General Discussion / Re: poll for the "1 BTS for transfer" proposal

Having percentage based fees with min and max caps is the best solution for the greatest number of interests. It would help to accommodate most of the many different business models that may be interested in making use of our platform. And it supports both the referral scheme and profits for the blockchain.

A new user posted a message on the forum the other day that i thought was revealing. He basically said its the concept is confusing, the website isnt doing a good job of explaining things.

I'm beginning to think our website and application isnt user-friendly or intuitive enough. I dont think there is anything wrong with the technology, i just think we struggle with the presentation. For example, look at ethereums home page and even DASH - both have videos for the users showing you HOW to use it. Wheres ours? We have a lot of text. If we're pushing MAS then everything needs to be easy to use.

Just my 2 cents.

Hello,

New user here. I created an account on your site just to add my 2 cents to this point. I'm new to BitShares and very confused =p I've actually been in bitcoin since 2012 and alts since 2013 but due to the vast amount of alt coins am not able to follow them all. I certainly have heard of BitShares and have know about them since they hit the scene but never took the time to figured out what's going on.

I've spent maybe the last 60-90 minutes on a combination of this site, bitshare's homesite and reddit/r/bitshares and yeah can't really put it all together. I get bits and pieces of it but I feel like I know 2% of what's going on. So yeah - thought I'd share that.

Well I don't know about you, but when I got in to Bitcoin (in 2011) I spent week after week, morning till night, reading everything I could about it.

And BitShares is a lot more advanced and capable of much more than Bitcoin. it's worth a little of your time  :)

I confess to selling from ANGEL today to cover some expenses.   Unfortunately, I sold just prior to the big pump :(

On the brighter side super33 appears to be out of BTS to sell.

This is our CEO?

I guess that if you own shares in Cryptonomex then he is your CEO. Otherwise he's just a fellow shareholder (and the founder) of BitShares.

Are they selling for tax losses now - with the intention of buying back when Privacy Mode is in place in a couple of weeks?

Welcome to BitShares, here is your new desk.  Nevermind the fact that it has the name Brian Page carved into it.

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't mind having Brian and his budget now that there's a product he could actually sell.

And Max Wright doing youtube videos!

How a Small Company in Switzerland Is Fighting a Surveillance Law - and Winning

By Jenna McLaughlin, The Intercept

25 January 2016

A small email provider and its customers have almost single-handedly forced the Swiss government to put its new invasive surveillance law up for a public vote in a national referendum in June.

General Discussion / Re: poll for the percent based transfer fee
« on: January 22, 2016, 06:01:26 pm »
With the information we got today on mumble it seem that the minimum fee for transcations would be around 1 cent.

So it would make sense to use around 2-3 bts as the cheapest fee (around 1 cent but slightly below to have a nice selling agrument).

(Here comes the limit of my hability to express myslef clearly in english ...)

To avoid to hurt referral program, wich is a very sensible subject, we could have something like 150-300 bts as the upward cap fee.

The low cap is easy to decide, it's the minimum fee that doesn't allow anyone to hurt the ecosystem. The top cap is more tricky !!!

To define the top cap, maybe we could create a poll and get an estimation of how much transactions (in volume) we would have with fees of 3 bts  / 30 bts  / 100 and the  maximum fee (let's say 300)

With something like  20 members participating in the evaluation we would have something close to what we would have. With simple math we could determine what would be the highest fee asked to keep (more or less) the same effect on the referral program and probably decide to take something a little higher to be sure.

This would be to avoid guessing in the dark and change it in 5 weeks with all the fudders enjoying the oportunity to say that "we are always changing everything and bla bla bla fud fud fud"

Is that making sense ?

Makes sense, and Bytemaster suggested in the Mumble that the upper cap should be something like the fixed fee now (30BTS).

I would be happy with a cap slightly higher than that, but not so high as to become noncompetitive. Say 60 to 100 BTS.

Honestly, I wonder if we should all donate x% of our BTS and see if we can hire ourselves a CEO and Business Development team. The Decentralized concept is great, but it seems like at any one time, we're either growing incrementally or just flailing in the wind, hoping our sails catch the breeze. When any business does come along that wants to create a project, all it does is further drain the precious savings of this community to try and bootstrap something that ends up with limited volume.

I would donate a healthy percentage of my BTS to hire some businesspeople to run this thing.

And what would be the levers of control to be used by those you hired?  You're not making sense.

@fuzzy       It seems that most of your tips didn't complete.  I didn't receive the two silvertickets that you sent.
