I don't think you can but you should be able to see from one of the instances on one of your machines the total shares made from all machines and total earned.

Actually that can be seen on any of the machines running with the same wallet you added.

So if I run this on several machines (with the same payment address), is there any way to track the status of those machines? And the balance that shows up, will that be from all machines combined?

It should work, you could do a quick test and find out but mining 32 bit is not as fast as 64 bit.

I don't know if it is possible with the client, but in a future edition if you had the ability to see your total hpm or 10 min average, that would help detect rigs that may have dropped offline. True idle worker notification I'm sure could only come with a web front end to the pool.
