Follow My Vote / Re: We Need to Fix Our Broken Election System
« on: May 06, 2016, 03:29:53 pm »
Quote
Coming to the polls for the first time or at any time should not be a challenge. It should be as easy as showing up and filling out a ballot. And when the results show irregularities, they should be thoroughly investigated by the press and by an independent agency that holds responsible parties to task for any attempts at election fraud. Until then, every broken machine, every disenfranchised voter, every discrepancy between the exit polls and the final results will suggest malfeasance. Fix the system. We all know it’s broken. Tolerating it only exacerbates the problem and leads to more and more disillusionment that results in less and less voters. That couldn’t be what we want, right?

@CLains thanks so much for bringing this to our attention. I have invited you to our FMV slack channel. please consider accepting the invite and posting this kind of stuff there as well.

You need to build from the source, since you have a Ubuntu machine, it's not hard.

This guide http://docs.bitshares.eu/bitshares/installation/Build.html

thanks abit! will give it a shot!!

General Discussion / Update From Adam

Hi Guys! I know it's been awhile since I last posted. Things are going really well for us, and I want to reassure you that we are doing all that we can to promote the benefits of building your business on BitShares. We actually had world famous blogger Robert Scoble visit our offices earlier this week and do a livestream video with Nathan and I. We deservedly pushed BitShares pretty heavily during the livestream. It's received 5k+ views in the past couple days and has created a wave of contact requests via our website from companies interested in partnering with us and reporters wanting to interview us to more about our project.

Check out our recent blog post to learn more about the event and watch the livestream video!

https://followmyvote.com/silicon-valley-has-new-competition-and-its-not-who-you-think/

At this point, we are actually having some challenges in working with BitShares that I'm hoping you guys can help me with. My goal is to be able to approve a proposed transaction from another BTS user that has shared account permissions over one of our accounts. I've talked to some of the core devs and they stated that this isn't something that is supported in the GUI yet, and that someone was considering submitting a worker proposal to get this feature added in. If that does happen, I would really appreciate it if you would all vote to approve that proposal. And, in the meantime, I was hoping that someone could point me to some documentation that covers how to get the CLI wallet up and running, export the necessary private keys from my BitShares 2.0.160106 light wallet, import the keys into my CLI wallet, and then approve the proposed transaction. I have access to a Mac, PC, and Linux (Ubuntu) workstations if that helps at all.

Could/would someone please help a brother out?

Random Discussion / Re: Follow my vote selling BTS?
« on: October 28, 2015, 04:51:26 pm »
I just wanted to thank the BitShares community for continuing to take interest in Follow My Vote's activities.

Also, to set the record straight, Follow My Vote has yet to claim over half of our vesting stake, which was allocated to fund the development of voting software for the BitShares community, nor have we spent all of the stake that we have claimed to date. We have stake stored within multiple BitShares accounts and on multiple cryptocurrency exchanges. Any of the claimed stake we have sold to date has been to support the development of said voting software. On that note,  later this week, we will be releasing the code we've developed to date as open source and will be publishing the code to our github repo at that time.

Several months ago, I also pledged 1M BTS to be spent on helping to directly market BitShares to the world. To this end, we will be working with the team at FreebieServers.com in the days ahead to sponsor a BitShares branded gaming tournament.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on all of the above.

Follow My Vote / Re: San Francisco looking for new voting system
« on: August 26, 2015, 04:33:06 pm »
Yes, we are very aware of this RFI...

Follow My Vote is a member of the California Association of Voting Officials. They analyzed the RFI and submitted the response, which can be found here:

http://sfgov2.org/ftp/uploadedfiles/elections/rfi/20150820_CAVO.pdf

Upon review, you will see a push for leveraging open-source voting systems. You may also note that Brent Turner, President of CAVO, refers to the Dechert Design, which is a paper ballot printing system. I've spoken to Alan Dechert at length about his design, which is based on an old paradigm of what is possible from a technology perspective prior to the advent of blockchain technology. Now that we've entered the dawn of a new era in technology that allows for secure and transparent online voting, even the "state of the art" Dechert Design is in need of a complete overhaul, which is something I will be connecting with Brent about in the days ahead.

