Title: [ANN - AMA] bitCash - Digital Money of the Future!
Post by: merivercap on November 20, 2015, 12:11:40 am
(http://ibin.co/2N8ziBvKQXBY)

Hello community,
If you've been in the blockchain space for a while, you might forget how revolutionary blockchain--Bitcoin--Bitshares technology is and how it will change the world and our future.  The technology may now seem ordinary to us, but for the rest of the world it's still extraordinary and something yet to be experienced.   With this technology, we will all be able to OWN our money digitally in something as good as gold!  As Bytemaster has explained before money is what something is used for, not what something is.  Smartcoins are a revolutionary money that people can transform into digital equivalents of US Dollars, Euro, Yuan, gold & even Bitcoin.  These digital assets are collateralized by Bitshares, a company/organization that has intrinsic value for its usefulness today as well as for its potential as the dominant payment system & decentralized exchange of the future.  The value of Bitshares is validated by its ability to generate transaction fee revenue.   So that is why Bitshares technology makes sense and it is up to us to bring this to the world so we can all finally be free and empowered.  Onwards!

What is bitCash?
bitCash is another name for Smartcoins, a revolutionary money that people can transform into digital equivalents of US Dollars, Euro, Yuan, gold & even Bitcoin

What is BitCash Inc. the company?
We are a simple bitUSD-only wallet provider for the Bitshares ecosystem that plans to have a beta product at the very beginning of the new year.

Our Purpose: Bring financial freedom and empowerment to the world

Our Mission: To bring bitCash to the world as the digital money of the future.

Our Goal: Have 1 billion people using BitCash/Smartcoins in 10 years (Hey if Facebook can do it why not us?)

Feel free to sign up to be invited to our beta launch at: http://www.bitcash.org

Lastly we are looking for 100 people in our community to be part of the BitCash Founders Club, reserved for those who believe in our vision and who will support us through action or just in spirit.   Feel free to post your interest in being part of the Founders Club in this thread and the first hundred that exemplify the spirit of BitCash and become part of the Founders Club will forever be extolled in the annals of BitCash and BitShares history for posterity...  ;)

I'd write more, but it will be TL;DR so I'll make it AMA style.  Ask away!

Hey! Nice to see different services start to appear. Bit by bit the BitShares ecosystem is getting more complete

I have a couple questions:

Where do you intend to start? Just offer and advertise your services on the internet or will you start on a specific geographical location like Africa, South America, etc?

Since you're a bitUSD only wallet provider - that seems a nice challenge - will your company be a market maker to bring liquidity to bitUSD? Or are you considering that?

Any other services for the future (long term) that you'd like to provide other than a wallet provider?

Thanks for the questions.  We're in the SF Bay Area/Silicon Valley so locally here in CA and in the US broadly.  We will scale out over time.  However we want to push our brand out as far and wide as possible so we will offer a generous referral program and form partners from around the world who like our product and brand.

Since you're a bitUSD only wallet provider - that seems a nice challenge - will your company be a market maker to bring liquidity to bitUSD? Or are you considering that?
Yes considering that.  Part of the idea is to bring new investors and new money to create more bitUSD float and then eventually help bring liquidity through other means like market making.  This is all a process of ramping up as we gain validation.

Any other services for the future (long term) that you'd like to provide other than a wallet provider?
We wanted to focus on one area, but we may fill in others where we feel we can add value and there's a need.  If BitCash/BitShares becomes the digital money platform of the future the sky really is the limit in terms of services.

Thanks for the question...

We plan to work with and use CCEDK, BunkerDEX in Canada and bitcoin gateways first as well as something like Glidera that just popped up.

In the meantime we were focused on building an extremely easy peer-to-peer mechanism of exchange and think that's a really effective method for distribution.

Surely a great idea... if the purpose of the enterprise is to have really good size opening thread.

or you can just ask "who here holds brownies", as a last sentence of the OP.

Lol... not quite the purpose of the enterprise, but it would be great to gauge interest  @tonyk, .. anyways I enjoy the reality checks you offer ..it's mainly about posting your interest in being part of the Founders Club so it would naturally mean believing and supporting the bitCash idea, at least in spirit...so if that's the case you're in if you want to be.. just let me know.

@roadscape Fantastic... welcome to the club!

re: the question.
We will be working on a peer-to-peer gateway (with elements of Bitquick.co/Abra/Glidera), but that's more of an extension of the mobile payment app .. in terms of other areas if we need to funnel mainstream users to a simple bitUSD->BTS exchange we may start that up, but I'm hoping a few more exchanges would start up to generate liquidity so we'll wait and see if it's necessary.  Focus is important.

Inspiring idea, would love to help in any way.  +5%

or you can just ask "who here holds brownies", as a last sentence of the OP.

Great idea.  Brownie holders are a proven demographic who busts their asses for bitshares and gives more than they really should for bitshares.

When they could sit around complaining, brownie holders instead are those who act.  They are some of the most active and giving community members we have...essentially they are some of the true angels that have blessed the community with their hard work and sacrifices.

If OP wants me to round up brownie holders to help out ill gladly do so!  Imagine the power of them backing this!

Thanks @tonyk for the awesome idea!

