General Discussion / Re: Summary of recent events / merger proposal
« on: October 20, 2014, 08:09:38 pm »
Excellent summary! Here's my rally call.

48 hours is way too fast.  At the very least we need to go for the november target that bytemaster first proposed for closing PTS (the 1 year anniversary of PTS).

The 1 year anniversary is in 16 days: November 5. Stan stated snapshots require two week notice.

Dilution isn't just to fund development, it's to allow capital infusion.

BM's proposal, IIRC, is to have a hard cap on dilution that would require a hard fork to change. And I believe each individual event would be voted on.

Excellent summary! Here's my rally call.

The metamorphosis of PTS:

Stan: The rules are that snapshots give two week's notice.  So if someone decides to do this, you've got several whole days left to make the announcement if you want to hit the Nov 5th anniversary date.

We market it as a 1-year anniversary celebration/evolution/metamorphosis/death.
We will convert the remaining value of PST+AGS to BTSX through dilution.
We announce the death of PTS/AGS and introduce BitSharesNoX.

Perfect grassroots campaign. I can smell the upvotes.

It will be fair but not 100% fair. Who cares. PTS is Chucky Cheese currency.
I'll gladly redeem it for any BTSX, and rid my hands of it once and for all.
And 3i has more skin in the game than any of us.

We have just over 24 hours to take this opportunity. Been looking for a way to get involved?

Let's start moving BTS over to the launch site.

Read my call to action, post your thoughts. The team is waiting for us to build consensus.

We need to focus and wrap up this discussion. Let's start organizing!

My call to action for PTS/AGS

Unified DACS multiply the value of each user:

10 DACs with n users each would have a combined network effect of 10*(n^2), whereas united would be (10*n)^2

By joining forces, we put up a bigger fight against any competition.
That's why Putin wants the USSR back and the USA absolutely does not.
If someone has a growth spurt before us, we're gonna get slapped.

As (St/D)an have said, marketing is waiting on us to agree and get it over with.
I for one am certainly ready to start seeing results from marketing.

Can I sell my vote to Bytemaster or do we have to do it the hard way?

The damage re: inflation has already been done. There is no turning back, we simply have to implement inflation because that is the only way to have the bitshares superDAC be competitive in the long run. Remember that shares will only ever be issued to fund endevours that are long term profitable and result in a net gain for the shareholders. This will only be positive unless you dont trust the developers and delegates. The only negative coming from implementing is the selloff we are seeing right now, that is the damage has already been done.

This. Price will be lowest in uncertain periods. It will bottom out as soon as we start forging a solid path to move forward.

General Discussion / Re: Voting on Hard Forks

It sounds like a small subset of VOTE functionality, implemented directly on the blockchain? +5%

Could we use such a system to vote on proposals such the ones outlined in the "million issues" thread?
Or do we absolutely need to wait for VOTE until we could democratically solve internal "political/social" issues?

I am trying to consolidate down to one plate from many.   Clean up the entire ecosystem... give people one option to get involved.. Buy BitShares.    No more explaining allocations, no more snapshots, etc... just keep it simple.

+5%

What's the opportunity cost of consolidation?

God have mercy on us.

That's the BTS motto :D

Our goal will be to scale BitShares to handle the transaction volume and users... to solve the scaling problem while still remaining decentralized and allowing 0 barriers to entry for competition except our network effect.

In the future, if a unified BTS can't handle the load, could overgrown parts just be moved into a separate DAC and sharedropped 100%?

edit:

I suggest that all future proposals change the subject to "Viability Discussion:xxxxxx" instead of "Proposal".

It seems we're at a fork between expectations and reality. Hopefully we can merge without conflict :)

I agree with the 7 problem points in the OP. They need to be resolved. I think this proposal is a step in the right direction.

Above all, they promise to do everything possible to remain competitive.

The idea that the unspecified default behavior of a company is to promise a fixed set of shares for all time is a vestigial holdover from early currency metaphor thinking.  This is the red herring that needs to be faced squarely.

If a fixed supply hurts the competitive edge, has BTSX has broken that promise?

Some spin BM's comments as "BTSX cannot inflate, therefore DOA".
Is there any remote truth to this, and if so, what are our options for fixing it?

As it turns out, BTC is among the worst of financial benchmarks one could pick. Who knew? :D