On a somewhat related note, I recently spoke to Jeff Drobman, whom recently ran for Secretary of State in California this past November. Although he ran and lost, he was able to get around 5% of the votes, which is not too shabby. He came up with his own design and was running on a platform where the sole focus was to see to it that an online voting system was successfully implemented within the state. When discussing his design, it was clear that he understands the challenges that are involved in designing a secure and verifiable online voting solution.

My conversation with Jeff was actually a very refreshing conversation. During our discussion, he stated that I we were the only company that he's spoken to that actually gets it and that he considers us to be leading the movement with respect to the recent push for end-to-end verifiable online voting systems, which is now being officially recognized as the future of voting:

http://editions.lib.umn.edu/electionacademy/2015/07/13/new-report-examines-future-of-internet-voting/

We're at a very interesting time within the industry and I believe we are truly making a turning point towards the type of solution we've been proposing all along, which is end-to-end verifiable online voting systems.

What other than worker proposals which are anyway part of 2.0 would "Follow My Vote tools" allow to vote for?
I think he is talking about the possibilities to vote on-chain in general. Those would also include, witnesses, delegates, and most (when not all) fees of the system ..
^
That is all part of 2.0. I couldnt come up with something BTS stakeholders could vote on other than what you mentioned.

The built in 2.0 voting is all directly chain actionable, but it would be helpful to have easy ways to determine shareholder opinion on more general things also.  It's awkward to use witness or delegate voting to generate consensus on a big picture strategy or vision for the network upon which actionable vote proposals will be based.  Follow My Vote should provide light weight, verifiable shareholder polling and voting to help solve those problems.

We are working on it!!

Hi All,

I'm just getting back from Freedom Fest 2015. We had an amazing time making connections and spreading the word about BitShares and Follow My Vote, details of which we will be mentioning in a blog post recap at https://followmyvote.com/blog/ later this week.

Ahead of the post, I wanted to share a spot I did with SHR Media, where I had an opportunity to talk about Follow My Vote and BitShares and the voting system we're working together to build. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think!!

https://www.spreaker.com/user/sackheadsradio/follow-my-vote-freedom-fest

P.S. don't worry... I directly plug BitShares quite nicely at the tail end of the radio spot!

Way ahead of you Akado! Good looking out though.

Talks with the Pirate Party are progressing quite nicely. Will update the community with more details soon.

Great Stan, but don't you think it is odd that people here start posts like these if there is all this daily activity going on?

If would be great if FMV took a moment to post about their efforts here, at least post links to their new YouTube videos, like this one from the CEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM0Osp_rnkQ and perhaps there would be more than 11 views in the two weeks since it was posted to YouTube.

FMV Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9y_DlpO5Em5QPkDKmZ8N-Q

Thanks for the update ..
What I'd like to see is a status update thread for VOTE and FMV with kind of regular (biweekly or so) updates .. would that be possible?

You're welcome! To answer your question, I met with @Gentso1 today and we discussed at length the community's desire to receive more regular updates from me. He has graciously agreed to serve as a go between for me and the rest of the community, as needed. To this end, we will be meeting on a regular basis moving forward, so that I can share FMV updates with him, which he will relay to to community via the forums. He will also be standing in for me, as needed, during regularly scheduled mumbles events/dev hangouts in order to keep the community more informed.

i really appreciate you helping to promote our content via the bitshares forum. I have to admit, we could be doing a much better job at this and @slickwilly and I will do so moving forward.

What we have here is a common problem when someone gets paid upfront for something, in this case the 30 Million no strings attached BTS...
As a final update, when taking into consideration that I won’t be able to dedicate as much time to directly marketing for BitShares as I originally intended...