Oh so you are basically saying that brownie holders are the opposite of valuable people?  Id gladly put any one of them up against a person whose habit is to choose a constant flow of unproductive criticism.  :)

P.S. just a lesson tony...often times those in this world who you might loom at as brown nosers are actually loyal to a cause and willing to put their asses on the line for those who would otherwise fear doing so.  Please be careful man...there are many brownie holders and they all hold them because they sacrificed to keep this platform alive.  Your tendency to jump on all of them with a single blanket description actually is not a reality check--but more of an ignorant and angry way of attacking people you barely know.  Of course i suppose we could fall back on your intimate knowledge of everything...which seems a pattern of behavior to which you enjoy prescribing.  But sadly such ignorance and willingness to descend to anger and accusation, doesnt help our community...or you.

@merivercap sorry for hijacking this thread.  Im done soeaking here but at the same time i hope tony sees what he is doing is actualky taking us away from the point of this thread---to unite the community around a great project that brings hope to all for a better bitshares-powered future.  If tomy attacks again, ill kindly remain silent.

I actually find it strange. I mean, it sticks and is easy to say and pronounce, everything a brand needs. However I've always disliked the "bit" part. And "cash" is just... simple. I guess simple is good sometimes. Still, sounds strange but I guess it's just my personal opinion.

the most important thing is for people to easily remember and say it. meaning is simple and straightforward so it seems it's just a matter of personal preference for me.

Btw when will the winner of those 100bitUSD be announced?

@fuzzy don't worry it's a forum so it's already hard to communicate and everyone has different personalities so issues will come up... I thought about Brownie.pts but that's more of social currency from Bytemaster so I thought it would be good to create something different.... anyways would be great to have you as part of the Founder's Club so just let me know!

I know you were harsh on it early on, but hopefully it grows on you.   There is a trend away from the 'bit' and towards blockchain etc. and I can understand that, but I think it's ok to identify more closely with Bitcoin.   One way to think of it as 'bitcoin' is like digital gold so it's a 'coin' and used more like a reserve currency/collectible/gold rather than for payments whereas we are like digital dollars, hence the 'cash'.

bitcoin = digital gold
bitcash = digital dollars

We'll do the drawing for $100 bitUSD at the beta launch when we move on from the launch page....

BitCash is a great name...btw
I actually find it strange. I mean, it sticks and is easy to say and pronounce, everything a brand needs. However I've always disliked the "bit" part. And "cash" is just... simple. I guess simple is good sometimes. Still, sounds strange but I guess it's just my personal opinion.

the most important thing is for people to easily remember and say it. meaning is simple and straightforward so it seems it's just a matter of personal preference for me.

Btw when will the winner of those 100bitUSD be announced?

I know you were harsh on it early on, but hopefully it grows on you.   There is a trend away from the 'bit' and towards blockchain etc. and I can understand that, but I think it's ok to identify more closely with Bitcoin.   One way to think of it as 'bitcoin' is like digital gold so it's a 'coin' and used more like a reserve currency/collectible/gold rather than for payments whereas we are like digital dollars, hence the 'cash'.

bitcoin = digital gold
bitcash = digital dollars

We'll do the drawing for $100 bitUSD at the beta launch when we move on from the launch page....

Let me know if you are interested in being part of the club btw...

I thought it was implicit I was interested by posting here. The fact I find it strange doesn't mean I was harsh, I think I wasn't, was just stating my opinion. I found it strange but the name does it job, that's better than having a "cool" name that doesn't do its job.

If I didn't make it clear, I'm interested of course, I want everything that is related to BitShares to succeed.

Yes we are in the early stages so we will basically experiment with the 19 traction channels in the book Traction by Weinberg/Mares and narrow it down to 2-3 and then focus on just one core channel at each phase of growth.  But yes your question falls into business development and the gaming industry is a great one to be working with.  We also want to be generous with the referral program and empower partners to really develop their own channels.   Thanks for the question!

Oh about BitShares not being about payment services? Well i meant BitShares shouldn't be conditioned by that. Service providers should adapt. I have no problem with any business using BitShares. The more services the better, more value they add to BitShares

You said that you are a simple bitUSD-only wallet provider. Is this a kind of "keep it simple stupid" approach, or do you have other specific reasons for limiting your remit?

If things really take off in the future, and other 'bitCurrencies' gain huge liquidity, would you expand to include these?

Historically cash has been a great way to transact, offering a lot of privacy. What will be the stance of bitCash on privacy? Do you expect to add privacy features to the wallet for example? I suppose it will depend in part upon how BitShares progresses, but do you have any fundamental views or approaches in this regard?

Yes bitUSD is a start to keep it extremely simple and focused, but we will probably expand sooner than later in bitEUR/bitCNY and develop partnerships in Europe and China.

Historically cash has been a great way to transact, offering a lot of privacy. What will be the stance of bitCash on privacy? Do you expect to add privacy features to the wallet for example? I suppose it will depend in part upon how BitShares progresses, but do you have any fundamental views or approaches in this regard?

