One of the more exciting developments I've seen for BitShares.

Use of SmartCoins is probably the single most way to drive up the price of BTS due to collateral requirements.

Let's encourage other exchanges to adopt and Volume Tracking sites to list this activity!

Nice! What are your competitive advantages against the other BTS exchanges? OL, BCO, and that Russian one...

Any luck on Daily USD Volume Charts? That would be a nice add for your report, wouldn't be hard to track, and doesn't exist anywhere (not sure why explorers for BTS haven't bothered with such a chart.)

34
Did this get "fixed"?

35
Nice work. I would personally like to see a chart on your new Explorer that shows Dex BitUSD - equivalent volume on a scalable basis (and filterable for Smartcoins vs UIA, for example, or by single asset pairing)

36
FIAT, stock, index fund, and other commodity derivates are a different story though. Bitshares' killer feature is these types of SmartCoins...

While I disagree BitBTC is of no value as you state, I do agree on this point.

Nobody gives a flying f*ck about BitGold or BitSilver until BTS and liquidity gets sufficient for multi-million dollar bets on these assets, but why not create ETF SmartCoins representing "real world" markets? Especially those 3x leverage funds. That would make actually worth buying for Gold/Silver as it represents more risk/volatility/upside, which would in turn help kickstart SmartCoin liquidity and volume.

Examples:

NUGT: Daily Gold Bull 3x
LABD: Daily S&P Biotech Bear 3x
SPXS: Dailyu S&P 500 Bear 3x
This would be a MASSIVE winner, probably overnight.

Can anyone help me propose create new smartcoins like these, and get the Committee to take them over (not sure how this works)? I can get the voting weight, I'm sure. Just need technical / witness help...

Did you ever get anywhere with more feed (customize where it feeds from) options and P&L options? As well as price protections (min, max, etc.)

38
I don't get how you came to the 33 630 and 16 8315 BitUSD figures.

Also the totals in the table don't really add up.

Can we have a link or downloadable version of this table so we can understand what is going on there?

39
Why not just increase Settlement delay? Should solve the issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how we could fix this issue?

I will never stop repeating: fix margin trading flaws first. Debt should be created ONLY when bitAsset leaves the issuing account. bitUSD sell order is not your debt and should not be counted in total bitUSD supply until this order is filled. We should not need to deposit 2x collateral upfront to issue bitAsset. If you have 1000 USD worth of BTS, you should be able to go ahead and put 1000 bitUSD sell order for BTS, and when this order is (partially) filled, BTS should be automatically added to collateral. We should not need to add funds on top of 2x collateral to close the position, because this is ridiculous.  And there is really no need to keep a separate collateral pool for each bitAsset, because all you care about is that your total debt is properly backed. In case the value of collateral falls, the most liquid bitAssets should be margin called first.
+5%  Combined with BSIP-18 would be perfect.

This is actually a very good suggestion to address this issue. I don't think there is a "true" fix, we just need to encourage a lot more liquidity on SmartCoins.

I think the best fix for this, in addition to the above, is for someone to jump on the business opportunity to allow people to buy smartcoins without having to buy BTS first, and taking a fee (USD Wire to SmartCoins gateway).

May I also entice the readers to my thread encouraging use of SmartCoins for Altcoins instead of UIAs here for more evening reading:

Can you please ask them to open a BitBTC market?

We need to get BitBTC going, to encourage starting other SmartCoins for large Alts (LTC, ETH)

Poloniex has an example of how the Bitshares trade history SHOULD be. Any reason why it isn't like Poloniex? /sigh

I was told this was "in the works" many months ago.

It's a HUGE drawback for BTS currently. No wonder the price tanked...

Someone please create a worker for this!

This is one of the major shortcomings of BTS / DEX right now :( Wonder if it is being addressed in the GUI improvements going on.  :o

I’m all ears to support an MPA or SmartCoin that doesn’t require an active witness for price feeds, just contact me, and I would be happy to talk about it.

I'm present on the BitShares Witness Telegram channel, as well as here and Steemit.

Howdy!

Check out my thread on https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,25083.msg311587.html#msg311587

I'm pushing for creation of BitETH and BitZEC as new smartcoins. I'd like them to be eventually adopted by "official" witnesses, but not sure of the mechanism for that. What are your thoughts?

In the current pre-bsip-0018 state of the network, crypto based smartcoins (MPAs) are vulnerable to global settlement ('black swan') events, once the BTS network has hard-forked to include bsip-0018 at the end of november, such assets will be more plausible for the long term.

That said, there's more interesting MPAs out there especially in the Algorithm Based Asset category of MPAs, IMO.

Keep it real,
CM.

Good comment. I have heard about pending Black Swan improvements but don't know the details.

What more interesting MPAs are you speaking about (in the meantime, at least - as I think alt/smartcoins or a better alternative to UIAs and counterparty risk are totally crucial to Bitshares...)

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares as a platform for ICOs?
« on: October 19, 2017, 08:47:34 pm »
I thought the primary vision for BTS in the early days was as a way of having "DACs" - the Dex was just one "DAC" - did this whole ship fall by the wayside (as the whole ICO craze probably should've from the start)?

Seems like folks think of BTS now as a "DEX" first, foremost, and usually ONLY. What changed?
