I've already started working on creating and mapping twitter accounts for the adult industry. The goal is to have a strong grassroots base that will be ready when the official marketing begins with the high risk merchants reoccurring payments.

Nice work  +5%

With the stability of bitUSD this concern is no longer there.  After talking to BM we discovered continuity payments are actually low hanging fruit for the developers. It could be ready to go in a week or so if it were focused on.  And since customers have stability of currency with bitUSD in their wallet, they would be fine to leave a large chunk in their wallet, earning interest and they can control on the client side what subscriptions they have enabled or not.

Is there support from the development team on this initiative? If so, where does it fall into the mix of current priorities?

Very good ideas.

Porn uses funnel pages, squeeze pages, and info pages.  You need to convince people to want to use bitUSD or even bitshares or any bitAsset.  Make affiliate programs where people can convince other people to join so they get a commission as well.  clickbank comes to mind.

bitmarket, are you starting this, whose support do you need for the 2k a month delegate?  Fuz's?  Also breakdown the money aspect of the 2k a month, where will the money be going exactly.

I don't need a delegate position for this at the moment.

Myself and partners are doing due diligence on this niche as we speak along with a few others.  I was just pretty excited about this and shared.

These marketing plans/funnels/graphics etc take months to make.   Biggest challenge we have at the moment it getting dev team to believe in a specific vision and sticking with it a couple of months to build it out.  They spend a couple of months building tech, we spend a couple of months building marketing around what we asked for and it all comes together nicely at the right time.  That is the goal.   Time will tell if we can achieve that.   Its quite a mission with a decentralized community.

Sounds good.

I'm also taking a similar approach to crypto related new sites and mainstream publications (shared an older copy with Brian a few months ago) to get ready for our upcoming pushes.

The challenge is that bitUSD has no advantage over bitcoin for that use, but bitcoin has network effect.  We are looking for a niche that bitcoin cannot service.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Prefer Bitcoin over BitUSD? No problem, have a look at BitBTC instead. Its basically BTC and you earn just by HODLing.

Make Love Not Porn seems like the perfect partner for this idea! They have been met with resistance trying to find a traditional banking service, have a long term outlook for the industry and a unique spin on porn, and are open to accepting crypto currencies. It could even be good PR with BitShares as they are looking to encourage open and respectful discussion of sex as opposed to hidden and demonized version of the industry.

Update: I emailed Cindy Gallop to pitch BitShares to her as a potential financial future solution for MNLP, and to start a discussion with her that the community is interested in helping high risk merchants. Thanks to Max for providing me with some good talking points and pros / cons. Will update if I hear back from her!

the on/off ramp is sorted, jut not public yet.

..............................?!?!?

Timelines are always around the businesses offering the services. As BM mentioned in the last Mumble, most of these businesses are startups. Once they are ready to talk, we'll start hearing announcements.

+5% to this idea.

Just one comment to this, most of these porn users are not tech savvy and subscription to this is mostly less $5/mon, they probably prefer hassle free than a discount. Too early to target porn users because bitshares has no simple wallet and mobile wallet yet.

Why not target hosting sites first? the customers are webmasters, tech savvy and payment are all subscription.

just my 2 cents

Agreed all of this is contingent on easy web wallet and super easy on/off ramps being available.  the on/off ramp is sorted, jut not public yet.  the wallet is in dev.

I'm not of the Dev type but wouldn't a "escort escrow service" make this work?

Would it be possible to use a delegate position to offer a 3rd party escrow service overseeing the "subscription" contracts?

Not trying to intentionally bump this, but...
Looks like my earlier post may actually make this  "escrow" idea feasible?

At present we are imagining it like this.

Merchant saves 40% by using bitUSD and offers to pass 20% savings on to customers.

At checkout page customer sees banner in the payment options section. "Pay anonymously and get a 20% discount by using bitUSD" or "Protect your privacy and get a 20% discount by using bitUSD" [hypelink]What is bitUSD?[/hyperlink]

Customer clicks on link.    Goes to a very nice corporate site.  Watches a short animated video (3mins) on how cool bitusd is. How he can download wallet(desktop or phone) and fund it within 60 seconds(cool on ramp not yet public) + spend it at legitimate non porn places like XYZ + with absolute anonymity + that some merchants offer discounts to use bitUSD because bitUSD is so awesome it saves them merchant fees + you earn real interest while the bitusd is in your account, so feel free to get a few extra bitUSD (more than you need for this next purchase)

Once user has funded wallet they are returned to the referring merchant.

Points to note:
Our site is professional. It feels like an Amex black card site.
Our site works for all merchants not just porn sites. Porn will be able to make 20-40% discounts where as Amazon will only be able to give 2% discounts, but it all works the same.
We will have there email address and can follow up with informative videos how they can get the "cool new CD like accounts" that pay higher interest than there bank and they may want to park some USD there.
If we can figure out some cool way to make more money on the back end (or get community support donation/dilution/delegate pay)  we can pay an army of sales people to approach businesses in all niches OR give customers a free $5 sample to try us out, or some combination.

Now do me a favor.  Don't make me regret making this post.  Things change and change a lot. Even though deadlines have not been offered, if they were they would be not met. Dont complain this is not happening fast enough or not at all. This will not even be attempted until the product is where it needs to be.

In an article I was reading on Huffington Post, porn sites get more visitors per month than Amazon, Netflex and Twitter combined. The ability for a site to shave off 20%+ is substantial as competition increases and margins are slim.  I'm not saying avoid the nerds, I'm just highlighting that porn, as one of many high risk merchants, is worth doing the right way.  We keep banging our heads against the wall with those that understand the basics of Bitcoin, this allows us a back door (grin) to a market that doesn't already have those crypto walls up.

Unfortunately, you are right.  Maybe I should be a little more forceful with regard to making sure there is at least, say 15 minutes, for subreddit questions.  At the same time, however, we usually have so many questions during the actual hangouts that either:
A) cover a large number of the questions asked in the subreddit, or
B) The topics of conversation are so valuable that it is hard to interrupt the conversations that grow from them...

It requires prioritizing the reddit questions yourself.  Look at what seems to be the best question that has the most value to the community.  Blindly choosing the first question isn't  a good way of doing it.  Let the conversation flow and only interject when one person is overpowering the session.  Silence is ok, it lets the less aggressive people ask questions.  Dead spots in audio may be uncomfortable at the time, but they are trivial to edit out.  In fact there is likely a filter to do as much in an automated manner.

Please reread what I said above.  I do not blindly pick reddit questions.  They are either upvoted or asked in the order received.  :)

As far as the rest.  Totally agree.

*Edit*  Sorry bitmarket for forking this conversation.  I am interested in seeing where you guys end up.  Please keep us posted.  Very exciting ;)

Love this idea, porn generated mass adoption for photography, film, internet why not bitusd.

But where is the on off ramp? This has to be number one priority before marketing, No?