Yes we'll want to add stealth transactions eventually, but the first wallet is geared towards the mainstream public so ease-of-use will be the primary concern.    I think privacy in various forms are very important , starting from 'Defensive Privacy' and that's where stealth transactions help: http://www.lifewithalacrity.com/2015/04/the-four-kinds-of-privacy.html

Blockchains are built around anti-censorship rather than privacy so we'll have to start with that.  Our simple wallet will use Facebook authentication to make it extremely easy so in some ways will have slightly less ''personal & contextual privacy' than Bitcoin.  We will have more 'personal & contextual privacy' than the popular Venmo which takes the approach of intentionally sharing what specific transactions people in your network are making.   We want to cater to the mainstream with our first simple/'spending cash'/'money clip' wallet.   However we expect people with larger amounts of money & merchants/businesses will use some form of stealth transactions and create more pseudonymous accounts to complement their spending wallet.

Eventually there will probably be an email option, but unfortunately right now with limited resources and our goal to get mass adoption we need to rely on Facebook.  They have a billion daily active users which is pretty unbelievable, but we plan to piggy back off them.   I think probably 10-20% of 'active users' are for authentication only and for convenience and not that many people use Facebook.  For authentication purposes, Facebook doesn't get much info at all from third-party apps.  I understand we'll probably lose 10-20% of the crypto crowd, but we have to make the trade-off right now with limited resources.

I'm also not on the book of faces, but I understand the desire for relatively easy authentication / mass adoption.  I guess we just have to create the next big social network so you'll be compelled to switch. ;)

Yeah that would work.  Telegram is a good open-source protocol...

I refuse to use facebook.  Will you have other means of authentication?  Basic email sign up?

Yeah when we have more resources we can probably put together a complementary website with the same UI/UX that allow various other auth methods,  but from a UI/UX perspective limited options makes it much easier for the average person so the main website will be very minimalist.

Same. They gave me teh ban hammer after posting some "police state" stuff. It didn't hurt my feelings at all and I actually still cherish the moment. ;)

Yeah there are a lot of terrible things with Facebook and I used to feel icky using it, but I got over it because as long as you don't post personal info (and tell your friends not to) they can't do much.   I just use it for convenience and authentication.  The US version of BTC38 does a good job of being user-friendly and they use FB only.

Just make a fake Facebook account to use for login. Don't use it for anything else. The next big sociel network should be decentralized and the add profits gose to the members.

I agree.  That's a good way to do it for those that are allergic to Facebook.   You can just use it for authentication.  It takes resources to set up authentication, prevent spam,  create password recovery, provide security etc.   Just think of it as taking advantage of Facebook.    But it's a fair exchange.  They get to pad/inflate their 'daily active user' number to investors while people are actually using bitCash and other 3rd-party apps.   :)

Count me in if it's not too late!

 8)

The prospect of blockchain/crypto-safe USD is one of the most promising innovations that initially pulled me to bitshares.

The focus on USD-only really gives bitcash the opportunity to market it as a form of digitized dollars (more like something with the familiarity PayPal, less something with the complexity of bitcoin)
If the bitUSD peg works well and we get visited by the liquidity gods, there shouldn't be much reason for bitcash to explain the complexity of "bitUSD" - or even the term itself.

I suspect the majority of consumers will merely need to know that it is "money on a blockchain...like bitcoin - only with dollars"

Right?

Like PayPal on a blockchain?

Now the hard part:

What markets do you expect to be most likely to adopt bitcash - at least, in the primary stages?

More specifically, can you share with us the markets bitcash plans to focus on?

@montpelerin You're in!  Welcome to the club!

Yes digitized dollars is the meme we want to get out, and also the idea it's a new kind of money.

In the early stages, we'll reach out to: 1) the medical marijuana community 2) merchants (esp. high risk) 3) millenials/college students 4) anti-establishment/libertarian groups  5) tech-savy & crypto communities 6) unbanked/underbanked

We'll probably narrow it down to 2-3 of the above and then just focus on one.   Anyone with any connections to any of the above let us know!

I would be interested in supporting something like this, I have been trying to get people to use bitUSD to settle minor debts between friends - splitting bills and such but the layered complexities of a) BTC b) bts and c) bitUSD make it nearly impossible to introduce to the uninspired. Count me in

that doesn't have anything to do with me revealing a picture of my actual middle finger?

 ???

you know. signed messaging and all that shit that people like you and Tuck, who obviously inspired my handle know more about than somebody like me who after weeks of apprehension and then frustration, finally got my wallet working.

Is it that hard to believe that there just might be more than 6 people who think that Daniel Larimer is at least as smart as Gavin Andresson, or Charlie Lee or Eric Voorhees, or the Dogecoin guy or the DASHman?

I went right down the coinmarketcap100, and when I got here, Tuck made me laugh, Dan made sense, and I made an Avatar

so no, I'm not on your list nor particularly want to be.  I thought that you wanted
support to build the wallet that Max Wright has been crying for all year (the bitcoin/bitUSD missing link) that will require the bitcoin masses to actually use BTS without knowing that they are making me rich.

Hey we're all in this together.  There are billions out there that aren't using digital money so plenty of opportunity for all of us.  We just all have to find our niche and product market fit.  Just think of us scrappy startups as small alt coins just trying to survive, to be seen and to break out...

A split personality does not qualify you for more than one membership. This rule is necessary to maintain the secrecy over Bytemaster's second identify and the 1.1 million Bitcoins he secretly controls.

It's mainly just a judgement call for me so let's just say it's limited to one seat for each spirit.  You guys are just kindred spirits so it's either GMF or you Tuck.   ;) The rest of the proxy/meme/fun accounts I'll avoid including in general mainly because they're mostly just alter egos.

