Technical Support / Re: !!! Stupid Questions Thread !!!
« on: September 05, 2014, 01:35:33 pm »
I'll go first:

How do you interpret this? I know it's depicting market depth, but how exactly...

Where it's flat there are no orders at that price - price could move very quickly across that range.

Where its vertical there are single big orders in the market - price will have difficulties crossing that threshold. That's what you call a "wall".

The total height tells you how many orders there are up to a certain price. For example if somebody suddenly sold 50 000 with no price limit, the price would drop to 19. It somebody bought 50 000 it would rise to about 33.

General Discussion / Re: The Market Peg Works!
« on: September 05, 2014, 11:34:10 am »
I'll try to explain how I understand.
Quote
a) the lowest ask is less than 110% of the moving average
AND
Quote
b) lowest ask is more than the call price.

This is to prevent a margin call to be triggered if the spread widens but your call price is still a fair bit above the average trading price.

For example you shorted at 30 BTSX so your call price is 45 BTSX.
Now if the moving average of actual trades was 40 BTSX and the lowest ask went up to 50 BTSX the margin would not be triggered because condition a) is not fulfilled. The lowest ask can rise to these levels without trades actually occuring at that price.
Your margin would only be called if the moving average rose above 40.909 BTSX.

One thing to have clarified by BM: Is the initial margin really 66% (or flipped 150%)? My current experience trading with 0.4.12 is more like 75% (133%)

General Discussion / Re: Where is BitCNY?
« on: September 05, 2014, 07:47:58 am »
The price feed seems to be up and running.

How is this market supposed to start now?
With all the new anti-shorting market rules I don't think we will ever see 10 million BTSX worth of short orders within 10% of the peg.

Can the min market depth be abolished now or at least significantly reduced please?

That version won't even start on my system.
Try the 32 bit version for Windows. The 64 bit seems to have an issue with starting.

General Discussion / Re: Demand for BitUSD: What are the low hanging fruit?
« on: September 04, 2014, 09:51:57 am »
The market cap of BitUSD will always be zero because the net amount of BitUSD issued is zero.
Currently there are about +490 000 BitUSD long and -490 000 BitUSD short.

General Discussion / Re: BitSharesX Wallet Bugs Poll
« on: August 30, 2014, 08:36:04 am »
I would like multiple choices in the poll too please.
I had the windows "No connection" thing but was able to fix that by cleaning everything out, reinstalling, re-syncing and rescanning.

After the fresh installation I imported my private key. Most of my transactions then showed up in the list but all incoming transactions from the market into my account were missing. As a result my balance showed zero. I was able to fix that my importing the json backup. I though the private key was enough?

Now the market page is messed up with "insufficient depth". Ask depth is 1,432,242 BTSX in the header even though I can see a big order @36998 with 17m BTSX. I'm currently doing another rescan, see if that helps.

I also have the jump from market page to overview frequently. When I enlarge the BTSX window until it is wide enough to display Bid, Ask and Margin columns next to each other and then shrink it again it jumps.

0.4.9a on Win7

edit: Rescan didn't help the market page. It seems my market froze when I imported the backup. The chart is not being updated, ask and bid don't change, order history is empty.

One way to absorb the short selling pressure to bitUSD is to throw more bitAssets on the market !!!
Think about it! The only way for someone to "bet" for BTSX if they don't have fresh money/BTC is to short a bitAsset....
Right now there is available only bitUSD, so all the pressure from the BTSX Bulls go there ... If we had bitCNY,bitEUR,bitBTC etc. the pressure would absorb "equally" to all...
so the market peg would be closer to parity for each of one, at least it would helped to some degree...

EXAMPLE:

bitUSD = -30% distance from parity point
bitEUR = -20% distance from parity point
bitCNY = -10% distance from parity point

so a smart BTSX BULL  that want to short a bitAsset because they think BTSX will rise 50%, will likely short bitCNY  ;D
so the end result on profits would be 50-10= 40% profit (when bitCNY gets 1:1 pegged vs CNY)
instead of 50-30= 20% profit (when bitUSD gets 1:1 pegged vs USD)

I know I have oversimplified my thought process but I wanted to give the idea...

Generalised, the current problem is that there are 50m USD worth of BTSX and 0.5m worth of BitAssets (all BitUSD). As long as this ratio is so extreme the BTSX bulls will have an enormous impact on BitAsset peg volatility. More different BitAssets will help close this gap.

My suggestion: Convert the BTC sitting in the Angel fund to BitUSD. Do this at 90%, announce it and make it trackable for everybody.

If this is an arbitrage opportunity, instead of complicating the market rules, why not just take advantage of it?

General Discussion / Re: BitUSD is not an interest bearing bond.
« on: August 28, 2014, 01:02:48 pm »
I disagree that the current discount on BitUSD vs USD is a problem that needs fixing.

Anybody trading in BTSX currently is bullish on BTSX - quite natural since the other's haven't yet heard of it or stay away. This means those who want leverage by far outnumber those who want stability. The current low price of BitUSD is an incentive to attract those who want stability by giving them a 10 % bonus and repelling those who want leverage by penalising them by the same amount. Maybe the term "interest rate" that BM used in this context is a bit misleading, rather think of it as a bonus BitUSD buyers can realise as soon as balance between bulls/bears is achieved.

This bonus has been fairly stable in the last two days, hovering between 5 and 15 %. Once BitUSD will have a trading history that shows its long-term stability the more conservative investors will move in. Also the first short squeeze will caution some of the currently over-optimistic bulls.

General Discussion / Re: Here we go again....4.9 version not working....
« on: August 28, 2014, 08:56:36 am »
Mine is broken again too.

After giving it a seed node it started re-syncing. Number of connections quickly went up to 8 and stayed there. When it hit about 2 days to go it suddenly went back to "Not connected".

Adding nodes worked for me this time. I guess I was too late for the one posted earlier.

Well in theory that would be shorting bitUSD. Although because everybody seems to think the same bitUSD is currently trading about 15 % below parity.

BitShares currently implements a "multi-part" transfer feature in the console.  This feature will generate as many transactions as necessary to transfer the desired amount from one person to another.   These independent transactions are unlinkable and could be going to One person, N people, or simply back to yourself assuming they were broadcast at random intervals rather than "all at once".

Is this already implemented as of 0.4.6? What is the command syntax? I can't find anything in the console help.
