BitShares holders would be in much worse shape if BitUSD holders didn't see their wealth hedged well during the BTSX price fall.

Very true.  If the peg had broken as a result of this drop, we would be down over 50% today instead of 10-15%.

I predict the bottom is around 0.01-0.015. We have some down to go so it's a good time to either buy BTS or if you're in BTS then buy BitUSD. BTS will go down because Bitcoin is going to keep going down whether or not people sell BTSX.

Well, we hit 1.57 cents this morning.

You say bitcoin is going to keep going down, others say its going to go up...
I agree that if bitcoin were to go to $200, BTSX would go to 1 cent.

I see bitcoin rising back over $400 however.  Of course, I could be wrong again. :D

At 2 cents a share, a 100% paid delegate makes ~$30k USD a year.  As Rune said, this isn't enough to poach someone.

If the market cap went up a lot, one delegate would be plenty, but for now, we could potentially see a developer that we wanted create multiple delegates, and voters who wanted to hire them would vote for all their delegates.

Here are my 7 reasons why you should buy bitshares:

1) Like Bitcoin, it is an implementation of the Blockchain technology: A decentralized ledger.

2) DPoS.   DPoS doesn't waste money through inflation in order to secure the network.  DPoS > PoW.

3) BitUSD.  BitUSD provides stability and solves bitcoin's problem where merchants dont want to hold it due to price volatility.  It even provides yield!

4) Paid Delegates.  Bitshares has the ability to fund its own development through paid delegates.  This allows Bitshares holders, by majority vote, to elect someone to be paid (through inflation) to do whatever we are hiring them for.   This gives us the ability to hire developers to improve Bitshares.  It could even result in us hiring many developers away from other projects where they wouldn't get paid, poaching the talent from any competition.  Not: Inflation caused by this is maxed at a rate lower than bitcoin inflation.  Realistically it will likely be more like 2% or so, which is quite low.

5) Speed.   10 second transaction times (or even lower) with DPoS is greatly superior to bitcoin's 10 minute transaction speed or Litecoin's 1 minute.

6) BitAsset Exchange.  Other BitAssets like bitGLD are useful to allow exposure to whatever price volatility you want.  Bitshares is an exchange, not just a currency.  Additionally, trading fees are used to burn shares of BTSX, reducing the overall supply (counteracting dilution!)

7) Other features.   Anonymity (TITAN), and Upcoming features such as VOTE, DNS, Turing complete scripting.

Lol .. yeah .. thats what we are trying to tell the the whole time .. WORST case 8% .. and only if stakeholders agree

Realistic case...probably 2% or less right now.

And yet, they reduced the BTS market cap by 50% because of this.  Markets are so irrational sometimes.

I'm very reassured by this. :)
I was expecting 8% inflation but now I'm expecting 2%.

Therefore, at 2 cents per BTS, a max pay delegate gets paid just over $30k USD per year.
At higher BTS prices its obviously higher.

At 5-10x current market share price, a paid delegate makes significant money and we can hire develops away from other coins, etc.

At 100x current market share price, a 100% paid deleagte funds a huge marketing campaign, or a whole team of developers.  At that point we would probably have most of our paid delegates not actually be at 100%, but a much lower percentage.  (Which also means that inflation will be a lot lower).

It seems to me that even if we elect every member of the dev team as a 100% paid delegate, plus the marketing team as 100% paid delegate, plus MethodX for his reddit ad campaign, plus a few others, we are probably STILL only looking at a ~2% or so inflation per year.

Wow, that is quite low!

The dumpers have been SERIOUSLY overreacting to this change.

It seems like bitshares is crashing, why is everyone selling?  Has the bubble burst?

The end of august price, which had gone up 500% in a couple weeks, was too high.  It had to correct, and this is part of that.

This is now the panic sell at/near the bottom.  (Hopefully.  But its of course possible that people could panic even harder and sell it down further).   Obviously if I could pick the exact bottom I would be doing much better at this than I am.

I'm trying to better understand how delegate pay works.

Delegates only get paid for the blocks that they create, correct?  (So each delegate gets their turn once per 101 blocks, and they get paid then?)

Therefore, a delegate running at 100% pay would get 50 BTS per time their turn came, which happens once every 101 blocks?

If this is true, then if ALL 101 delegate were elected with 100% pay, inflation would be around 8% a year (simlar to bitcoin).

If only a few delegates were elected with 100% pay, and the rest are elected with 3% pay, then inflation will be very very small?

Delegates can receive up to 50 new BTS per block *if* their pay rate is 100% and voters approved of them.

I almost have my delegate set up. I registered delegate.methodx about a month ago and set the "pay" to 10%. If I want 100% pay to put toward advertising, can the % be increased? Will the new rules set everyone at 50 BTS per block? Should I register a completely new delegate account and start from 100%?
After the hard fork, register a delegate with 100%.   Until then don't bother registering a delegate because the pay will be set to 3%... you cannot increase the pay rate of a delegate after registration.
Just to clarify:  Each delegate with a 100% pay rate would receive 50 BTS for each block that they created, correct?  Meaning that once every 101 blocks, when their turn came around, they would get paid 50 BTS?

(Not that they would get 50 BTS for each block that *any* delegate created.  Correct?)

How does delegate system allow funding development/marketing?

Voters can elect paid delegates who will receive bitshares each block, and can then use them to fund development, fund marketing campaigns, etc.

This was one of the main new things in the changes to Bitshares.

Delegate system is a win for long term valuation.. right now some ppl panic sold BTC to get back into fiat mostly USD... and thus price is falling on every coin.. however I believe a bottom is now in and currently being formed so it may be a good idea to start building long positions in an aggressive manor... the people who panic sold will be back and buy higher.. especially after nov 5th... everything seems to line up for another ATH if all goes to plan.

I agree, bitcoin was taking down every altcoin with it, and we were getting doubly hit by that as well as the uncertainty surrounding bitshares lately.

Bitcoin just started to rally in the past hour, and BTSX is recovering as well.  Hopefully the worst of this is now behind us and we will start to rise now.

I have no intentions of selling any of my BTSX . Yesterday I made some BTSX by buying some bitUSD and selling them today for BTSX . Thought of doing it today again, but bitmeat is not saying much  :)

I've made some shares trading as well.

The problem is, I keep ending up with a bit more shares, but all of them are worth way less than they were before.

Next step:  get someone to buy $2M more bitUSD so we are ahead of Nubits. :D

Clearly I am a bad trader because I thought that we had hit the bottom on Oct 19, and I bought a lot more during the rally after that, and again when we went under 6000 sat yesterday, only to have increased my losses.