Yes that makes perfect sense.   ::)

By all means please take me off of your list since I don't want to be a part of any system/project that reacts in this knee-jerk fashion and punishes the innocent due to your own false assumptions and half hazard thinking process.

Your judgement in this instance has told me all I need to know about your project. Best of luck!

Sorry to hear that.  Didn't mean to offend, but these are all judgement calls.  I actually like the fun meme accounts, but again it's just a judgement call about who is included.   I will make mistakes about who or who isn't using a proxy account or who 'deserves' to be in, but this club is exclusive by nature.  Not everyone can be part of it.  It's mainly those that support the spirit of the project and the first ones to do so.  Those who are willing to step up and step up first in my subjective opinion deserve to be recognized.   Anyways best of luck to you too and see you around in the forums.

FYI to everyone.  There should be no expectations when I start giving away points. These are points just like Brownie Points.  There should be no expectations.  This is not a liability.  This is not an obligation.  This is not a payment.  This is not a contract.  These are points.   These are points that may or may not result in some gifts.  I know people might be offended if they receive something or if they don't or if someone receives more than others, but these are all subjective judgements and the only certainty is that someone will be unhappy.  However if everything is a gift to each other than we should care less about what we get and contribute as much or as little as we desire.  These will merely be tokens of appreciation.

And thanks again everyone for the support.  I appreciate it.

Quote
What is bitCash?
bitCash is another name for Smartcoins, a revolutionary money that people can transform into digital equivalents of US Dollars, Euro, Yuan, gold & even Bitcoin

what can people transform? will BitCash target Crypto-Users, Fiat-Users or both?

i would also like to request membership

Welcome to the club @dichalcog3nid3 !  Yes our short-term goal is to get 100 in the founder's club... :)  Yeah we'll lay out a better road map for milestones.   10,000 users is our first goal for 2016 Q1.  That should enable us to get a seed round to keep us going.   User #'s are a bit of a vanity metric so we'll really be tracking transaction #'s and active users.

People will eventually be able to 'transform' Smartcoins to any currency or asset with a click of a button, but that's down the road.   We're targeting the mainstream, but we'll have a parallel outreach to crypto-users who find it convenient to trade with people in Smartcoins first before going into Bitcoin.  I think we are solving a good problem there since people don't have to wait as long for confirmation, can more easily trade dollar for dollar instead of being worried about bitcoin fluctuations etc.  and lastly people will probably like to trade back and forth between dollars and Bitcoin in general.

Nope. Again I'm 99% sure GMF is 38PTSWarrior.

If it was me or anyone else I work with I would tell you.

We've already said what accounts we control in a previous post.

I have no reason to pretend to be GMF to collect what? Some UIA?

I control or have access too so many UIA's the last thing I need is another, hence (part of) the reason I quickly walked away from this one so GMF (who's homeless) can have it, since that was the ultimatum proposed.

I have no issues (obviously because it's already been done) revealing what accounts I or anyone else at my place of business control and they can be easily verified.

Well, I think you control the GMF account.

So OP said it's either you (GMF) or me.

I choose you (GMF).

Send 100 BTS to BTS account : tuckfheman.com

Thanks!

Update : Oh and also, OP pretty much is calling me a "liar" in this thread, he just forgot to use the words "fucking liar". ;)

I'm not going all sjw and calling for his ban, I'm just choosing not to be a part of his project for choosing not to take my word for being honest ... which he will regret me doing in the long run since my meme game is very strong and our blog is growing exponentially.  :P

I wouldn't call you a liar even if I thought it because I wouldn't know.   This is the Internet too so a little skepticism is warranted.  I did receive your PM saying you didn't know who GMF was, but I decided to respond to the thread with what I thought was a bit of humor to egg you on a bit more.   Why so serious bro?  Or are you just acting serious?  And how are we ever supposed to tell?  :-\

Anyways GMF stated he didn't 'particularly want to be' on the list ...

Moving on....

That was posted in the middle of my "fight the fascist bans" post. ;)  I just saw an opportunity to expand on it with what you said in this thread. So, it was semi-serious/semi-taking advantage of a situation to further my agenda in another thread. I pay attention to how the US government does things and I learn some tricks now and then.  :P

Since GMF is out, I want back in, if that's OK with you. I thought he was Martin and I was trying to help Martin out. I take back what I said earlier, since it was nothing more than me being butthurt you were making me choose and I was going to have to go with Martin over myself. Hope you understand.  ;)

Hey guys.   We have a referral contest raffle for $100 bitUSD or its equivalent signing up to the email list at: http://www.bitcash.org

Note there are restrictions so please don't use fake email addresses for this.  I notice a flood of signups lately so we'll make judgments about what is real and what is fake.  Let's keep this to the honor system and not try to game this.   In the future web of trust systems should mostly eliminate gaming, but for now let's just try to keep it honest.  If there is an excess of fake emails I'll have to exclude the original referrer too.  Thanks!

Yeah youtube  mentioned it's blocked for Germany so I think that's the only country for some reason.  Where are you?

It's ok here in the US.  I guess artists can choose to restrict or monetize the content and in most cases I assume they choose to monetize so you'll see an ad pop up here and there.

I love the Daft Punk video you made @merivercap

Thanks @merockstar!   I was just going to ask for feedback so I'm glad you really like it!

