[Worker Proposal] Marketing: Sponsorship
« on: January 28, 2019, 01:08:14 pm »
Title: Sponsorship
Freelancer: aggroed-lighthacker (using BBF escrow)
Total: 256,849 bitCNY (= 39,375 USD)
Duration: 2019/02/01 -  2019/05/01 (3 months)
Dear BitShares Community,
This worker proposal requests a relatively low-priced sponsorship for the #1 rated game in crypto1, Steem Monsters, to promote BitShares to a targeted group of digital asset investors. The 3 month advertising intends to bring more traders and investors to the BitShares Asset Exchange by focusing only on existing owners of digital assets outside of BItShares ecosystem. (SM)
Steem Monsters is a Digital Trading Card Game operating on the Steem blockchain, which just opened its doors for advertising. Why is this a perfect match for BitShares marketing?

  • #1 Game and #4 DApp in all of crypto2
  • Highly targeted audience, ready to invests in smaller crypto assets
  • 50% discount for the initial sponsorship
  • Biggest ad placement possible on the Battlefield Area of the site
  • Seamless ad, hard coded which doesn’t allow “adblock”
  • Visible at all times, scrolling up/down will not bypass the ad

At the moment, BitShares does not have an effective marketing in place. Most cryptocurrency marketing relies on websites like (CMC) which offer little targeting. Their current Cost Per 1,000 Impressions3 (CPM) is $14.00 for only a 728x90 pixel Banner. CMC’s audience isn’t targeted because most of its regular users are only interested in a quick price glance of the top few cryptos.

SM provides a highly targeted audience, because in order to use the Battlefield Area and see this ad, users must previously purchase multiple digital assets which start from $10 and sometimes cost over $1,000 for a single asset. This will benefit the BitShares ecosystem and community by laser focusing marketing efforts only to crypto users which already own and regularly trade digital assets in form of trading cards. To grow, BitShares needs more actively invested users in its ecosystem and this is a perfect match. This has a price tag of $25 per 1,000 impressions (CPM).
The BitShares community receives a 50% discount or $12.50 CPM for the full 3 months. In addition to a better price, the Battlefield Area Ad is at least 550% bigger than CMC’s banner.

The BitShares Ad cannot be moved by scrolling, making it visible at all times.

The Ad will include a clickable link to

The Ad, featuring Bitshares logo and text, has small opacity to seamlessly integrate into the entire background of Battlefield Area. This also stops any “adblock” software. SAMPLE:

The sponsorship will be announced in detail on the SM blog to over 5,000 followers and reposted to other social media.
The use of $12.50 CPM is better than traditional milestones because it charges exactly $0.0125 per each single view by using an escrow.

Escrow from the BitShares Blockchain Foundation (BBF) will be released once a month for 3 months for each impression made. At the moment, the Battlefield Area where the ad will be placed has over 30,000 daily impressions or about 1 million per month. Each month, the exact amount of impressions will be multiplied by $0.0125 and released.

The 3 month budget is for 3 million impressions and includes 5% BBF escrow: 39,375 USD
3,000,000 * (12.50 / 1000) * 1.05 = 39,375

Budget will be pegged to the most liquid4 and most stable asset: bitCNY, worth 0.1533 USD5, and released monthly for impressions achieved.

Total budget: 256,849 bitCNY
39,375 / 0.1533 = 256,849

After 3 months, if there is less than 3 million impressions made, the unspent budget will be returned by BBF escrow
If 3 million views is made faster, the ad will last less than 3 months
At the end of each month, website impression data will be invoiced to the escrow
Spending cap for 3 million views (including escrow): $39,375
Actual budget: 256,849 bitCNY

About the team
The co-founders, known as @aggroed and @yabapmatt, are experienced game creators with a lifelong passion for gaming. Steem Monsters was released for playing in September 2018 and has been funded by the community without outside capital. Development continues daily and users are kept on the edge of their seats with new features, game modes, cards and balancing weekly. Additionally, users are given daily quest rewards and huge season end rewards twice a month depending on their rank.

Both co-founders are also respected Top 20 Steem Witnesses (block producers), elected by the stakeholders of the Steem platform. Moreover, @aggroed is the #1 voted witness6. They have earned their community’s trust by making all decisions and development for the benefit of the user. BitShares and Steem both belong to the “Graphene family” and have a long history of strengthening each other. Using Steem Monsters for BitShares marketing is yet another perfect match.

3 Impression, sometimes called a view or an ad view, is a term that refers to the point in which an ad is viewed once by a visitor, or displayed once on a web page. The number of impressions of a particular advertisement is determined by the number of times the particular page is located and loaded.

Other Notes:
Draft and organisation by Nicholas Live, proposal will be submitted by Aggroed and monitored for escrow by BBF.

« Reply #1 on: January 28, 2019, 10:48:01 pm » That page says there's only 4k monthly steem-monsters users, is the plan to hit each of them with 1000 impressions? What about a shorter less expensive trial to see the effectiveness?

That’s closer to the “daily active users” than the total number. Their website fluctuates daily.

Also, the voting system has so many levels of protection, it makes a “trial” obsolete. The BTS community has the right to remove their vote at any point in the campaign if they are unhappy with the way it is progressing. The daily limit makes sure that the funding is drip feed. Lastly, even once all the funding is collected, it’s still in the hands of the escrow who will further verify. And BBF is the most trusted escrow that exists.

This as modern as marketing gets, and we are already putting our best foot forward with our flagship placement. And not only that but offering a 50% discount to demonstrate the effectiveness.

We’re only interested in the long term mutual success, and are looking forward to submitting a 6 month proposal once we prove ourself with this one.

Honestly I think this is going to be one of the better investments made by the BitShares Blockchain, one that has targeted followers. I have been following Steem monsters for a while, and the following has been very organic and rapid growing.

Maybe I would like to see a 1 month run first, but I still think something with this exposure should be supported. Voting for now, would prefer to see a shorter run first bust still voting.

Finalizing Steem support for Beet as well, and I hope SteemMonsters will be the first dApp to support it!
