Problem is my client always starts over at 240 days of blocks to download when clicking 'Continue'.

What system do you run it on? I actually ran a test on windows 8, with the gui client, it never crashed after being left on for over a month. Though I didn't do anything with it, just left it running.

Problem is my client always starts over at 240 days of blocks to download when clicking 'Continue'.  Then it crashes at least once every two days.  Is there a preventive measure offered by those who have no problems?  (I'm waiting on 8 GB RAM to come in mail to upgrade from 4GB, already on SSD)

Yes back up the chain folder, but you don't have to replace it every time you crash, just click continue and see if anything goes wrong. If everything works normally, then it's not necessary to replace the chain folder. In my personal experience, resetting the chain data is rarely needed.

Try click 'continue' rather than 'reset' after a crash.

Make a backup of the 'chain' folder is OK. The 'wallet' folder is important, always make a backup before overwrite it.

How do I prevent the need to redownload the whole blockchain after a crash?  Can I just backup the appdata folder and replace it everytime the wallet has an error?