If anyone else wants to check it out it's at: http://www.bitcash.org

Feel free to like, comment, share, subscribe.. and feedback is appreciated.  Thanks!

And will the mobile app be released as open source?
And how will it be licensed?

Hi! Do you have (plan to have) on/of ramps for USD?

We're focusing on peer-to-peer on/off ramps for USD so we are looking to build, integrate or collaborate on features similar to the following:
1) Glidera - (http://glidera.io/)
2) LibertyX - 19,000 locations to buy bitcoin (https://libertyx.com/)
3) Bitquick.co - p2p transactions via dropping cash into people's bank accounts (https://www.bitquick.co/)
4) LocalBitcoins

We also have the option to use wire transfers to CCEDK, and potentially use ACH to Canada with BunkerChainLabs.

Of course there are ways to go from USD to bitcoin to bitCash.

One of the easiest way for things to spread is really just to give friends and people you know bitCash for USD... we just need a lot of people familiar with Bitshares with access to bitUSD to disseminate it.

Yeah eventually it will probably be open source, but haven't really thought about that or the licensing.    Right now we are trying to prove out traction for the mainstream so focused more on that.  In terms of building trust, we want to bring in advisors that have a good reputation in the startup/payments space eventually, but we need about 10,000 users to be relevant so we probably have to hit that before we get some advisors on board.

Yes, very cool indeed.
If you manage to create a sexy mobile app and do some clever marketing around which will be as cool as this video - this project has a real chance to be a massive success.

Thanks for those words @jakub !    Yeah our app will be simple, but hopefully sticky and the marketing/branding is critical to make everything work...

Yeah I would have suspected Youtube too.. but Youtube has been good so far...wasn't quite sure how they would treat the video/music etc.... but since it's just being monetized by the artist all is good....  I was actually keeping it unlisted so I could test and get feedback, but my Adobe Premiere Pro free trial ran out so it's better I just run with it.  lol.    Thanks for the support!

Hey guys Happy New Year and let's work to make 2016 great!

I wanted to release a white paper on Bitshares soon and wanted feedback and review.  BM and xeroc have reviewed it and helped make some corrections, but I wanted community feedback to make sure it reads well and don't have any glaring errors.   The main purpose of this whitepaper is to: 1) simplify the technology in a similar style to the Bitcoin whitepaper 2) help influencers and others feel comfortable with the technology.  Let me know what you guys think.  Thanks!  BTW it's only 3.5 pages!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bitshares - A Peer-to-Peer Payment & Monetary Asset System (Whitepaper Draft)

Abstract:  A peer-to-peer system that enables the creation of monetary assets pegged to local currencies can be used as electronic cash for online payments between two people without the need for a financial institution.  Similar to the Bitcoin system digital signatures are used, but instead of proof-of-work a delegated proof-of-stake protocol is used to prevent double-spends and maintain the security of the network.  Similar to how existing corporations and organizations function today, stakeholders vote to determine who the operators of the network are.  Stakeholders vote to determine which particular set of witness nodes can validate transactions on the network and enter a record into the history of transactions called the blockchain.  Double-spends cannot occur because the consensus for valid transactions is between a deterministic set of witness nodes that agree on the order of transactions.  Other non-witness nodes in the protocol can monitor transactions to audit the integrity of the blockchain.  The value of the network system is determined by people’s expectations of future dividends from the revenue the network earns on transaction fees for payment transfers and asset exchanges.  The value of the network system is used as collateral to create monetary assets that can track the value of local currencies as well as other assets.  The network system uses price feeds and internal exchange prices to determine the value of the collateral at any given time and to ensure sufficient collateral is maintained for each corresponding monetary asset.

+5% Great work!  I need to read this again tomorrow and look at it with clear eyes.
The only thing that immediately jumps out to me is the conclusion.

I would say this differently, but I haven't figured out how exactly yet.

Quote
9.  Conclusion

We have described a peer-to-peer payment and monetary asset system that enables users to make payments in assets that are pegged to local currencies.  We start with the framework of Bitcoin and other coin systems that use cryptographic digital signatures to securely transfer ownership.  Bitcoin is currently not widely used as a unit of account and may take many years or decades before it becomes the standard monetary unit of account.  Hence the proposed system provides a framework to enable users to create monetary assets that are pegged to local fiat currencies for more convenient use. The system begins with a delegated-proof-of-stake protocol (DPOS) to allow stakeholders to vote on the operations of the network just like traditional organizations and companies.  DPOS also enables stakeholders to select witness nodes to produce blocks and record the transaction history into the blockchain.  Stakeholders can also create monetary assets that are collateralized by shares in the network and use internal and external exchange prices to value the collateral so each monetary asset remains sufficiently backed over time.

My issues begin with: "We start with the framework of Bitcoin and..." "...may take many years or decades before..." and "the proposed system"

I'd suggest naming the "proposed system" within the document.  The Graphene Toolkit, BitShares, or an effective generic descriptor.  The "proposed system" is somewhat confusing and weaker than need be since the system is in fact operational currently, and that's a majorly strong point, it does exist not just in theory... As demonstrated by, and so forth.

I can't really think clearly about how to reformulate this right now, I'll look again tomorrow, but that's my 2bts.

