed from all delegates that produce one. That is a significant argument why the price feed can not be manipulated!

Thank you for all the feedback.

Not word for word.  After watching it in video I saw there were parts I could chop out which I did.  ie: there is more content in the book.

What is bitshares video. Bitgld changed its branding to bitgold after recording.  bitEuro is blue and gets lost in the background without the white fog. You are correct on margin call definition I think, but I will not be able to change that easily.   I might be stuck with that error for the forseeable future.

What is bitUSD video. It was not deliberate to change background... And those errors you mention (I think) are all corrected in a re-release of this video that hopefully I will have soon. Actually I have to make an edit to the original post... I selfishly forgot to acknowledge the editor.  Put that down to tiredness.

Edit: I want to acknowledge and thank Edilliam for doing all of the editing on videos 1-3 for nothing more than the love of bitshares. I believe he intends to run a delegate as our video editor.  What Cass is to graphics, Edilliam would like to be for video editing.   You might want to send him some love next time you are speaking with him.

Unfortunately he was unable to dedicate the resources to finish off the project by the deadline, but hopefully he will soon and I can
1. Replace video 4 as the place holder,
2. Get a higher quality rendered version of the first 3 videos and,
3. Get the remainder of the videos up very soon.

General Discussion / Re: Instead of adding BitShares to a Bitcoin wallet...
« on: February 28, 2015, 01:53:49 am »
Can you feel it???  We are tantalizingly close to biggest crypto home run since bitcoin itself.

As most on this thread are already very astute too...  Messaging and positioning is critical.  I would brand it a whole new thing(Coinstamp for example) and it would be a "decentralized bitcoin exchange."  The experience would actually be just like going to bitfinex.

You would deposit bitcoin.  Your account would say you have bitcoin, just like bitfinex says even though what you really have is bitfinexbitcoin. The difference is Coinstamp coin is really bitbtc and it is real time cryptographically provably solvent.  You can use your imagination for the rest.   If bitfinex/bitstamp/btc-e make no distinction between their IOU's and the real thing why should we?  The catch is stealing their liquidity.  When bitfinex started, they used bitstamp liquidity to get themselves up and running.   Apart from some simple GUI stuff, that is the final piece.   And of course and USD/bitUSD gateway.
