Technical Support / Re: More Mainstream media of blockchain technology
« on: November 11, 2015, 04:57:32 pm »
Banks want to use the technology to solve some of their security issues.. here is another great article from the other day regarding how banks are doing on that front so far:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/three-charged-for-jpmorgan-data-breach-the-largest-ever/

"According to the indictment, the men stole customer records of more than 83 million customers of JPMorgan Chase & Co. from June 2014 to August 2014."

Outch.. using blockchain technology would have solved this problem... or rather prevented it from happening at all.

However.. all that does is provide more security for the banks to continue to turn out fiat.. it does not give them an alternative currency.. which is what BitShares is aiming to provide. Banks are pegged to the fiat, we (bitshares) are pegged to a dream of providing a currency ecosystem where everyone prospers.. not just the banks, governments, or <insert your bid industry of choice here entity>.

Also.. they are still centralized.. we (Bitshares) are decentralized. A different dynamic in power.

Bottomline.. it validates the underlying technology of what we have, but it doesn't change the uphill battle we face in creating a new currency that is valued the same way fiat is and adopted in similar fashion.

Thanks for explaining this to me. I am that much closer to fully understanding the value Bitshares has

It's actually a lot cooler than you think OP.

In a computer game, the items you collect or buy from the in-game shop have no value outside of the game. If you bring them into bitshares as UIAs, then you get an instant virtual economy for your in game items!

I'm glad someone get's what I was talking about ^_^

I don't like mainstream media but I stumbled upon CNBC giving more coverage of banks using blockchain technology. What does this mean once blockchain technology increases in demand? Is this good news for Bitshares?

@Freebieservers was digibyte built using bitshare technology?

I think twitter would be most effective if a hashtag was created for all bitshare users to rally behind.

Disqus is another good commenting platform to use.

Since many websites including bignamed one like ign.com are using it as their commenting system.

And a simple google search of "blog comments powered by Disqus + (keyword)" would load any websites talking about your topic of choice using the disqus commenting system. In this case you can replace keyword with bitshares or bitshares 2.0 I hope this helps ^_^

Why not use Quora? Though that does defeat the purpose of remaining anonymous :-\

I'm a gamer and I'm trying to tie in Bitshares with gaming. Please critique my understanding of Bitshares that way I am not pushing out false info.

If we can make assests like BitUSD etc then could the same be done for a particular video game? Or would an entirely new altcoin (built upon bitshares) be needed to created?

My idea about the future of video games is, if online gaming today was a feat to achieve for game developers in the past. I thought game currencies would be the next frontier.  That is where Bitshares comes in. So players collecting coins in a mario game or rings in a sonic game. A cryptocurrency for that game could be exchange by some reserve gaming currency let's says Bitshares.

Then Bitshares can be exchanged into a currency into another video game.

So the flowchart is:

Bitrings (currency from a sonic game and a name I just came up with) get's exchanged for Bitshares.

Bitshares is then traded for Gold in World of Warcraft.

Is this possible with Bitshares? For I am not sure if it is.

I figure using video games would be a great way to relate to millennials since they would definitely need to be or already are hip to crytocurrencies in a way. Not to mention most online video games already use some sort of currency. I thought Bitshares would thrive in a space like this.

BitShares Millionaire Makers http://uk.businessinsider.com/reddit-tries-to-create-a-millionaire-by-getting-a-million-people-to-donate-one-dollar-2015-7?r=US&IR=T  :P

I'm concerned with the concept since Zerohedge just talked about this earlier today about the "begging economy" :/

You can also Deposit Bitcoin directly within the BitShares client from your account page.

There are a couple options to choose from. CCEDK and Blocktrades   Each has there own BTC token and market for BTS:xBTC

I've used OPENBTC. no problems.  Just check for the best prices and available volume.
https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/market/BTS_OPENBTC

For best prices you might check here:

Really? I'll check it out. When you say client. That means I have to download the software. Not using bitshare in a internet browser correct?

I used to use shapeshift.io to get BTS but I see they stop doing that exchange a while ago. Are there any recommendations for a newbie like me to get BTS?
