Why isn't there a BitShares web wallet?

You mean this? It's available for Windows and Mac. Mobile version is on the way.

Well I mean more along the lines of Counterwallet or something only supported in the browser. My main computer is a Chromebook and I've had trouble installing the BitShares client on Windows in the past.... plus I've seen a lot of posts where people lost their BTSX or BTS. So I guess I'm waiting for a more lightweight web-based client.

Thanks for your help -- I went to the link and saw that I'm not alone on this. See at: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=12099.0

A new version of the wallet is coming out this week. Maybe that will fix it.

Thanks again,

Shroud

If you post in the Technical Support sub, you'll get help from someone smarter than me.

I did as you suggested -- downloaded the latest Windows version found at the link. I think it's the version I had before, but in any case it didn't help -- no transactions show and my balance is still zero.  Also it takes an ominously long time to open. I'm using Windows Vista on a HP laptop I bought in 2008.

Make sure you are running the latest client. Older versions may not work. If you have trouble, then make a copy of the wallet, delete everything, and then re-install. If you sent funds, then they will show up. They have not disappeared, but you will only see them once the software works for you.

Download current client: http://bitshares.org/downloads/

Thanks for the reply. I did send a small amount of btsx to the bitshares wallet as a test. Coinport accepted the transaction instantly, but the amount never showed up in the wallet. Now the wallet won't open at all -- isn't it still in beta? I think until the wallet opens regularly without having to reset the database (which it has done several times now), I'll just keep the btsx in Coinport.

BTSX was renamed to BTS. It is the BitShares currency. Please download the BitShares wallet and you can transfer it there.

I have bought some BTSX on the Coinport exchange. Where should I keep them? Can I send them to the downloadable Bitshares client-wallet that was launched this year? It provides a  public address to use, but frankly I'm not sure that Bitshares is compatible with BTSX.
