OK, bin dabei.

@liondani: Die Idee mit dem BitBIER ist nicht schlecht - aber wir brauchen ein Gateway...

1) What changes took place in protocol(s) and what is the future of Bitshares/PTS?

Protoshares was rebranded to BitShares PTS about a year ago. The protocol remained unchanged until about 6 weeks ago, when BitShares-PTS was upgraded to a DPOS chain. Check out our forum at http://ptstalk.org/ .

To be precise: the original PoW-chain still exists and is apparently still being mined by some people at a very low rate.

2) What happened to my shares? Do I deserve any new shares? If so, how do I claim them and my snapshot shares?
I only have access to old skool wallet.dat file and its keys.

Your old Protoshares (more precisely: the keys holding them) entitle you to BitShares (from the original genesis as well as in the form of a vested balance sharedropped later on DNS, PTS and VOTE holders). You can import your wallet.dat into the BitShares client to claim your shares. In the same way, you can import your wallet.dat into the new PTS client and claim your new PTS.

You will also receive shares in the upcoming Music and Play DACs, so keep your wallet.dat around.

Apparently the missing steps are

7. which increases tax income for governments
8. which enables them to buy back their bonds (from ECB).

Obviously I don't buy it, because in the past 30 years or so politicians have always avoided step 8 and spent the money elsewhere.

IMO the important question is - Do these "free" feeds allow re-publishing?

Zur Konferenz werd ich nicht gehen, aber wie wär's mit einem Bier außerhalb? Reist Ihr am 28. an? Dann könnten wir uns abends irgendwo treffen.

General Discussion / Re: bitcoin->bitBTC gateway needs testers!
« on: January 21, 2015, 08:26:38 am »
What if there is a delegate.gateway for this that will shoulder any fees in this kind of service, so it will be zero fee, 1:1  bitcoin <-> bitBTC
or even give bonus when transferring bitcoin to bitBTC
Why should the DAC subsidize such a service? It is offered by 3rd parties and used by 3rd parties. Let them handle the fees among themselves.

General Discussion / Re: Import PTS wallet from a year ago
« on: January 21, 2015, 08:18:14 am »
Installed the 0.5 OSX version. I waited for the mentioned block. But the command  "wallet_collect_vesting_balances" isn't  f***** working. I still can't see any correct balance.
Honestly, this whole thing is starting to piss me off…

Try again. You posted more than 1 hour before the hardfork block.

Hey, that was my idea! :-/

What jurisdiction are you based in?

UK / Germany

In Germany you most likely need permission from the BAFin for such a gateway. I can only recommend *not* running that service from here, you may get into serious trouble.

BitShares PTS / Re: Would need some PTS to register my account

sent (registration costs 100 PTS)

Currently, every private key (uncompressed WIF starting with "5"), can control 5 different addresses in BTS:
  • standard BTS
  • uncompressed BTC
  • compressed BTC
  • uncompressed PTS
  • compressed PTS

For every private key, the wallet currently checks all 5 addresses for balances.

But if you import an uncompressed private key, bitshares generates a compressed public key?

That question doesn't really make sense.
compressed / uncompressed are just different representations of the same key. To validate a signature you need *the* public key. You can then create compressed/uncompressed BTC+PTS *addresses* for *the* public key in order to check if the signature is sufficient to claim a genesis balance sharedropped on one or more of these BTS/PTS addresses.
