To make it clear: it's not necessary to register an account. That's why the total number of accounts is bigger than number of registered accounts. Unregistered account looks something like bitcoin address, it's not a name but a bunch of random characters.

If a sub account name with a "." never gets approved by the parent, it will receive an error when you try to register it.

Many accounts are not registered on the blockchain,  just like bitcoin addresses.

Problem with the accounts!! Help!
I've been looking at the bitshares distribution on bitsharesblocks.com and something doesn't add up
it say's that there are 122686 with 10 BTS or more HOWEVER?
 there are only 90359 accounts registered
What's going on here?
