General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion
« on: January 07, 2016, 05:01:26 am »
Account bts-qq123-bts just claimed over 56 million BTS from balances an hour ago and is selling it through Blocktrades.
That must be Dan's first Chinese backer of Innvictus. I forget his name.
Or somebody needing to cover big losses on the Shanghai exchange with the two limit downs this week.

Bo Shen?

That would be my guess.

I sold out around 800 back in November and set an auto buy at around 500, which just got filled. So I guess I should be happy with the profit. Hurrah for me  :-\

Anyone have a clue about why the price just collapsed (again)? Quite slide from 3000.

General Discussion / Re: What's up with BANX
« on: January 05, 2016, 11:31:44 pm »
2 months no dividends either for banx. I would not bet on them.

I'm not, because it never had the best reputation so to speak... However I thought that with BitShares they could come up with something nice, show transparency and prove people were wrong. Just curious about it.

I think the Banx CEO, Mark Lyford was also a founder of lottoshares, I didn't donate but haven't heard much about that lately either

I asked for and promptly received a refund of my LottoShares investment (in BTC).

I thought percentage-based transfer fees were not possible because of stealth transfers?

I expect that a very small percentage of transactions will be stealth.

« on: January 01, 2016, 11:29:57 pm »
Suddenly today my light wallet stopped connecting.

I get this message:

Application initialization issues

API Connection
wss://bitshares.openledger.info/ws   [ + ]
Connection Status   NOT CONNECTED
[ RETRY ]

Retry doesn't work, nor does closing and reopening the wallet.
Any ideas?

Listen, I never said CNX should disappear from bts.  I just don't want them to be the dominant player in both bts knowledge and bts stake.  That is centralization.

Why don't we fund a worker proposal for employing for 2-3 months a C++ developer with these goals:
- thoroughly learn Graphene and its API,
- document it by expanding the existing documentation,
- create working examples of "hello world" smart contracts and operations,
- launch a test network,
- and for the next 2-3 months afterwards play the role of an "ask me anything" expert at our disposal

Estimated budget?

I can't wait to see how excited people are about this proposal when bitshares market cap is sub 4 million... As we just got confirmation from cnx that the value of bts is no longer a priority. Becoming a charity while fighting obamacare is now the main goal.

Also don't forget about the fba's adding constant selling pressure to bts.  You get to pay for all these "features" indirectly  even if you don't support them.  It's truly incredible how bitshares shareholders are raked across the coals.

How exactly, do you think, are "fba's adding constant selling pressure to bts"?

And your mis-characterization of "the main goal" is juvenile sophistry, unworthy of informed debate.

What is your objective?

Here's the problem.  Most people, and i'm going to guess over 90%, are here to try to leverage the overall move of the public to blockchain tech.  They are trying to profit by beating the banks. They are trying to leverage the technical  superiority of bitshares compared to bitcoin to achieve a higher beta return.

A major problem seems to be that hiring devs to add the features and refinements and upgrades that everyone wants takes funding.  How are "they" (those making suggestions/requests) proposing to hire and pay devs to accomplish "their" desires in the order that they propose?

These discussions could be a lot more fruitful if plans for funding of requests accompanied those requests.

If you own BTS now, you own a share of the blockchain technology "as is". You have not paid for future development (the money for that ran out a long time ago).

Correct.  Bootstrapping a business means choosing from the paths through the entrepreneurial maze that are available to you at each point in time.

Each candidate path has its estimated costs and rate of return.  Sometimes the most direct paths exceed our immediate resources. Sometimes we need to take a few detours to acquire the resources needed to pursue the final goal.

To make a DEX successful you need market depth.  To get that you need users.  There are many potential ways to get users and effort expended in any of them is potentially productive.  We look for ways that we can afford and that are likely to pay off sooner than later.

Sometimes you can attract users philosophically while you build features that will attract others economically

We are not given a map to our maze in advance.  The best solution is to explore the maze in parallel as a team of fellow entrepreneurs.  We are not limited to just worker proposals or just outside investments or just creating a compelling reason to work together.  It is the sum of all those efforts that will get us there.

I solved the map:

Yea sorry, that's not how life works for 99.9999999 percent of the world.

That was Alexander the "Great's" way of solving puzzles. But then again, he wasn't big on the Non Aggression Principle (NAP).

Freebie / What is this PM about?
« on: December 29, 2015, 03:04:08 am »
I received the following PM today:

"At 12/28/2015 11:44:31 PM UTC a security code was requested for your account: xxxXxxxX"

What does this mean and what, if any, action should I take?

General Discussion / Re: POLL: Why are you still hodling BTS?
« on: December 25, 2015, 01:17:31 am »
I hold on because I believe in the cause and the pursuit of free market solutions to securing life, liberty, and property.

We are constantly learning and improving. Crypto isn't currently ready for the main stream.  No one has quite figured it out yet.

Graphene and BitShares is an amazing foundation.  We just need to keep focus on a higher purpose and not get caught up in "price".

CNX is 110% behind BitShares and is dropping any and all distractions other than improving the BitShares ecosystem.

Great idea Dan!!! Invest your money in us and then do not pay too much attention to the price (i.e. your money).

@onceuponatime I hope you are listing.... an ideology especially you should prepare yourself to believe in.

Poor Tony. So lost in cynicism.

Do you remember the good ol'  days when Bitcoin dropped from $30 to less that $2? What did you sell at? $20? $15?  $8? Did you hold until it fell to $5? $4? $3? ..... or did you finally give up hope when it went below $2?

Or were you in it for the vision and held and bought more? Like I did. And stuck with it until BitShares came along and moved over to an even better vision.
