Thanks to your support, the Chronos Worker Proposal has brought us a walkthrough for creating and securing a new Bitshares account. This video covers how to create an account at https://bitshares.org/wallet, and properly secure its backup file. Feel free to share this video, as you see fit, with new users of the platform.

Stakeholder Proposals / [Worker Proposal] Chronos Crypto Videos #2
« on: September 08, 2016, 06:53:01 pm »
We need your support! Cast your vote to produce Chronos Crypto Videos!

First, let me introduce myself. I've been around Bitshares since late 2014, back when workers and witnesses were combined as "delegates", and we ran v0.9 as a desktop client. Then in the summer of 2015, I contracted directly for Cryptonomex for a couple months, doing UI work for the light wallet. I've always been fascinated by the tech behind Bitshares.

For several years, I have run a Youtube channel under the brand Chronos Crypto, which consists primarily of news, lectures, walkthroughs, and product reviews. Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/c/ChronosCrypto.

The channel just completed it first worker term, which produced the following videos:
  • Intro to Bitshares, where we take a brief overview of some of the key features that make Bitshares stand out from other blockchain technologies.
  • Buying Bitshares the Easy Way, where we quickly demonstrate one of the easiest way to buy Bitshares: using a bridge inside the online wallet.
  • Bitshares Inflation Rate, where we take an in-depth look at the inflation rate, or change in the supply, of the core Bitshares token.

Below are a few ideas for future videos:

# Tech Lectures (Example video: Xtreme Thinblocks)
   - DPOS for Dummies (witness roles; the advantage over PoW)
   - Hired by the Blockchain (worker roles)
   - Power to the People (committee roles)
   - Decentralized Consensus (proxy voting)
   - What is a SmartCoin? (shorts and margin calls)
   - Peg All the Things (price feeds and forced settlement)
   - Refer a Friend (referral/registrar system)
   - Custom Account Permissions (Threshold accounts, weight-based accounts, and multi-sig accounts)
# Walkthroughs (Example video: Getting Started with Electrum)
   - Creating an account on OpenLedger
   - Trading on the DEX
   - Securing your wallet with cold storage
   - Creating and managing your own assets
   - Setting up a witness node
   - Buying a lifetime account for marketing referrals
# News & Announcements (Example video: Bitcoin Classic)
   - New features (stealth transactions, subsidizing market liquidity, trollbox in the DEX, etc.)
   - Announcements (new worker or witness proposal to consider)
   - Trending discussions

I propose to renew this worker role to produce valuable Bitshares videos under the Chronos Crypto brand. The YouTube channel has over 600 subscribers, and is well-known in the bitcoin community, so this content will be dual-purpose: to bring new users to the platform, and to help make Bitshares more comprehensible for all of us.

If elected, I will produce a minimum of 3 Bitshares-related videos per month, and publish them on the YouTube channel. In exchange, the worker role will be 500,000 BTS per month, which is the same rate as the prior worker term.

Here's a quick walkthrough video on how to show your support. Vote now.

(Note: I accidentally created a duplicate worker proposal for zero pay. Just be glad I burned $16 of BTS to create the duplicate, as you vote for the correct one.  :) )

Thank you!

General Discussion / [Video] Bitshares Inflation Rate
« on: September 07, 2016, 04:41:24 am »
The Chronos Crypto Videos worker has just completed the final video of its first term.

You might enjoy this new video on the Bitshares Inflation Rate, where we take an in-depth look at the change in the supply of the core Bitshares token. You may wish to post questions in the form of comments directly on the YouTube video, so that future viewers can see them.

Enjoy!

Have you always wished you could have a physical bitcoin, but never could quite pull the trigger and place an order? This is your chance to make that dream come true.

We are giving away, absolutely free, a Denarium gold-plated coin to a lucky Chronos Crypto YouTube subscriber. This is a beautiful 1/10th BTC brass alloy coin from Denarium, and although it doesn't come with the bitcoin loaded on it, it's very easy to load. The tamper-evident hologram is already in place from the manufacturer. Click here for a video with more info.

If you are already a subscriber, you'll still need to enter the drawing in order to qualify.

Good luck!

General Discussion / [Video] Buying Bitshares the Easy Way
« on: July 25, 2016, 05:39:38 am »
The Chronos Worker Proposal has gathered enough activity to bring forward the next Chronos Crypto video. This quick walkthrough covers how to buy BTS using a bridge such as BlockTrades inside the light wallet. I expect it to help bring new investors onto the platform.

By the way, we recently received a YouTube comment on the Intro to Bitshares video, "All those inflationary coins are doomed." I believe we would really benefit from a video on the Bitshares inflation rate, and why BTS fee burning with witness and worker pay with is more sustainable than the systems that many competing coins use. Cast your vote for the Chronos worker proposal to keep the videos coming! (At the time of this writing, we're only 100k BTS short of receiving worker pay. Every vote counts!)

Thank you!