Since signing up his interns and a couple people from the meetup several months ago, Follow My Vote has 0 referrals.
Two months since Adam has discussed anything related to FMV on this forum, in fact the OP here is the first FMV related discussion on this board in over a month.

Meanwhile, competition is starting to heat up...
http://www.v-initiative.org/
http://www.bitcongress.org/
http://liquidfeedback.org/
https://agoravoting.com/
All mentioned in this article http://kernelmag.dailydot.com/issue-sections/staff-editorials/11334/bitcoin-online-voting-issues/ too bad FMV wasn't.

In my opinion, attempting to evaluate my contribution to the community solely based on how many referrals Follow My Vote has generated for BitShares makes no sense at all.

I've been working hard, full-time, day in and day out, in an attempt to make BitShares and Follow My Vote successful. I'm working with Fuzzy now to coordinate a good time for a mumble to bring the community up to speed with respect to what's been going on behind the scenes. With respect to this particular article, if you read the article, it says...

"The V-Initiative isn’t alone when its comes to cryptocurrency voting. Similar efforts to use Bitcoin to enhance online elections have been put forth by organizations like BitCongress, Liquid Feedback, and Agora Voting."

Perhaps we aren't mentioned because we aren't planning on integrating with the Bitcoin blockchain and therefore wouldn't fit nicely in this story. Integrating with BitShares is actually our key differentiator and advantage that we have in that we can claim that we are the only truly decentralized solution.

We've actually been mentioned recently in cryptonewsdaily.com (http://cryptonewsday.com/new-australian-political-party-to-use-blockchain-voting-for-policies/) ahead of BitCongress.org, so it's not like we are not in the conversation.

At this stage in the game, forming alliances and partnerships are crucial. If you pay attention to our blog (https://followmyvote.com/what-is-the-open-source-initiative-osi/), you'll see that an organization that Follow My Vote is a part of, CAVO (California Association of Voting Officials), has recently joined OSI (Open Source Initiative). Just as the V-Initiative has been doing, one things that we are focusing on is breaking into academia, starting with Virginia Tech, the globally known top-tier university that both bytemaster and myself graduated from.

As stated above, I'd be happy to discuss these updates and other during the next mumble session. Until then, please keeping in mind, I am working hard for you and the rest of the BitShares community.

General Discussion / Re: follow my vote and workers
« on: May 14, 2015, 10:21:46 pm »
The one thing about posts like these is that they usually get Adam to post something in response, he even pledged 3.33% of his allocation to supporting Bitshares in some way last time...and although he has not followed through in the two months since he did manage to get a bunch of  +5%.
@adam could you please reactivate/republish the 1 bitshares video Brian Page created on the BitShares Youtube account, whoever on your team that removed/deactivated it probably misclicked because there is really no other explanation why it disappeared.

i just looked into this. it appears that someone made the video private at some point. i went ahead and made it public again...

here's the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A6mQQdHUZI

thanks

i think i get the way you want to go. I don't expect to get California to use BitShares soon, but to get the pirate party or other organisations who want to make consensus voting better i understand it and i like the idea!

so when will we get the voting for the BitShares Community? Then we are really the first consensus driven community.

Agreed! I definitely see this as one of the plausible ways we could gain some momentum and bring alot of utility to the bitshares blockchain. I will have to circle back with the core devs to see when voting will be available for the BItShares Community... from what I understand, this was to be released with all of the other voting functionality, which we are targeting to have completed by the end of 2015.

Ak, thanks for the updates and the excellent videos!

I know that you took heat recently from parts of the bitshares community, but these updates definitely make it look like the Bitshares community's investment in FollowMyVote was worth it!  We just need to be able to see whats going on! :)

Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

Thank you so much Ander! I really appreciate the positive comments. In the spirit of keeping the community update on our activities.. we just hosted a BitShares meetup in Blacksburg, VA last night which went very well. Slick_willy should be publishing a blog post on bitshares.org and posting an update on the forums later today!
