Technical Support / Re: BTSX Price Per Share
« on: October 14, 2014, 09:18:43 pm »
Bitcoin went from 2.60 to 1165 in 2 years (44,707% gain).  This was when hardly anyone had even heard of crypto currencies too.  And still 2bln is not that hard to achieve even if there is just a slight change in the majority's public perception of crypto currencies.  Time will tell, but things move fast when momentum takes hold.

BTC was also much more difficult to acquire during those two years than BTSX is today.

The fiat on/off ramps I3 is teasing could make BTSX share price look like it has a hyper-drive compared to BTC.

what is I3 ?

Invictus Innovations Incorporated they are the dev team.

Shouldn't the current focus be on making the BTSX wallet work flawlessly, and getting online wallet/mobile wallet/cold wallet/POS support? I really hope this open bazaar debate is not going to take the focus off our current biggest issue, which is most definitely the wallet and usability situation.

I think I3 have their priorities right. They have stated numerous times that a flawless wallet and a "lite" user friendly wallet are their top priorities.

Minimal resource input for I3 but maximum returns for the development kitty.

Working on something bigger.... and better for everyone.

Company metaphor is...
BitsharesX vs Bitcoin and the winner... BitsharesX

Currency metaphor is...
BitUSD vs Bitcoin and the winner... BitUSD

We win either way!

Plus from what I've heard OB won't be ready for a "mainstream" market until march 2015. If we can get something out before then... BOOM!

I started this thread because I think Open Bazaar is not viable in its current form.    I think I have a more profitable, self-funding, design for achieving the same thing they are.... only better.

1) Users shouldn't have to keep their computers on to "serve" their ads.  That is a non-starter for the masses.
2) Users want auctions as well as fixed price sales / ads.
3) Users want a solid filtering system for items.

So you implement a DAC that allows users to post ads, start auctions, and implement "buy it now" functionality.   The DAC would execute the auction and natively support a local BitUSD / other currencies.

Merchants looking to sell to this audience now have a central place to list their products and get paid in BitUSD....

Implemented properly this DAC would grow far faster than Open Bazaar.. especially with the marketing it could fund to bootstrap.

Not that I want to "compete with everyone out there"... but you have to do it right and Open Bazaar is missing some critical design points.

Cool lets do it! And we shall name it Bitshares Market lol
But seriously if this could be done this would be a huge boost for bitUSD. I think why it will be hard to convince people to accept bitUSD is it has no track record. Having OB accept it would give it a track record. Now if we could make a DAC that competes with OB and accepts bitUSD from day 1 that would be HUGE!

General Discussion / Re: The problem with multi-sig transactions...
« on: October 13, 2014, 09:44:40 pm »
In multisig you have a key that is broken into pieces, put all the pieces together and you have access to a address, this is at least how I understand it.

In this case we can create a simple state transition on who controls the funds and any user can create/sign a transaction that will update that state transition:
1) Initiate transfer
2) Sender confirms transfer *or* Receiver returns transfer
3) *or* Escrow agent resolves dispute... and divides the funds between the parties.

Do you worry that by trying to implement a new type of escrow system you will further divide our system from the current standard of multi-sig?

if the suggested escrow solution would be better (easier to use and understand) we should do it. we don't need to follow always taken ways.

Ahh I see, I don't remember reading that anywhere when I was researching, that's alot of money!

Oh well I guess it cuts the crap out, thanks for the quick reply.

Yea if it was super low or none existent you would see a lot of people try to create junk or scam assets which would just clutter things up.

I disagree. This video is great for getting early adopters and people who have a pretty good understanding of finance. But the masses will watch it and scratch their heads, saying "huh?"
I'm sure they are working on an updated version that will be easy for everyone to understand and they will do a great deal of advertisement for it. Just not this version.

Also another good reference is lendingclub.com which is basically a p2p lending service.
They had multiple referral programs.
Deposit $2,500 and get $25
Deposit $5,000 and get $50
Deposit $10,000 and get $100
Their referral program didn't offer very much for 2 reasons
1. You could earn +10% interest easily
2. At the time of the referral program they had a ~3 year track record

Obviously we will have to have a much high bonus because bitUSD only earns 1.5% and doesn't even have a year long track record.
And maybe for terms and conditions we can do something like if you save $1,000 for 1 year in bitUSD and you get $50 bonus plus ~1.5% interest. And if you refer someone you get an extra $50