@lovejoy  Thanks for the feedback!  Yeah that makes sense.  I will remove 'proposed' in the conclusion.  I do understand what you are saying about it being weak without specific names, but I tried to avoid repeating  'Bitshares' many times similar to the way the Bitcoin paper was written.  Satoshi's paper was broad and theoretical and only used Bitcoin in the title so I tried to do the same.  So that is more the academic style I guess.

I also agree the bolded can be improved. Second sentence is awkward... The third bolded sentence is redundant compared to the very first...  What about:

We have described a peer-to-peer payment and monetary asset system that enables users to make payments in assets that are pegged to local currencies.  We start with the framework of Bitcoin and other [electronic] coin systems that use cryptographic digital signatures to securely transfer ownership.  Bitcoin is currently not widely used as a unit of account and may take many years or decades before it becomes the standard monetary unit of account.  Hence the proposed system provides a framework to enable users to create monetary assets that are pegged to local fiat currencies for more convenient use.  The system begins with adds a delegated-proof-of-stake protocol (DPOS) to allow stakeholders to vote on the operations of the network just like traditional organizations and companies.  DPOS also enables stakeholders to select witness nodes to produce blocks and record the transaction history into the blockchain.  [Finally], stakeholders can also create monetary assets that are collateralized by shares in the network and [that] use internal and external exchange prices to value the collateral so [that] each monetary asset remains sufficiently backed over time.  Therefore, the system offers users stable monetary assets that are pegged to local fiat currencies for convenience.

Let me know if that works better...thx!

Hey all.

Hope all is well.  Sorry for the lack of updates.  We have been a bit delayed with finishing the initial version of the simple mobile app, but we are making progress so we'll let you all know when we get a better estimate of when we will have it out for testing.

Anyways I wanted to get a BitCash Founder's Club vote on our faucet allocation.  We have a faucet set up at: https://bts.bitcash.org
Thanks  so much @puppies for helping make this happen!

Note: We don't plan to open the faucet up for new accounts yet, but feel free to import keys if you want to use the wallet.  It's the same as OL just with different colors.

It would be great to have a generous allocation for the referral program and wanted your vote and feedback.  The referral program currently gives 20% to the network and 30% to lifetime members.   We get to decide the remaining 50% between referrers (annual/lifetime members) and our faucet/registrar.   For example we can have 10% of referral revenue go to the faucet, then 40% will go to annual/lifetime members, an additional 30% would go to the lifetime member, and 20% would go to the network.

It would be great to have everyone one of us and our supporters well-rewarded for spreading the word!  Here are the allocation options to vote on:

A) 20% faucet / 30% annual/lifetime member / 30% lifetime / 20% network
B) 10% faucet / 40% annual/lifetime member / 30% lifetime / 20% network
C) 5% faucet / 45% annual/lifetime member / 30% lifetime / 20% network
D) 0% faucet / 50% annual/lifetime member / 30% lifetime / 20% network
E) Other, please explain

I don't mind having 0% for the faucet, but in general our faucet has to manage spam and there is a possibility that people might create lifetime member farms that create many membership accounts so it may be safer to allocate some referral revenue to the faucet to prevent abuse.  Right now it takes about 95 BTS to open new accounts, 4,000 BTS for an annual membership, 20,000 BTS for a lifetime membership. Allocating 5% for the faucet will give it 200 BTS if a referral upgrades to an annual membership, enough to cover two account creations.

We'll keep the vote open for two weeks?
Please vote and let me know what you guys think.... thanks!

Don't get me wrong, but I would recommend to not simply import your
private keys
here unless you publish the sources as well as the
deployed code. Then people can compare with the original code and see
you didn't tamper with it. I am sure you understand that!

This is not an issue particular to bitcash, but we might need to find a
way to show to users that their keys do not leave their browsers. Not
sure how to do that though (@jcalfee1, @svk ??)

Not sure if I understand correctly the difference between
"faucet", "annual/lifetime member" and "lifetime". The faucet is usually
called "registrar" because it pays the registration fee. One of the
other both is usually called "Lifetime Referrer" and the other is called
Affiliate Referrer.

If
 - "annual/lifetime member" = affiliate referrer"
 - "lifetime" = Lifetime referer
then I vote for option "B".

Would you faucet allow registration of premium names? Why would the
faucet care about annual or lifetime fees? Would YOU pay for those
upgrades?

I don't mind having 0% for the faucet, but in general our faucet has to manage spam and there is a possibility that people might create lifetime member farms that create many membership accounts so it may be safer to allocate some referral revenue to the faucet to prevent abuse.  Right now it takes about 95 BTS to open new accounts, 4,000 BTS for an annual membership, 20,000 BTS for a lifetime membership. Allocating 5% for the faucet will give it 200 BTS if a referral upgrades to an annual membership, enough to cover two account creations.
Would you faucet allow registration of premium names? Why would the
faucet care about annual or lifetime fees? Would YOU pay for those
upgrades?

It should work like OpenLedger.  I don't think faucets typically allow registration of premium names correct?  I just thought if the faucet makes 0%, a lifetime member would just create many lifetime member accounts to sell/giveaway/spam using the faucet.  Lifetime members could automatically upgrade the new accounts and know they would get everything back.  The faucet may need to generate just a bit of revenue from annual/lifetime fees for referred accounts to prevent lifetime members from taking advantage of the system?

