I'm also not on the book of faces, but I understand the desire for relatively easy authentication / mass adoption.  I guess we just have to create the next big social network so you'll be compelled to switch. ;)
Just make a fake Facebook account to use for login. Don't use it for anything else. The next big sociel network should be decentralized and the add profits gose to the members.

I agree.  That's a good way to do it for those that are allergic to Facebook.   You can just use it for authentication.  It takes resources to set up authentication, prevent spam,  create password recovery, provide security etc.   Just think of it as taking advantage of Facebook.    But it's a fair exchange.  They get to pad/inflate their 'daily active user' number to investors while people are actually using bitCash and other 3rd-party apps.   :)

... Our simple wallet will use Facebook authentication to make it extremely easy so in some ways will have slightly less ''personal & contextual privacy' than Bitcoin...

I refuse to use facebook.  Will you have other means of authentication?  Basic email sign up?

Eventually there will probably be an email option, but unfortunately right now with limited resources and our goal to get mass adoption we need to rely on Facebook.  They have a billion daily active users which is pretty unbelievable, but we plan to piggy back off them.   I think probably 10-20% of 'active users' are for authentication only and for convenience and not that many people use Facebook.  For authentication purposes, Facebook doesn't get much info at all from third-party apps.  I understand we'll probably lose 10-20% of the crypto crowd, but we have to make the trade-off right now with limited resources.

Yeah that would work.  Telegram is a good open-source protocol...

I would also need an alternative to Facebook for authentication.

Yeah when we have more resources we can probably put together a complementary website with the same UI/UX that allow various other auth methods,  but from a UI/UX perspective limited options makes it much easier for the average person so the main website will be very minimalist.

Same. They gave me teh ban hammer after posting some "police state" stuff. It didn't hurt my feelings at all and I actually still cherish the moment. ;)

Yeah there are a lot of terrible things with Facebook and I used to feel icky using it, but I got over it because as long as you don't post personal info (and tell your friends not to) they can't do much.   I just use it for convenience and authentication.  The US version of BTC38 does a good job of being user-friendly and they use FB only.

i am curious for your first design drafts of the wallet.

@Chris4210X Welcome to the club!

We'll probably try to introduce some brief screen flows in the short introduction video.  We'll see how soon we can get that out.

@bang-king  Welcome to the club!

Very cool!!

You're the man @xeroc!  Welcome to the club and let's collaborate for Europe down the road!

The Chateaux Endeavour Joint is ready to cooperate with you.

#sharebits “merivercap“ 1 CHATEAUX

@38PTSWarrior Great to have you on board and we should collaborate for some grassroots outreach!  And merci beaucoup for the *chateaux*!  Does this represent the spiritual castle we reside in?

High  +5%. Count me in.

High  +5% back to you and thanks!  Welcome to the club!

I don't know merivercap! It was a french guy and we smoked in the coffeeshop and I wanted a name which doesn't sound too shabby and chateaux sounded a little corny i think they say in english or a little cheap and not at the same time. It was a laughter and for me it means spots around the planet where there is peace and freedom. And money, good new money from the web at the dollarspots.

I like your story... so a chateaux as a place for peace & freedom it is!

Count me in if you've not yet reached the magic number?

The name is very good when considering a global perspective. I hope it'll make it very simple and cheap to buy from merchants/pay people for services the world over.

@hadrian You're in!

Yes that's the plan to make it a dominant payment platform.

Have you considered using the currency sign somehow in the graphics?

Intersesting.  I like the symbol.  Reminds me of ubuntu.  We may use this down the road for something so thanks!

You said that you are a simple bitUSD-only wallet provider. Is this a kind of "keep it simple stupid" approach, or do you have other specific reasons for limiting your remit?

If things really take off in the future, and other 'bitCurrencies' gain huge liquidity, would you expand to include these?

Yes bitUSD is a start to keep it extremely simple and focused, but we will probably expand sooner than later in bitEUR/bitCNY and develop partnerships in Europe and China.

Historically cash has been a great way to transact, offering a lot of privacy. What will be the stance of bitCash on privacy? Do you expect to add privacy features to the wallet for example? I suppose it will depend in part upon how BitShares progresses, but do you have any fundamental views or approaches in this regard?

Yes we'll want to add stealth transactions eventually, but the first wallet is geared towards the mainstream public so ease-of-use will be the primary concern.    I think privacy in various forms are very important , starting from 'Defensive Privacy' and that's where stealth transactions help: http://www.lifewithalacrity.com/2015/04/the-four-kinds-of-privacy.html

Blockchains are built around anti-censorship rather than privacy so we'll have to start with that.  Our simple wallet will use Facebook authentication to make it extremely easy so in some ways will have slightly less ''personal & contextual privacy' than Bitcoin.  We will have more 'personal & contextual privacy' than the popular Venmo which takes the approach of intentionally sharing what specific transactions people in your network are making.   We want to cater to the mainstream with our first simple/'spending cash'/'money clip' wallet.   However we expect people with larger amounts of money & merchants/businesses will use some form of stealth transactions and create more pseudonymous accounts to complement their spending wallet.

I really like the approach. I know that if I had a free wallet for bitUSD and that I was offered to "upgrade" to get more features such as stealth transaction...I would buy in a heartbeat!
