You can't just put as many threads as you want - you need to set it to the number of virtual cores your package came with.

So I set everything up with the 16GB RAM package and started with 25 threads. Don't think that worked because something went wrong after 5 minutes and putty disconnected due to a software problem.

Whats going on, and how many threads can I use to keep things smooth and stable?

Got it running smoothly with 12 threads atm averaging around 4 sh/m but I'd like to get away with more if I can. I want maximum mining power with everything still smooth.

Been going for an hour and a half or 2 hours and only mined a total of 0.00733 PTS. That doesn't seem right to me, so I must be doing something wrong or the pool is chincing me out...

install libboost-chrono

find it in aptitude by searching for chrono

and then install the boost packages that it wants, and remove the others

libboost-all-dev in 12.04 precise will install an older version of boost w/ no chrono

sudo apt-get install libboost-chrono-dev

i haven't used precise in a while, but it seems they added libboost1.48-all-dev

that will install chrono
