Random Discussion / Re: EOS Price

Lots of people didn't realize that it will be trading from day 6. They are like: "look, it's on Exchanges already". I bet there are some investors among them, too. Not so smart money....

First Impression: Seems they have a trollbox  8).

And you really just made it "wrong". As stated yesterday already and as anybody should know going evangelizing: This is only true if you spin up your own API-Server aka. full-Node. As soon as anybody sees fit he will ddos openledger.info into oblivion - and than the Y of X persons that followed your advice will say not so nice things to their trollbox friends.

Just sayin. If we really want to bring out the message big time we have to do it right.

I guess what I was trynig to say is that if OpenLedger gets DDoS for example you can always just import your wallet to another server with different API so your funds are not at risk...

The article doesnt really go into these kind of details, I think BTS has a lot of info and its hard for newbies to digest it.

I plan on making another article on decentralized governance, which is another value proposition of BTS

Sounds good - but please get the facts straight. "Importing the the wallet to another server with different API" is surely not what you want to do.

The DEX-Trader that plays it safe Uses
1. A local Install of the ligth wallet
2. His own API-Server (aka fullnode) he has on azure or locally
3. he puts the address of his API-Server in the ligthwallet Configuration

Something like this.

Also I guess there are quite some possibilities to build redundancy into the Light Client also. So that if one API-Server goes down it switches over to the next out of a list of servers that are available und distributed geographically and operated by different entities but have a signature that can be verified by the client that the codebase is not manipulated and whatsoever.

Or they go over to Azure and do the one-button-spin-up, if setting up a full node on it's own is too complicated or lengthy. (which is the case mostly).

Maybe this is already adressed somewhere?

Otherwise  +5%, of course  :-*

Are they selling for tax losses now - with the intention of buying back when Privacy Mode is in place in a couple of weeks?
They saw the Exit-Sign while Chinese are going crazy stiring up Volume. My Impression  8)

Finally  :). Now I'm gonna test it and start reaching out for one special niche I have in mind since months.
What I have in mind is tackle small software-developers which sell premium Addons for Joomla (just an example). It is common there to pay via paypal and i guess they will take their cut and I hope that openledger can be cheaper. Developers are all over the world and it's hard to estimate volume but there are plenty of them. As "real" invoices with VAT are normally not available via Paypal also, this should not be a point of concern.

Advantage in reaching out to them should be that you should find a tech-savvy target group and I could imagine that some would maybe use it out of curiosity if they don't have to deal with all the details and without having to deal with volatility (it should not be necessary to even mention it).
Of course  a broken down wallet-interface is still needed, otherwise it will be too much information in the interface.

Then of course interested developers can sign up new users via their own faucet and maybe give a discount to people who use this way of payment processing.

For some special Cases there is one piece of the puzzle still missing:
- What about reoccurring payments based on Smart Contract or sthg?

Shit just got interesting over at BTC38....

Don't think this is trend but a bump in the road. Yesterday was the same it seems.

Wouldnt Bitshares be a good candidate to promote other than those random no use shit coins?
For sure .. do you speak Mandarin?
We do have a large Chinese community as well .. but it seems most of them have lost patience and left ..

Step back and do a read up and google on Bitshares as if you don't know anything about it. Reputation is devastated and there is a number of people not only "not liking" but straight away "hating" bitshares. I can imagine this will be the same in the mandarin part of the I-net, if not even worse - given the venom spiten around until some months ago from some chinese accounts. This is of course a concern for the literate investor (and for a reason) even though he maybe still comes here and gets a different impression.

Me too I couldn't explain it to someone running an exchange because I have never tried to fully understand what someone running an exchange is doing technically in depth.

The point with the wallet server is a good example. Next time one could try to explain step by step how they would operate their wallet servers differently.
Taken Open-Ledger and OPEN.BTC I would assume they own a BTC-adress which holds the exact number of OPEN.BTC, shoudn't they?

So while am at it: When I look at the open-ledger Site I don't see a link to this said BTC-Account in some BTC-Block explorer and the possibility to request a signed message as proof.
Shouldn't for the sake of transparency that is always mentioned be an easy way for me as a potential user of Openledger to verify that those BTC really are "there" and not just at the moment where my OPEN.BTC leave some gateway into my BTC-Wallet-address?

OK, Asset-Explorer Shows, that 70 OPEN.BTC are in existence. Will ask ronny for the address, maybe I'm missing something.
However this whole thing should be made clear and easy to understand. I'm a regular lurker since 2013 and consider myself not as dumb as my nick suggests  :o

I'm still new. But is it possible those who have not inserted their BTS wallet into the new 2.0 wallet affected the price? I haven't done so yet since I simply forgot. But I'm still holding onto my BTS

Yes of course it would. When these users start using their bts2 and generate tx fees in the network, bts2 will earn revenue and profit.  How can it not increase in value and price?

Well but that's the thing. There's not many places where people can spend bts/smartcoins right now.

The way I see it, what we need is a MASSIVE campaign, a push by as many enthusiasts as we can get to get online stores to accept bts/smartcoins.
You can help too! If you're self employed, offer to be paid in BitEUR (or whatever) and give the client a 10-15% discount. That'll make them think!

That's what I have In mind but the other way round. I want to use bitEUR for recurring payments I do to 3rd parties of which at least 2 would maybe interested in the concept and have enough geek background to maybe really consider it.
But first I need a place to redirect them to which explains everything in an easy manner and 2nd thing will be an easy to use offramp because they will only consider using it If they can easily exit to EUR anytime. And of course it has to be at least slightly cheaper for all involved parties than using Paypal for instance. Liquidity will be crucial also... Are we already there?

Random Discussion / Re: Are you going to upgrade your Operating System?
« on: August 27, 2015, 09:54:15 am »
What operating system do you prefer to run your browser and wallet on?

IMO it is this one (or derivative works).. Far from perfect, but it really is a necessity.  Ubuntu seems to be the path of least resistance and keeps the core principals intact.   I think any average awake individual will have to come to some sort of conclusion like this especially when they see their freedom and rights just slipping away due to corporate greed taking advantage of lazy people just looking for a easy fix.  I intend to keep my privacy and freedom even if takes up some of my time to learn how to use it...  Ultimately I became a console "power" user and I'm glad, I am confident this investment will pay off for the rest of my life and perhaps even then some.

http://www.ubuntu.com/about/about-ubuntu/our-philosophy

Ok, so you don't need to be a console power user..  But you know how to type.  The console is full of great ideas... nothing to run from...  At least with Ubuntu you can defer using it when necessary until you have the time and mindset to learn it...   Let me know if I can help.  I think we will be safer here in terms of security and privacy.

Is this question simply targeting on  the philosophy of OSes or do you draw conclusion for the development process from this thread? Is it of Importance on which OS the wallet is run?

Thanks and Regards,

Matthias
