General Discussion / Re: What to do when BitShares client crashes?
« on: February 23, 2015, 04:52:52 pm »
crash reports are sent to the bitshares devs .. so please send them over .. (no need to be afraid of losing funds via report .. no private keys are sent)

"so please send them over" - just to be clear, is that via the [Send to Apple] procedure - will that suffice? or is creating / adding to a Github issue preferred?  Thanks for the info!

General Discussion / What to do when BitShares client crashes?
« on: February 23, 2015, 05:31:54 am »
Curious - what should I be doing when the application crashes - is there any way to help by offering my info?
Having worked on mobile apps for Android, the crash reports there are most helpful for development - I'm wondering if the [Send to Apple] option on the UI after BitShares crashes is useful or not, or should I be posting that info somewhere else, if it's worthwhile to do so?  (Obv. I'm running on OSX)

If anything, we'd likely add sha256 support first...

Any update on this?  I have some SHA hashes to send this way when the day comes.  Love the pool!

So it's not just the chain folder I'll need to keep a snapshot of?  Your example is the entire BitShares folder (minus the wallet folder, i guess?)  I have over 6G in the logs folder - methinks someone's a chatty Kathy on the log.

Running the 0.6.1 client on OSX here.  Due to crashes, I've had to rebuild the database a few times this week, which takes many hours to do, sometimes it takes > 12 hrs.   :(

So I'm wondering if it's possible to save a known working copy of the blockchain db to use in case my local copy gets corrupted and the client once again attempts to download it all, from block 0 (or whatever.)  Something like a checkpoint, so that I can resume downloading the blockchain from block ~1,835,000 (or where ever it was saved at).

i.e. Could I make a copy of the ~/Library/Application Support/BitShares/chain folder, and then re-use that the next time I'm asked to rebuild the DB, so I don't have to start from the beginning again?

General Discussion / Re: Operation DarkNet

Here's the problem:

I don't see how your given ricin example applies to the topic at hand.  We cannot control what people do with the tools they are given, or have access to. Apples/Oranges.

I infer the stated intention of #OperationDarkNet and enabling an escrow service seems noble and made with honest foresight, to offer a win/win solution to an existing issue.  You submitting a Breaking Bad coffee sweetener story - seems like asking what's the price of beans in China, i.e. it seems non-sequitur and unrelated.

General Discussion / Re: 0.6.1 on Mac not syncing
« on: February 18, 2015, 01:25:45 am »
I've had issues syncing with 0.6.1, but most have been solved with Force Quit, and restarting.  Worst case is just remove/rename the /Library/Application Support/BitShares/peers.leveldb folder, and restart client.

Other UX issues and fixes I've had on osx & 0.6.1:
  • Sometimes the normal login password entry doesn't work, and I'm forced to go to the menu -> Accounts -> Goto my Accounts and enter pw there, then I'll get client access.
  • Sometimes the client is blank, try a right click and refresh, this often works.
  • Sometimes the exchange UI won't load, clicking the Flip Market icon (small 2 arrows icon just to the right of the asset name) will often load the market's UI, then just click flip again to return to normal view.

How do you source your bitUSD?

Currently from Bter.com ... https://bter.com/trade/BTC_BITUSD

So, the Bter "hack" - how is this affecting the minebitshares pool?

Is the exchange working?  I'm not seeing any value / amounts?

Also, why can't anybody beyond just delegates build a slate, and gain the trust of the community through a transparent well-rationalised selection process, and encourage people to vote for their slate? This may create a bit more independence.

Technical Support / Where did the console UI go in 0.6.1?
« on: February 11, 2015, 04:45:25 pm »
I really loved having easy access to the console, via the "Console >" UI in v 0.5.x - How does one access the console from the GUI client in 0.6.1?  I cannot find anyway to do so.  (running 0.6.1 in OSX)

Many thanks for the offer, best wishes!

I think it should pay out in only BitUSD because miners want set it and forget-it.

I will match 5% of any mining proceeds and will support you for a 100% delegate

Lets keep it very SIMPLE.  Just modify the payout to BitUSD and then I will plus it up.

Very cool indeed.  Watching this thread for news.  I'm looking forward to pointing my temperamental Titan at this pool - thanks for the generous offer!