@xeroc would you suggest just having a git fork that includes the changes to the wallet files?  Is there a way to have a cryptographic signature that could be checked by the end user?

Not sure if I understand correctly the difference between
"faucet", "annual/lifetime member" and "lifetime". The faucet is usually
called "registrar" because it pays the registration fee. One of the
other both is usually called "Lifetime Referrer" and the other is called
Affiliate Referrer.

If
 - "annual/lifetime member" = affiliate referrer"
 - "lifetime" = Lifetime referer
then I vote for option "B".
So I guess you really know what is "Lifetime referrer"?  8)
It's very confusable imo.
Basically,
* if you're a lifetime member and you referred a new user, you're the lifetime referrer of the new user;
* if you're a annual subscriber and you referred a new user, your lifetime referrer will be the lifetime referrer of the new user.

Which wallet apps are these?  Could it be that your current wallet apps on your phone are just delayed in development?   Anyways I understand your concern and frustration, but startups are not easy or always successful so hopefully you can continue to support us all despite any setbacks.

We're not currently working with kenCode, but I think the more products there are out there the merrier.   Every business has its own team, product, business model, target market etc. and it's great that consumers like us have options.  The market is huge so there's reason to be optimistic in general.

Thanks for the vote!

It's up to you if you want to import your accounts.  It's not necessary for the referral program because as long as you have an account on Bitshares it should work the same.  If you want to use our faucet wallet as an alternative or backup that's fine.   You can always create a new account yourself and import those keys to the new account to try it out and see if you like it.

Hello BitCash Founder's Club members!

We have our alpha version of the simple mobile web wallet up at: https://wallet.bitcash.org

It only works on Chrome for mobile.  (Hopefully we can eventually get the graphene-ui code to work on iPhone/Safari)  We'll eventually use React Native for iOS/Android, but having a mobile-centric web app is a good start.   You can go to the url and  'Add to Homescreen' and it will act like a native app.  Otherwise you can just use your laptop/desktop to test as well.   It's a very simple starter wallet for mainstream users.   I don't imagine people will put over $100 in it in the long-run.  It's designed to be a 'money-clip' wallet for spending cash.

Anyways if you guys can check it out and give feedback that would be great.  I'll send you guys a small amount of bitcash to send back and forth to test if you give me your user ID... Thanks!

I suppose I should hold back on giving feedback until I've tried it on the intended chrome browser!

I've tried it on chrome now as well as Cyanogenmod browser.

You've described it as "a very simple starter wallet for mainstream users". I think it will serve it's function very well. It's going to seem like magic to people once they've tried it to send bitcash!

When I first tried it I put my name as 'hadriantest', but my ID showed as 'hadriantest1' on what you might call the account screen. Then I tried it on a different browser (chrome) and entered my name as 'hadriantest' again. This time my ID was 'hadriantest2'. If this is to do with account names being already taken, perhaps there should be a prompt or message for the user. Also, I'm not sure why I wasn't allowed 'hadriantest', because it's not taken - do you automatically append a number?

More feedback to do with inconsistencies in the way the sending amount is displayed. A couple of examples showing input and resulting output:

1 -> $1
1. -> $1.00
1.0 -> $1
1.01 -> $1.01

Also:

1 -> $1
1. -> $1.00
1.0 -> $1
1.00 -> $1

Yes this automatically generates a cheap account name to make it easier.  Just adds 1 if the name is already taken.  Cheap names need a number or a dash.

Thanks for the feedback!  Will try to figure out that display bug.

BTW did you add to home screen?  If you do that you should get an icon and it will feel like a native app.

Yeah absolutely.  Fantastic.... thanks so much @hadrian! Sent some to hadriantest1... you just got some bitcash... real value!  I'm going to stress that with all the new people I show.. real value/money that no one can limit, freeze or restrict... they're the bank now!  :)

BTW if you click on the key symbol, you'll download the .bin file so you'll have a recovery method if you clear your browser/cookies... you can also import your key into OpenLedger or https://bts.bitcash.org to see your account there as well.   Your pin is your password.

More feedback.

In the app, the list of transactions shows amounts, but not which account the money came from or went to. I know you want to keep it simple, was this a conscious decision? I imagine some scenarios where people would want to see this information without going to a block explorer.

Also the amounts don't always add up, i.e. the sum of transactions doesn't equal the balance. I imagine this is because of rounding, but it would confuse some people. Would it be much work to overcome this problem?

When typing in who to send money to, it doesn't offer a list of choices when you've input a partial account name. I like this fact! On a smartphone it's too easy to tap the wrong item on a list and not notice. There will be fewer mistakes how you've done it.

When messing around I noticed the response within the 'app' when you do a successful transaction is the same as with one which is invalid/unsuccessful. This means the user has to check the transaction list or balance to see if it worked. Could there be something to indicate whether or not a transaction was completed?

What you've done is very effective, lovely and simple. The simplicity makes it seem all the more magical. "What? I've just received money from Dave? But all I did was go to this site, choose a name and tell Dave!".

We're planning to get as much feedback up to probably 1,000 people in the alpha phase and then go to beta.. maybe up to 10,000 before an official launch.