EDIT: Thanks to your support, the inflation rate video is now available! https://youtu.be/ohx46JlRzjc

General Discussion / Video preview: Buying Bitshares the Easy Way
« on: June 11, 2016, 06:52:00 pm »
Hi all,

I'm posting this to open up feedback on an upcoming video: Buying Bitshares the Easy Way.  This preview video is marked as private, just for you BTS forum members, to give you a chance to provide feedback on the script. You can expect the final version to go to production later this month.

One other note: I'll mention that you already need to have your wallet created to follow these steps. I'll cover the actual creation of the wallet (and securing it) in a separate video.

Thanks!

General Discussion / [Video] Intro to Bitshares
« on: June 05, 2016, 03:14:02 am »
Thanks to the successful funding of the Chronos Crypto Videos worker proposal, we have now released our first video! Feel free to share as you see fit. This could be useful to a few wider subreddits like /r/cryptocurrency, but I'd rather not push my own material.  :)

Open to any feedback, questions, criticisms, suggestions, etc. Enjoy!

Technical Support / Cryptofresh worker "Current Balance" bug
« on: June 03, 2016, 04:15:34 am »
Hi @roadscape,

I'm sure this is really minor, but I just wanted to point it out. My worker has been in effect for more than 24 hours, but Cryptofresh shows the wrong amount of Current Balance, 15,277. Shouldn't it be more than Daily Pay (16,666 BTS)?

My wallet shows a vesting amount of 35,415.24966 BTS currently, which is probably the correct Current Balance. It does have a 30-day vesting period, so maybe that's throwing it off.

Or maybe I don't understand what Current Balance means. By the way, would you like to explain the green bits in the bars, while you're at it?  :)

Technical Support / Bitshares and OpenLedger
« on: June 01, 2016, 05:40:31 pm »
When BTS 2.0 rolled out, I expected Cryptonomex to operate the main faucet for registration fees. Instead, this was handed to a company called OpenLedger. Today, this is still true: http://bitshares.org has a "Try Online Wallet" on the front page that links to an OpenLedger URL. Even the official Bitshares web wallet at http://bitshares.org/wallet still has OpenLedger receiving the registrar credit on new accounts.

I was under the impression that OpenLedger was a separate company, affiliated with CCEDK. Is this correct? What is the official relationship between Bitshares and OpenLedger? Why doesn't the faucet come from the committee account, so that registrar bonuses are returned to the network?

General Discussion / Chronos Crypto Videos - Voting Update
« on: May 29, 2016, 03:23:31 pm »
Just wanted to give you guys an update on the voting for our latest worker proposal, Chronos Crypto Videos. At the time of this writing, we currently have support from the following major shareholders and proxies: Xeroc, Bitcrab, Blocktrades, JonnyBitcoin, KenCode, and BitsharesBlocks (plus another 6.3M BTS worth of votes from many, many other accounts, not shown). I'd like to extend a big thank you to all of you who have cast votes in favor!

The full CryptoFresh Voting Report is below:

Work is set to begin on Wednesday, June 1, but we need a few more votes to make that happen. We're over 90% of the way there!

Many of these community members haven't yet weighed in with their thoughts, notably @bytemaster and @jakub. If you would like to see instructional videos produced for the Bitshares network, and you have contact with some of the accounts in the screenshot above, please consider letting them know about your support.

Here's a short video demonstrating the style and quality of video you can expect, with a walkthrough on how to cast your vote.

Thank you!

Stakeholder Proposals / [Committee Proposal] chronos-youtube

Then in the summer of 2015, I contracted directly for Cryptonomex for a couple months, doing UI work for the light wallet. I've always been fascinated by the tech behind Bitshares.

As a corollary to my work to produce Bitshares videos, I would be interested to take a volunteer position with the Bitshares committee.

As a committee member, my priorities are as follows:

  • Offer low transaction fees to attract consumers, merchants, and traders to the platform
  • Improve liquidity in the DEX, focusing on the BTS trading pairs against BitUSD, BitCNY, and BitBTC
  • Keep Lifetime Membership relevant by having certain network actions require it
  • Maintain network security by keeping witness pay at or above the cost of running a robust full node
  • Enact popular protocol changes that are shown to have super-majority support through worker role voting

Please cast your vote for chronos-youtube for committee member!

Btsnow is receiving BTS now. And a bunch of other workers. As a community, we need to be a bit more purposeful in this area. Random fluctuations should not be the driving factor. Time to bring your votes out!

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I'm officially on the campaign trail for a new worker proposal. The videos will be posted to the Chronos Crypto YouTube Channel, where they will be received by well over 400 subscribers.

Here's the official worker proposal thread. I've put together a short video to introduce myself, and to explain how you can cast your vote. Watch it now.

Thank you for your support!

Stakeholder Proposals / [Witness Proposal] chronos-youtube

As a corollary to my work to produce Bitshares videos, I would like to run a witness node to get hands-on experience with the fundamentals of Bitshares tech. I have invested in a dedicated virtual machine running Ubuntu in a reputable cloud environment, and it is synced with the network and ready to go.

Please vote for the chronos-youtube witness node!
