Thanks to all who responded to my question. I guess I will have to consider it part of my learning experience  :)

IMO a glitch is unlikely (but not impossible).

Your account history is rather long, and the offer you cancelled is quite old. That makes it very difficult to check up on what happened to the offer.

The fact that the cancel operation didn't return the fees from the original limit_order operation proves that the original order was partially filled. IMO that is sufficient to explain why you received less than what you originally put up for sale - the question remains why you saw the order displayed as 172 CRYPTOCEEDS when in fact there were only 2.2 left.

Could there have been a system glitch? I cancelled a sell offer of 172 cryptoceeds, therefore, shouldn't I receive 172 back? I have cancelled many offers in the past and I have always received the assets back in my balance, except for this time.

I suppose you mean this cancel operation:
http://cryptofresh.com/tx/6e4868653f1094616147a139d3fac8ebf382c953
If you click on "Show raw transaction" you will see that the operation result is 22000 units of asset "1.3.1065" - that asset ID belongs to CRYPTOCEEDS which has a precision of 4 decimals, meaning you should have received 2.2 CRYPTOCEEDS from the cancel operation.
Since you didn't receive any tx fees back I'd assume your order was partially filled.

It was on the cryptoceeds:bts market. I cancelled a sell offer of 172 cryptoceeds @300 and as it usually happens, I should have 172 cryptoceeds reverted back to my balance. I am still waiting and it has been more than 24 hours since I cancelled the offer.

I'm not certain but could it be due to the type of asset and the exchange (Openledger, Blocktrades, Transwiser) it was held by?

I have cancelled a sell offer some 23 hours ago and until now I do not see the currency returned to my balance. What should I do to recover my assets? The cancellation shows up on Cryptofresh and I have taken screenshots of raw data showing that the event took place. The cancellation also shows up in my account history. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.
