Technical Support / Bitshares 2.0 on Ubuntu 64
« on: March 12, 2016, 06:53:30 am »
Hi,
I downloaded, installed and correctly ran latest bitshares client for Ubuntu (downloaded from bitsahres main website).

Everything installed fine and I imported my old 0.9.3 wallets fine as well. All working good.

But now when I try to run the program it starts and loads for about 1 second before closing. No error message. Can't get it to open now.

Anything I can do?

What is the default install directory? Pretty sure I made a working backup when it was running but what files should I back up from the install directory to make sure that it is definitely backed up before I try reinstall or anything else.

Thanks.

Appreciate the transcribed text. Probably would have never listened to this interview but enjoyed reading it. Learnt a bit too and actually made me more of a believer in bitshares than before. Very handy resource to get out there!

Ok, so my wallet_check_sharedrop worked.  Does this mean I don't have to do anything and I can just wait for the payouts?

Can someone please clarify this? How do the shares come through?

Should there be added incentive for publishing feeds? Possible weak spot here...

I think once it gets competitive enough, delegates that don't publish feeds would not stand a chance of being voted in. It should sort itself out?

That gives me three very large numbers on three separate lines. These are the amounts I can expect to get?
How can I work out how much they are in BTS (I assume they have every possible decimal point for the system).

Thanks!

So I've only briefly looked into the new merger with Vote + DNS into the old BTSX eco system. One thing I'm not quite sure is how to claim the new amount of BTS that were released and that I was expecting to get through AGS for DNS + VOTE.

I tried importing the address that I donated with into BitsharesX application and I haven't received any new BTS. Am I missing something?

Where can I read about why the supply is changing?

I do like this approach as a starting point (but there definitely is a whole new group of user bitsharesX should aim at concurrently or a short time after).
6 months ago had you told me that bitcoin costs $657,450,000 per year currently to keep it operational I may have thought twice about dumping as much money into it as I did. Not many users are aware of this and that Bitshares not only solves this, but is deflationary for the main currency BTSX. Amazing!

This stuff sells itself. Honestly the problem with bitsharesX is it sounds too good to be true after dealing with bitcoin. Seriously.

If people post there with the relevant info gliss will add it or correct.
BitUSD on there would be sweet. So you would need what info page you want to link to etc.

I've added a Charts page with some new stats, it's a work in progress but for now you'll find time plots of BTSX transaction values, BTSX transaction count, total number of accounts, and new accounts per hour.

Such an awesome site, I'm using it daily.

General Discussion / Re: Interest on BitUSD - A Proposal for Review

Why require a minimum of a month?

I'm not anywhere near the same maths or trading level as you guys but these are my thoughts.

- Instead of selling their BitAssets for BTSX in a bubble or in a panic during a technical problem. BitAsset holders are now incentivised to hold and not create as much volatility.

- Not sure about this one, but doesn't giving people an incentive to hold, take some BitUSD out of general circulation so there will be less available for shorts looking to cover for example thereby increase demand and making BitUSD average closer to the peg than the few % below I hear it averages now?

- Doesn't this proposal reward savers over traders?
Just like keeping your funds for any length of time on a centralised exchange is risky, till BTSX has proved itself so too is holding BitAssets. (BitAsset savers take on a lot of the risks of BTSX with few of the benefits) Maximising their reward attracts genuine saving not just trading demand for BitAssets.

Don't we want more people trading not hording? More trading = closer to peg value over time especially when the price is moving. IF people need to hold onto their bit assets it discourages trading which decreases liquidity. There should be no minimum time. Also more trading = more fees, which is also good.

Unless I'm missing something?

I don't like the word 'rewards' - sounds like a cheap marketing ploy that I ignore from my brick and mortar banks. I like the expression 'dividends through profit sharing' or something along those lines.  It subconsciously emphasizes the fact that DACs are companies that are designed to earn profits, and that those profits are being returned to the user. It also implies that the size of the dividends are dependent on the profitability of the company.  +5%

+5% That sounds perfect to me.

This is awesome. Why would you hold bitcoin over bitbtc if this gets implemented for that asset as well? So cool!!

Just don't call it rewards anything but that!

Edit: dividends makes sense to me, it's essentially what you are getting, can't see why that would cause legal concern.
