General Discussion / Re: poll for the percent based transfer fee
« on: January 21, 2016, 05:09:24 pm »

Please give me an example of an existing system where you can move a large amount of money on pay-as-you-go basis without paying substantial transfer fees.
And please include:
- cost of covering the price volatility risk (so for bitcoin transfers add the cost of hedging volatility and converting from and to fiat)
- cost of maintaining a bank account (so for legacy systems add the monthly cost of keeping a business account with a bank)

The problem is that you don't transfer money in bitshares, you transfer tokens which represent money. To buy a bitcoin with fiat on bitshares you need:

- deposit fiat to gateway -> pay fee
- send fiat IOU to bitshares wallet ->  pay fee
- exchange fiat IOU for BTC IOU -> pay fee
- withdraw BTC IOU into gateway -> pay fee
- send BTC to bitcoin wallet -> pay fee

These fees add up. Ideally, it would be good if all transactions on blockchain were dirt cheap, but how do we motivate people to run witness nodes then? Is there any other way than paying them BTS?

It buys BTS collateral of lowest shorts, not BTS on the orderbook.

Is there any reason why the system should not check the order book first, and if there are better offers than settlement price, take them first, then go buy lowest collateral? It would really seem to be a good deal for everybody.

What fee are we talking about here? Trading fee or transfer fee?

General Discussion / Re: UIA Creation

UIA should exist only if there is an outstanding balance between the issuer account and other account(s). UIA which is returned to the issuer account is actually "burned". Just like any IOU.

Proposal from @clayop:

Anyway I want to listen your opinions on lowering order creation fee and charging fees on MPAs

My comments:
I think it makes a lot of sense .. keep the constant fee to prevent spam and get fee from filles orders as percentage ..
Then .. after maker we have the option to redirect a percentage of those profits to those that provide liqudity ..
And the percentage could be kept below that of other exchanges .. new selling point wouls then be .. cheapest exchange .. and safest .. and decentralized
Could be good for liquidity ..

@monsterer: would that be fine foe you?

In order to decentralise metaexchange on the bitshares chain, I would need 0 fees (except for order fill). That's the only real way, otherwise I would have to pay all the transaction fees from metaexchange's profits, which could be exploited quite easily.

If you don't want to pay anti-spam fee from your profit, you have to provide some other anti-spam solution.

Something similar to bitmessage ..
But how would BTS ever be profitable then? We end up having a token that you can only use as collateral and has no other benefits .. am i missing something?

What's wrong if it is just a collateral token?

General Discussion / Re: Mt Gox > Cryptsy - Time for BTS?
« on: January 17, 2016, 02:54:24 pm »
Why is BitShares not ready to offer protection against Mt. Gox / account hacking right now? Isn't it only a matter of educating admins (such as those for metaX, Blktrades & ccedk) on how to use the hierarchical account structure, i.e. multisig? Or are there still bugs in the GUI render that crippled?

The only way to be completely free of counterparty risk is to use pegged assets; that's where bitshares real strength lies.

+5% make bitDOGE bitDASH bitETH bitLTC bitNNN available tomorrow!

Exchanges won't be creating any bitassets because of the amount of collateral required, specially when they can just create an UIA. It would be the best option but they won't do it.

If exchange issues UIA, it would need to make market for it. Issuing MPA instead is not a bad option for exchange. Yes, exchange would have to keep BTS collateral, but no trust would be involved in the process.

I asked for a cost to benefit analysis.

However given the idea to 'test'.. what is an even better idea is to research the market.. rather than taking a black eye of being 'unstable' in 'tests'.

I would propose if we really want to know what the market thinks of our fees or fees in the market place in general some market research should be done that provides us with real data from end users.

This should be among the first steps we take when we make decisions like this in order to work on real data instead of feelings.

I could get a researcher to undertake this work if you guys would support a worker proposal to gather such data. We are probably taking about 2 weeks and about $1500 to get the job done considering the data points and market size available.

Otherwise we can just keep playing roulette with Bitshares pricing that thus far as not landed on anything that resulted in significantly good results. Then again, we can keep spinning and may get lucky.

This is a very good, scientific approach, worth to undertake. Would be very interesting to look at results. Also, what is a cost of bitshares transaction in current conditions? According to blockchain.info, a cost of bitcoin transaction is $6. What about bitshares?

If BTS had fiat on-ramps, I would spend $10,000 of my own money right now to buy ads proclaiming BitShares to be Bitcoin's successor. Without fiat on-ramps, the whole thing is irrelevant because we are stuck in Bitcoin's inferno.

+5% And they have to be everywhere, in every country, such that people can cash in/out in local currency through local payment systems.

The issue is that it’s now officially impossible to depend upon the bitcoin network anymore to know when or if your payment will be transacted, because the congestion is so bad that even minor spikes in volume create dramatic changes in network conditions

That's great. This means that I can't withdraw my funds from bitshares in reliable way. I can't deposit in reliable way either. Where are those fiat ramps?

General Discussion / Re: Reasons for Lowering Fees
« on: January 14, 2016, 11:29:45 pm »

Charging percentage based fees just links us back to legacy finance...  There is no advantage in crypto if it is going to cost me $1000 to buy $100,000 of something whether I use cash or crypto.

Set 1% fee with $1 maximum. This will encourage large transactions (more than $100) and discourage smaller transactions, but not hard enough to prohibit shopping in a dollar store.

Minimum, like $0.001, will also be required to prevent spam.

Account -> Assets -> Create Asset

И не надо так нервничать.

П.С. В верхнем правом углу в openlegder есть кнока Help. Читай.
