Hey guys,

I recently published a video on Xtreme Thinblocks, an on-chain scaling tech for bitcoin. Thought you might enjoy.

Technical Support / BTS supply growth -- worker voting
« on: October 22, 2015, 09:16:54 pm »
It looks like the web wallet doesn't yet have a page for viewing worker role payments (unless I overlooked it). This is an important metric, since it directly correlates with growth in the BTS supply.

What workers are voted in already? What's the best way to vote for/against existing and new workers? Is there a summary page anywhere?

Thanks!

Technical Support / Privacy warning
« on: October 15, 2015, 10:24:51 pm »
In case you didn't know, privacy is currently OFF by default in Graphene. If someone knows your account name, they can see all your balances and activity, unless you are using Confidential Transactions (not yet available in the GUI).

Simply hit Explorer, then Accounts, and you get this page: https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/explorer/accounts. Then you can search anyone's account by name. For example, here's Fav's account, one of our favorite forum regulars: https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/account/fav

If you value your privacy, act accordingly, perhaps by using an account name that isn't easily associated with your identity.

Have fun!

General Discussion / [video] How to read historic price charts
« on: July 11, 2015, 05:07:35 am »
Hi guys,

I recently put together a video covering one of my biggest peeves: linear scale charts. Thought a few traders here might find this useful.

How to Read Historic Bitcoin Prices

Enjoy!

Hi everyone,

I broadcast speed chess on Twitch, and tomorrow I'm integrating ChangeTip into the stream to sponsor micro-contests with live viewers. Tomorrow (Thursday, April 30) at 6pm GMT, for Episode 132, we'll be giving away bitcoin prizes to the quickest solvers of some chess puzzles. If it goes over well, I hope to integrate a lot more bitcoin (and other crypto?) tipping in future episodes.

Live stream: http://twitch.tv/chesswhiz
YouTube archive: https://www.youtube.com/user/chesswhiztv
Team forums: http://lichess.org/team/chesswhiz-tv

Would love to see you there -- show your support of bitcoin!  8)

General Discussion / Walkthrough videos you would you like to see
« on: March 31, 2015, 11:12:27 pm »
Based on the feedback from the Delegate idea: Chronos Crypto Videos thread, we know that walkthrough videos are critical to bringing mainstream users to the Bitshares ecosystem. Having the ability to watch someone else take the plunge with the wallet software will significant reduce the "fear factor" for new users.

Although we have a smattering of walkthroughs around the web, there is not yet a "one-stop shop" for videos covering each major piece of functionality in the ecosystem. I hope to put forward a delegate proposal to change that.

See the poll above. What area do you think should be the first focus?

Thanks for your feedback!

Stakeholder Proposals / Delegate idea: Chronos Crypto Videos
« on: March 29, 2015, 11:25:58 pm »
Hi,

I operate a growing cryptocurrency-oriented Youtube channel, Chronos Crypto, which currently consists primarily of lectures, walkthroughs, and product reviews. Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/user/ChronosCrypto.

As I've learned more about Bitshares, it has come to my attention that the community would benefit from a variety of videos to help new users get acquainted with the system.

Here are a few ideas for videos:

# Tech Lectures (Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2jx1TlkMBs)
   - How TITAN provides privacy
   - How DPOS differs from POW and POS
   - How User Issued Assets work
   - How the internal exchange works
# Walkthroughs (Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOhSFb7QFFo)
   - How to create secure cold storage (this was just asked! See https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=15137.0)
   - How to use the on-chain exchange
   - How to set up a new wallet
   - How to set up a delegate node
   - How to create and manage UIAs
   - How to buy BTS and BitAssets
   - etc.
# News & Announcements (Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdtdS1uibJA)
   - New releases (v0.8 update required)
   - Trending discussions (the recent MLM discussion in the forums)
   - Announcements (new delegate proposal to consider)

I'd like to get some feedback and gauge interest in this thread. Would you be interested in supporting a Chronos Crypto video-production delegate?

Thanks!

General Discussion / Is "Market Rules Summary" correct?
« on: March 27, 2015, 10:17:13 pm »
Under "Exchange" in the client, I see a "Help" button in the upper right. It pops out this information:

Quote
Short orders can only get filled under these conditions:

1. There is someone willing to buy BitUSD at the price feed
2. AND Your short order is the highest interest rate order
3. AND Your price limit is lower than the feed (BTS per USD) or you didn't specify a price limit
4. AND You have enough collateral to provide 2x backing at the trade price and quantity
5. OR Your price limit is higher than the feed (BTS per USD) and someone is willing to buy at your price limit

Short orders are forced to cover after 30 days by taking the best offers at the time. No fee is charged.

Short orders are forced to cover when 75% of their collateral is required to cover, leaving the short with 25% of the collateral minus a 5% fee.

The 5% fee is assessed as a percent of the collateral left over after covering.
I can barely parse the AND and OR clauses, and I consider myself to be fairly logically-minded!  :P Anyway, is this information still correct? I was under the impression that it was not possible to short at a price below the feed, but point (3) seems to state that it is possible.

Thanks!

Stakeholder Proposals / Is Bitsapphire still a recommended delegate?
« on: March 27, 2015, 03:06:40 pm »
I see at the top of the forums: "Vote for Bitsapphire and Support the Bitsharestalk forum."

However, I don't see any active associated delegate for Bitsapphire in the top 101 at https://bitsharesblocks.com/delegates. Did the plans change when they switched to a different fundraising strategy? Is this notice out-of-date?

General Discussion / Current State of Light Wallet(s)
« on: March 25, 2015, 09:26:13 pm »
Struggling with the blockchain download (and associated crashes) is no fun at all. This makes me wonder: is there a stable light wallet ready for public consumption?

I'm also curious to hear of any other light wallets under construction.

Thanks!

Technical Support / Any active gateways?
« on: February 13, 2015, 06:10:42 am »
The Bitshares website under "Gateways" is information only. See https://bitshares.org/resources/gateways. Are there any active gateways on the network? Any gateways under development?

General Discussion / Price feed manipulation attack
« on: February 12, 2015, 05:37:59 pm »
Is there a possibility of an attack wherein 51% of delegates decide to misreport a price feed much much too low, triggering a black swan for their own benefit? For example, by buying BitUSD before the attack, and liquidating during the event, for an outsized amount of BTS? What kind of profit could be made by delegates acting in this way (3x their investment, perhaps)?

If a majority can collude in a highly profitable way, it is naive to expect that they never will, simply because such an action would require a majority.

Technical Support / Account already registered: old account retrievable?
« on: February 05, 2015, 09:51:36 pm »
Here's what I did:

1) Installed Bitshares
2) Register account on blockchain
3) Wait for blocks to sync
4) Sync crashed over and over, finally it hung (bug: if Ubuntu's lock screen kicks in, the sync hangs)
5) Deleted ~/.Bitshares folder
6) Resynced blockchain. This time it worked
7) Error: Account name already registered.

Is there any way to retrieve my account from step 2, even though I deleted the folder in step 5? I have the password I used.

General Discussion / Blockchain size projections
« on: February 02, 2015, 11:46:03 pm »
We all know Bitcoin blockchain continues to grow. Quickly approaching 30GB already. How does the BTS chain compare, in terms of longer-term extrapolations of current trends? I'm particularly interested in how the 10-second block timing and the on-chain exchange contribute to the total size.