1) Yes we wanted to keep it simple, but partly because it's easier to code  :P.. we do want to highlight/show 'To/From/Date' when you click on one of the rows.  That should be in the beta phase.  :)

2) I think the network fees range are around +/-1.3 cents currently.   That amount is deducted from your balance instead of the receiver so unfortunately the amounts don't add up.  There's also a bit of dust that remains as well.  You'll notice if you have $1 left you can't send it all, you'll have to send 98 cents and the rest will go to fees.  Not sure the best UX is but for now I guess we just explain there are fees.  Ideally we will have %-based transaction fees + a free for members pricing structure.

3)  Interesting to know about tapping the wrong name!   What about an auto-suggestion for recent recipients or your friend list?

4)  Yes there is delay and uncertainty until you wait to make sure it went through.  Maybe some kind of confirmation notice before going to the next screen, but have to see what we can do there technically.

Thanks so much for all the feedback!

I briefly checked it out yesterday it's a great start! Truly minimalistic. The weird thing is that the simplicity was almost confusing. Maybe that's just me being used to our wallets :) But an extra option or two, table column, or a little bit more info somehow could help. Maybe some guidance text, especially on the account create page. Small things like: "Enter first name" could be "Enter nickname" because it communicates the intent better. Some other brief thoughts:
 - There are 2 white dots above and below the $ sign, they might look ok if they were aligned with the center stroke but they are offset to the right by a few pixels in my browser
 - The ">" and "<" buttons would be better as unique icons or maybe simply flipped. On the "Send" page the arrow points to the right, which makes me think "go forward" when it really brings me back to the account overview.

I haven't tried making a transaction yet.. it doesn't recognize assets other than CASH.USD right? Do we have a USD:CASH.USD market?

Thanks for the great feedback!  Yes I think our goal is to 'say nothing yet say everything'.... but we have to find the best zen path :P.. someone also mentioned instructions.  I think for now maybe some kind of call-out information (i) icon might be a good start.

1) I think nickname works well!  We'll most likely change 'first name' to 'nickname' !   Thanks!

2) Yes the dots are css and I can see it being off  on various browsers... we probably need to create an svg of that symbol ...calling on @cass?  you there? :)

3)  Yes there are technically only two screens, the keypad and balance screen.  When you press 'send' it's supposed to be more modal-like or a child of the keypad screen.  Otherwise it's > to balance and < to home.  Will think about ways to convey that better..

4) I'll send you a small amount of CASH.USD if you still have access to your wallet.  (You can save your keys clicking on the key symbol.)  My account is: jun1     I'm hoping people create CASH.USD using instructions under 'Why create CASH.USD and how do I do it?' at https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,22192.0.html

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Are you sure you're on the balance screen, where it says your account name? Is the page refreshed? You should have money according to cryptofresh...

Indeed, lots of bitcash on my account according to cryptofresh !

I have to keypad page showing 0
I tried the send page, it doesn't allow me to send anything, probably because of my 0 balance.
I refreshed a couple of time.

I just see 2 pages, the keypad and the send page. Where is this balance page ?

I'm using a samsung galaxy 5 / android / chrome

Next to the send button is a green '>' button which takes you to the account balance page.

The keypad page you mention, where it says $0, is where you enter the amount which you want to send. The send button won't do anything until you enter an amount using the keypad.

Sometimes, if you want to send your whole balance, you'll need to enter a cent or two less because of fees.

I hope this helps.

I've seen this page, this is where you can download you backup.

I have several a big $ symbol with on dot below and above. Under this symbol, I have several lines showing "+$". Just like if I had received several transactions but they are not showing properly.

It's not supposed be like that. I tried disabling JavaScript on chrome to see if that's the problem, but then the page doesn't load at all. You could try checking that you have JavaScript enabled, just in case.

I don't know a lot about computers, so don't know what else to suggest. Have you managed to download a backup? If you have then you could try messing around with chrome to see if you can get it to work.

You could take the backup and use it on a P.C.

@EstefanTT   Thanks for describing the issue.  Sorry, trying to figure out what's going on.   Are you still getting that issue? It seems ok on my system.  If you can make sure you download your keys by clicking the key symbol that would be great.

FYI the account creation process doesn't seem to be working so we have to figure out what's going on there as well.

Hey great to see you back @cass!  We need help with the dollar symbol and probably need to make it an image/svg instead of using css.  I'll reach out with a PM.  Thanks!

The faucet is back up.

*Update*:
Fixed account creation issue:
If you tried unsuccessfully to create an account before and get to the keypad screen just go to: https://wallet.bitcash.org/#/create-account

Once you have an account make sure you save your private keys by clicking the key symbol.  The file will download as bts_default.bin.

Thanks for trying it out and testing!

Absolutely @Geneko and welcome!  I sent a couple dimes to geneko1 and 3 ... I can send more after you confirm receiving it.. remember we're using the CASH.USD smartcoin asset and we're hoping people can help create more supply down the road.   Thanks!

We'll probably be moving our ANN thread over to Steemit soon.  Thx!

I'm also not on the book of faces, but I understand the desire for relatively easy authentication / mass adoption.  I guess we just have to create the next big social network so you'll be compelled to switch. ;)
Just make a fake Facebook account to use for login. Don't use it for anything else. The next big sociel network should be decentralized and the add profits gose to the members.

@merivercap I cough you interview on the Beyond Bitcoin show replay today. Glad to see things are going forward. And Steemit can replace Facebook.
